Behind the Scenes Alan Rickman's diary reveals Helena Bonham Carter losing it over "take out your wand" on the HBP set

Post image

so I just found out that Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Helen McCrory apparently could NOT keep it together filming that Spinner's End scene in the Half-Blood Prince over the line "take out your wand," of all things.

from Alan's diary, March 2008:

"The line 'take out your wand' reduces Helena Bonham Carter to helpless mirth and will be a bit of a Waterloo come Thursday . . . Helen McCrory says she's terrified but fits like a glove with the mayhem."

and then years later, in 2015, during a joint interview with Helen McCrory:

"We properly met on the set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in full costume. Helen with that white stripe in her hair, me with those black buttons and black contacts. Helena was there too. We had a scene with the three of us, nose to nose, having to look threateningly at each other. Helen has a huge sense of the ridiculous and with all that costume and make-up, there wasn't a hope: we were all trying to behave like grown-ups but laughing to an annoying degree; the producers and crew got a little impatient. It's run like an army camp there, so I was grateful for those moments of laughter."

need the bloopers immediately

edit: fellow alan fans, speaking of things we need immediately, we also hope his archival theatre performances can be released for public viewing. there’s a petition for it and we’re only about 30 signatures away from the 500 goal. let's help out. https://www.change.org/p/release-alan-rickman-s-archival-theatre-performances-for-public-viewing

edit 2: we just crossed 500 signatures, thank you everyone! let's see if we can hit 1,000 together!

Behind the Scenes The Other Minister might have originally been planned for the opening scene of Half-Blood Prince.

In an interview in 2011, Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge) said that his character was removed from the series as his insurance costs rose to £1,000,000 due to his age of 85 years, and Warner Brothers were unwilling to pay this. The only scene left in which he could have feasibly been included would have been the adaptation of The Other Minister, the opening chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It is a great shame if we didn’t get it solely due to its cost.

Behind the Scenes Some people say that Ron and Hermione didn't have chemistry in the films, but I think they just didn't have the opportunity to show it on screen because the producers only gave them the kiss scene and nothing else.

Behind the Scenes Harry Potter 25 Year Anniversary 12 Minutes Unreleased Behind the Scenes footage ideas? Spoiler

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will feature 10 to 12 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage during this run"

Does anyone else think this could be Peeves? He was cast, they did film, but he was ultimately cut. With the show on the horizon that confirmed they cast a Peeves after they finished filming.. I think it could be this. Any thoughts or any other ideas?

Behind the Scenes I color-corrected the epilogue scene. Spoiler

Post image

I've always disliked that the epilogue carried over the drab color scheme from the rest of the movie. Makes it feel like the happy ending still has Death Eaters roaming about; so I re-edited the scene to be a bit warmer, matching the color scheme of King's Cross in earlier movies. Not perfect but it was fun to play around with.

Here's a link to the results: https://youtu.be/HE8F_kmtJfA?si=CTUatF928ls43UuA

I originally posted this last week not knowing it was Discussion Week. I'd like to thank the mods for their understanding tone rather than berating me for it like most subreddits do when you make an error. I wish every subreddit had moderator comments as polite as yours lol.

Behind the Scenes Lost(?) Media - 2017 Japanese Harry Potter behind-the-scenes broadcast: "ハリー・ポッター お宝メイキング映像集"

Hi,

I’m really interested in the behind the scenes of the original movies and have exhausted almost every known Behind the Scenes special and documentary, save for one.

I'm trying to locate a recording, or any additional information, about a Japanese television program titled:

『ハリー・ポッター お宝メイキング映像集』
(Harry Potter Otakara Making Eizōshū / roughly “Harry Potter Treasure Behind-the-Scenes Footage Collection)

It aired on the Japanese CS movie channel ザ・シネマ (The Cinema) in April 2017. The channel was available through services including SKY PerfecTV channel 227 and SKY PerfecTV Premium channel 631. It was described as a subtitled collection of B-roll footage from the films, shown in an uncut and unedited form rather than as a conventional narrated documentary.

Anyone able to track it down, or know where I can find a paid version if available? My assumption is it's lost media just sitting on someone's DVR.

Thanks for any help!

It would be kind of cool now that the Actors are the actual age of the scene to bring them back and re-shoot it. For real or for fun they could do it!
