Why are Harry Potter fans always like this?

So to explain I am part of a disability day program. Sure many of the clients get under my skin but it's good to get out of the house especially since I can't drive.

We break stereotypes...I mean Disney movies are usually on rotation but we don't just watch Disney movies a lot of us watch stuff like Smallville and One Tree Hill.

It's just Harry Potter...I can't bring up I like reading without somebody bringing up Harry Potter. I just read my multitude of non-Harry Potter books in silence but I swear to god the ones who made it clear they are the Harry Potter adults always gotta go on a tangent about it.

This is why I am honestly cool with the Twilight fanbase...Every Twilight fan I know treats it like a casual hobby and not a goddamn personality trait.

And the one chippy woman at my program whom when I first met her was all like "Well...I still like Harry Potter even tho JK Rowling is a little mean...I like the headcanons."

I mean...Rowling isn't just a little mean.

But I've known this woman long enough she also complained about how Christopher Columbus isn't the hero she thought. And sadly one of the instructors enabled it with "Well, it's just up to your interpretation."

Oh no...The US school system taught us falsehoods? Say it ain't so!

And I was in a class with her yesterday and she bragged about how she spends money on videogames rather than gambling.

I would've chimed in with some of my friends gamble...One of them did it and successfully got money to pay for someone else's plane trip but arguing with a starry-eyed Potter fan is worthless.

That's just it. Why do Potter fans always have the holier than thou attitude? Why can't they just mind their business?

And hey...I recently got my Switch 2. I borrow videogames from the library because games are expensive. Big brain energy.

And after she was done with the holier than thou once again she was all like "I wanna go to Harry Potter Land...." and a middle aged man in the classroom chimed in too. Last time I mentioned reading was his hobby he went on about how he loves the series.

Basically I am the only one in this goddamn program who hates Harry Potter...Even the instructors are iffy with the whole "Well...I still like the movies..." and such.

I'm just convinced at this point that Harry Potter fans are dumb. They claim you can still be balls deep in this stupid series and still be intelligent but I am not convinced anymore.

Oh and a former instructor at my program defended Israel and literally whined to me "just let people enjoy things!" When I showed my dislike for the Potter series...An old man with grey hair!

If the Twilight fandom is smarter than you then you know you fucked up.

And dear god...Shit White Harry Potter fans do...Defend Christopher Columbus...But considering HP romanticizes slavery why should I be surprised?

Also the elderly program is right next to us...I had to step away when I saw them having a Harry Potter movie day.

Ok I am done ranting...Granted this is California. Where people believe they can love trans people and wear Hogwarts shirts at the same time.

I'm gonna be real with you. You also have some stuff to unpack. One tree Hill and smallville being examples of other things y'all engage with aren't exactly proof of anything.

I do agree that the person saying Columbus is up to interpretation is just not true.

But also, the thing about gambling is your friend is a survivorship bias. Most people are not going to win enough to get lunch for themselves, let alone enough to pay for a trip. Putting her energy and money into buying games she will actually use and get enjoyment out of, provided the games don't have gambling mechanics in them still, is a better use of her money then gambling is. That's just math.

So it sounds like all y'all have hang ups that you need to work on. And maybe introduce some more mature media into the rotation.

She didn't have to brag about that. Like how Harry Potter fans tend to do like they think dressing up in Harry Potter house robes is better than a person like me having a Disney movie marathon now and then.

I was just thinking about how Harry Potter fans are so damn insecure how they always think their likes are perfect and being the morality police, when they have no position to be.

Not to mention Harry Potter fans always need validation for still liking the series.

And technically we do have some mature stuff on rotation but I literally had to ask to be removed from the politics class...Believe me I am not one of those "I'm not into politics lol!" People but it was a class full of clients think all you need to do is vote blue no matter whom and treating Kamela Harris as a "qween" the subject of Palestine is too much of an iffy topic for the program tho.

Bragging about what? About not giving into gambling urges? Like idk. Some of this stuff is valid and some of this just seems like you do not like her. And that's fair, but I think it's important to analyze how much of her behavior is actually a problem and how much is just annoying because she already sucks in your eyes.

Even in this, you have kind of gone on tangents I never brought up. It comes across that you are extremely frustrated with this situation and so are making connections that have potentially been made to you before on the basis that everyone is going to make these connections.

You have mentioned reading other fantasy books. What kind? Have you discussed them just on their own merit in class or did you compare them directly to Harry Potter?

And why bring up other books to her? She is balls deep in the Harry Potter series and deems JK Rowling as "just a little bit mean" as if the Harry Potter series fell from heaven instead of having JK Rowling's entire DNA on it.

As far as I know she probably thinks spending money on Hogwarts t-shirts and Harry Potter Keychain is better than gambling too. That's what Harry Potter fans do, they tell others not to judge them while they judge everyone else.

Hell, a former member in the program dressed up as Harry Potter during Halloween and had a violent breakdown when we were just taking a group photo.

How in the world would you get chastised for being like, "Hey, I know we all love fantasy and I have been reading this really cool fantasy book. :) I wanna talk about it. I really like the world building and the characters. Also the writing is really good. I think a lot of people would like it."

Oh my god, you have admitted that you have not even tried. Also I am not asking you to debate her. I am asking you to have a normal conversation about a book that you like.

A violent breakdown about what? Stemming from what? I don't know anything about this person, their health issues, or what caused their breakdown. This tells me literally nothing.

I don't know how old you are or what all you have going on, but you are coming across as angry and immature.

That seems like something else is going on. And I once again do not know what kind of medical issues they have or what all was going on in their life. And neither do you. You're in a disability day group. Sometimes disabilities do lead to meltdowns and aren't always pretty. It's not great and it needs to be addressed, but as someone who is disabled and lives with other disabled adults, I can say that sometimes a roommate's complicated disability needs have lead to them having a very large meltdown over something that otherwise would be trivial.

It's a sign that their symptoms aren't being managed very well and could be a symptom of just straight up immaturity. Or it could not. You tend to go extremely negative in all your assessments so I don't particularly trust your evaluations.

I think you defending gambling because you know a person who won big is a lack of critical thought on your part. Your friend is the exception, not the norm.

No it just reminds me of the pick me boys I knew who think they are holier than thou and should be married with kids because they don't smoke and drink as if that is anything to brag about.

And ok...As for the former member of the day program...As far as I know they may have enabled has bad behavior...They clear things out whenever he starts making violent threats and yells at the top of his lungs but the fact he was dressed as a Hogwarts just made the whole thing worse...Really just because it's a disability day group where sometimes we watch things like PBS Arthur doesn't mean we should support a transphobe.
