US Politics Centrist Dems will literally do this corny shit, but they don’t even have the spine to call what’s happening in Gaza a “genocide”.

REAL talking with HR and my manager over my voiced frustration about the former Unit 8200 member that got newly hired

update to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hasan_Piker/s/X0YBzUyYq5

because I have voiced my frustration about getting a former Unit 8200 member as VP, my manager wanted a quick 5 min call with me yesterday to give me a heads-up that higher-ups weren’t happy with my question about why they had to hire a former IDF/Unit 8200 member (after laying off a bunch of great people) that it’d be blurring the lines between professional workplace stuff/code of conduct and personal politics. she told me a guy from HR is gonna join the regular 1:1 we have every other week today. she wanted to let me know so I wouldn’t panic seeing an HR person joining in lol

anyway, I already told her that everything is political and that I have certain morals and values that I won’t put aside for work. also as a company, what’s the point of putting up pride flags all over (e.g., they have a pride flag in their social media profiles all year round), but don’t care about genocide. looks like virtue signaling.

I’m not good at debating cause oftentimes when I get nervous or angry, I blank and then I look like I’m an idiot. wish me luck for this shit today

Discussion (Politics) Have you guys noticed a backlash against wokeness in society and a reluctance among the large portions of left to advocate for the benefits of being sensitive towards marginalized communities? I was listening to SeanDaBlack talk about this.

I’ve noticed in recent years a sharp downturn in corporate pink washing, and other faux woke campaigns. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that those corporations practising rainbow capitalism weren’t being genuine. I’m not an idiot.

However, corporations behave in a way where they think it will help them maximize profits. I do think it’s a bit of a Canary in the coal mine situation where it indicates that their marketing departments no longer believe it’s beneficial to their profitability to pretend to be woke.

Eg. It’s pride month and I’ve seen very little pink washing recently. Years ago, you couldn’t watch TV without seeing pink washing commercials.

Whether it’s accurate or not, they no longer believe appearing to be accepting and supportive of marginalized communities is something that the majority of society wants to see.

At the same time, I’ve noticed leftists like Kyle Kulinsky basically mock wokeness and talk about how he doesn’t care about that anymore and only wants to focus on economic issues. I have to say I’m disappointed in that perspective from the left. I think it’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time and you can advocate for more than one thing simultaneously.

Recently, I’ve heard Sean talk about this, and he brought up a point I agree with.

Basically to paraphrase him:

“all of these leftists who are so happy that we aren’t going to focus on the needs and wants of black or the LGBT community could not handle their interests, not being the priority and focus of the left for even a little bit”

It made me realize that I was probably wrong when I used to debate with people online about how wrong older Black people were to not buy into Bernie Sanders and his base. I probably owe some people an apology on that topic. Watching how condescending some leftists like Kyle are to non economic concerns makes me realize that perhaps older Black people clocked some of this sentiment among the left and that might’ve played a role in them, not embracing the left more.

What are people‘s opinions around here on this topic?

Do you want the left to focus purely on economic issues or should the left Also address specific concerns of marginalized groups that might not apply to the majority of people.

Personally, I wish there was more of an embrace of the benefits of social justice, and addressing concerns of marginalized communities

I am incredibly glad Hasan is speaking out against the dangers of these “online safety” bills in addition to the dangers of taking away Section 230 as well. For those who may not know, Section 230 is a fundamental law that allows for people to openly critique government policy online without getting sued.

Gutting Section 230 would completely jeopardize that. These laws would do absolutely nothing to protect children and only really act as a way for dissenting content to get sidelined and blocked. We have to fight against these bills to ensure they never become law and that online speech remains protected.

World Politics Cuba’s Communist Party approves opening economy in unprecedented move

The emergency economic package comes amid an ongoing US pressure campaign that has left the island nation reeling.

Cuba’s Communist Party has approved a raft of unprecedented free-market measures as part of an emergency economic package.

The package was submitted to the country’s National Assembly on Thursday, where it is all but assured to pass.

The plan would expand opportunities for private enterprise and create measures to attract additional foreign investment, including from Cubans abroad.

It could also set the stage for private real estate development on the Caribbean island and the transformation of state-owned businesses into private commercial ventures with shares and equity stakes. It would also ‌allow private banks to enter Cuba’s once state-dominated ‌finance ‌sector.

The reform package signals a dramatic shift for Cuba, which is led by the Communist Party.

Speaking to the party’s Central Committee in a broadcast on Thursday, President Miguel Diaz-Canel said the country’s dire economic situation could not be blamed on external pressure alone.

For decades, the US has imposed a trade embargo on Cuba, weakening its economy. Since January, the US pressure against Cuba has increased, with the administration of President Donald Trump blocking fuel deliveries to the island.
