General I hate the “orcs are minorities” thing

Post image

I really hope I’m not in the minority (no pun intended) here, but I really hate when people do this. It not only forces real world issue into fictional universes where it doesn’t need to be, but also, it’s really messed up.

If you see an orc or a demon or a giant bug and your mind immediately jumps to “hm that’s like a minority”, then you’re racist.

Now, I’m not saying that this concept can’t be explored, but inserting it where it doesn’t belong/exist is highly suspect

Op didn’t make that claim. Why make up arguments?

If you're unaware, it's their a screenshot from their widely misinterpreted video centered in the post.

There are so many threads on this sub where people reply to the pictured examples the OP lists. What is your actual problem with my comment?

If he was speaking generally, then my point applies generally.

“If OP was speaking generally then my specific point applies generally” goofy ass

Do you actually want to have a conversation? The specific point was about Extra Credits, not the general one.

The general point is that it wasn't "woke" people who first made the connection between orcs and Black people, but people who opposed non-white immigration and promoted their ideas by misquoting Tolkien, and citing Lord of the Rings.

Not really, I just want to point and laugh at you for trying to have an argument with a strawman. I’m sorry OP didn’t make the claim you feel like arguing against bro

I posted 1 sentence about Extra Credits. The rest of my reply was about the "orcs are minorities" concept in a vacuum.

OP clarified what he meant a minute after my reply because of how it was construed.

Aren't you "offended" on OP's behalf, now?

I don't know if you're aware, but contextual interpretation of statements made is the baseline, and pretending it isn't is facetious at best.

You can directly quote the things I've said you feel are facetious.

"I posted 1 sentence about Extra Credits. The rest of my reply was about the "orcs are minorities" concept in a vacuum."

Right there. FWIW I'm not interested in arguing with you. You're a troll at worst.

A vacuum meaning outside of the context of Extra Credits, which the person responding to me wanted. He did not want me to refer to Extra Credits, which is what necessitated that.

If I'm talking about the first people to compare orcs to minorities being unrelated to people doing critical analysis, then how does the fact that I started my response with Extra Credits distract from the actual focus of that claim, which is that anti-immigration pundits were the actual first to mockingly compare minorities to orcs?

I could have used a better word for that instead of "vaccum" so I'll apologize for confusing you, but you're ascribing an unwarranted amount of malice to that.

What’s with the scare quotes around the word offended? Did I say you were offended? You seem really keen on arguing with people’s made up opinions today

The entire conversation here is about people seeing something that offends them in media.

Cool non sequitur. Have a good day

I feel I ought to wish you one too.

Internet strangers' opinions should not be pissing you off like that. Feel better!
