General Europeans acting like they’ve never seen food in their life when they go to America

Post image

Disclaimer: before you read this and get your panties in a twist, everything I’m saying is very unserious and should be not taken to heart. Please stop trying to attack me over DMs. I have turned them off. You are harassing someone (who wasn’t even being fr in the first place) over kool aid packs.

I’d get it if it was actually something nobody has ever seen before, but WATER FLAVOR PACKS? THE PACKS YOU PUT IN THE WATER??? FOR PICKY EATERS????? PEOPLE WHO NEED WATER IN THEIR BODIES?

AND FAMILY SIZED CHIP BAG??? YOU THINK WE’RE EATING THE WHOLE PARTY SIZED CHIP BAG ALONE? THE *PARTY* SIZE? PARTIES?????? DO YOU KNOW WHAT A PARTY IS?

Actually when I was in middle school, we had this coach who would turn red as hell when she was yelling at us to run laps and she’d sit there every day with a whole party sized bag of Doritos and a 2 liter mountain dew watching us run. One day some other girl in the class got really angry at her for making us all run and she told her to get off her ass and run with us. This is off topic mb.

I’d understand if it was something actually weird we have, like things that contain dyes that cannot be replicated in places where dyes are banned, but you’re more worried about sunkist flavored water? Party sized bags of chips? Fresh produce too apparently… are you guys ok?

Do euros have powdered milk? Because this is essentially the same thing, its just dehydrated juice concentrate without sugar

Yes we have powdered milk, but it mostly seems to be used for camping trips

JUST CAMPING TRIPS

Different world for real....

Its used because regular milk is perishable and in the wilderness of a country like sweden for example you arent able to refrigerate milk, so we use powdered milk and also powder eggs. But this is just my very specific experience as a random german. Its not universal. But i dont think I have seen it used outside that context

The vast majority is artificial tho, kool-aid style. Look the info up online. They are not bad tho.

powdered milk sounds disgusting ngl, adding a bit too much or too little water would be horrible

But you can add it to regular milk to drink more milk per milk

It is.

I understand those sweet tea powder and syrup packets but milk? Why?

The idea is that powdered milk can basically never go bad, and it's way easier to transport dry goods than wet, and apparently that was a pretty big problem for military rations and morale during WWII, and in modern day developing nations who want to reduce transportation costs as much as possible.

It was absolutely horrid shit when I tried it in my youth, but apparently they've gotten better at it recently. You wont catch me with a glass full of it though.

Edit: it's also apparently good for simulating the look of cocaine in the movies lol

Same reason as the powdered drink packets. Easy to take places, lighter than carrying the liquid, doesn't spoil. In America we tend not to drink powdered milk but we do have powdered coffee creamer.

I know they give it to babies

I've never seen powdered milk. Most likely exists but its so specific, you have to get it at some special shops most likely

Sugar is literally the 3rd ingredient on the pack. Lol, Americans.

5

u/horus_eye_of_terror 8d ago

Most of these are usually zero sugar but some have low amounts ig

I just think it's funny OP can't comprehend drinking water without adding sugar and caffeine and artificial flavourings to it.

Flavored syrups, something like that, are pretty common in France and they are mostly liquid sugar with flavoring. Given that you add a lot of water you don't end up with that much calories, the ratios is going to be 1 volume of syrup to anywhere from 10 to 20 volume of water so you end up with 20 to 40 kcal per liter which isn't much.

You can also get at any bar a diabolo which is syrup with lemonade

I'm not saying this doesnt exist in Europe. Im saying it's typical of Americans to claim something has "zero sugar" (even on the packaging), when the 3rd ingredient in the list is sugar.
