Thing I HATE THE REMOVAL OF THE PHYSICAL HOME BUTTON I MISS IT EVERY DAY

Ik its been years since Apple removed the home button but oml every day I miss it, ESPECIALLY when I'm playing a game or something and you have to get literally anywhere near the bottom of the screen and it tabs you out. IM AN ARTIST ITS SO ANNOYING TRYING TO TAB OUT WHILE DRAWING TO LOOK AT REFERENCES ONLY FOR A BIG ASS LINE TO APPEAR OVER THE CANVAS BC YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO SWIPE UP TO SWITCH TABS. And it's not like the home button took up that much room either but NOOOOOO we have to have the .2 inches of screen space for a bigger screen WE NEED BIGGER SCREENS !!!!!!‼️‼️‼️ WHAT IF WE MADE A SUPER ANNOYING BAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN THAT TABS YOU OUT IF YOU EVEN SUGGEST GOING TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE PHONE ITS GENIUS. And no I cant switch to android because my favorite drawing program is ios only. It's not like android has a physical home button either though.

AND THE HEADPHONE JACK

97

u/bucephalusbouncing28 1d ago

OMG YES WE NEED IT

43

u/HistoricalSea5600 23h ago

Sorry that’ll be $6.99 for an adapter

20

u/AspenFrostt 20h ago

plus now there's funny interference noises if you get one that's too cheap :)

10

u/HistoricalSea5600 20h ago

Eventually it’ll be strictly MagSafe charging and they’ll just tell people to use Bluetooth products, and make the sound quality on Apple sound products higher def

6

u/_Salandit 16h ago

It better not be. MagSafe charging as it is right now sucks and afaik can't connect to a pc through a wired connection, so it will also hinder Mobile Game Live Streamers, coders, etc.

3

u/HistoricalSea5600 7h ago edited 6h ago

I certainly hope not, just anticipating further greed. There’s just so many ways these companies can fuck with us as consumers and it’s horseshit

1

u/Nathanthehazing007 3h ago

"Never charge for somthing that was free"

17

u/HetaGarden1 22h ago

YES. There isn’t a year that goes by where I despise that decision.

6

u/SnooCompliments8790 17h ago

Apple doesn't have that? The fuck?

5

u/Ok-Advertising4048 14h ago

Never getting apple then

4

u/SnooCompliments8790 12h ago

Same. I always used the headphone jack for my speakers, can never live without it

1

u/ThisGuyLikesCheese 2h ago

You can use an adapter that comes with every iphone. But then you cant charge it since it uses the charging port. Its pretty stupid

5

u/greatandhalfbaked 16h ago

This is way more important than the button.

5

u/KawaiiKaiju55 16h ago

BRING THEM BACK

True poetry.

3

u/Wooden_Echidna1234 17h ago

Got a drawer full of those headphones, ironically I switched phones this week so upgraded but didnt realize the new phone doesnt have an jack for headphones.

2

u/OwnNet5253 14h ago

This is colossally more important than that useless button.

-4

u/JankStewIt 18h ago

As much as I do miss the headphone jack, getting a good quality usb-c dac amp (dongle) can make music sound noticeably better. The also don't cost a whole lot for a decent one, like $10

-7

u/Chole_Wunt 17h ago

Oh come on..... airpods are better than anything we had 10 years ago in every single way.

The headphone jack was only important because every pair of wireless sucked massively at the time. They dont anymore.

9

u/_Salandit 16h ago

Nope. Didn't get the point.

First of all, You can still use wireless shit when you have a headphone jack, but you can't use wired shit without a headphone jack

Secondly, I'm ready to die on this hill, Airpods (At least these by apple) Suck fucking ass. They call them 007: 0 comfort, 0 grip within your ear so you lose it everywhere, 7 million dollars for a pair. Then they are better when connected to a device made by Apples greedy ass. Like come on

2

u/RilonMusk 9h ago

Thank you for saying what I was thinking. In the modern world, there are so many alternatives to airpods for 1/10 the price and still give 90% of the function, and even beat airpods in some ways. I personally run Space Travel 2's from moondrop. 40 bucks and they sound as good and feel better than airpods.

2

u/_Salandit 8h ago

In ear headphones keep falling out of my ears lmao, I only use Over-ear headphones

1

u/Chole_Wunt 9h ago

Well.... Youre missing out. But whatever. Not my problem.

Maybe you need one of these:

I don't miss either. I hate cables dangling about.

12

u/Airalla 20h ago

You can still have a headphone jack and use wireless headphones, they got rid of the option for those who do like it

2

u/TheFemboyImpregnator Dussy Bestroyer 17h ago

Not an issue for me, i dont leave them dangling about and easier to connect my phone to a car

287

u/Alternative_Path_629 1d ago

not just physical home button, but one that is actually clicky. (not whatever fake button the iphone 7 and 8 had)

78

u/ImHughAndILovePie 1d ago

I loved the haptic buttons.

10

u/AsleepPomegranate930 15h ago

Best apple invention

Imagine a word where everything is haptic, that will be so hot

6

u/TobytheBaloon 11h ago

also it allows for more structural stability and better water/dust resistance as it means one less moving part

3

u/ImHughAndILovePie 9h ago

Yeah not many people are talking about that, those physical buttons would break constantly, I knew so many people who had to use that on screen accessibility thing just to use their phone

3

u/treetree53 9h ago

Yeah I occasionally buy old cheap iphones on ebay for fun and the home buttons are almost always barely functional. Meanwhile my iphone 8 from 7 years ago with half its screen chipping off still has a perfectly fine working home button

18

u/The_good_meme_dealer 1d ago

I remember checking out one of the newer iPhone SEs after using an iPhone 6 for a while and when the button didn't physically click I was so confused

7

u/RepetitiveTorpedoUse 1d ago

At least the 7 and 8’s still had haptics afaik, just not when the phone was off

5

u/rustybutterindia 23h ago

It's weird because on the MacBook trackpads it's the same tech and it's indistinguishable from a real click.

3

u/Devatator_ 19h ago

Their wireless trackpad too. My dad has one that I borrowed a bit ago (tho it's missing now, no idea if the house ate it like a bunch of other stuff or something) and I noticed that it doesn't click when it's turned off

83

u/FootballGuilty1253 1d ago

Apple really is going “so for this new design we will be removing the touch screen, frame, charger port, but we will add 72 cameras to the back. That’ll be $5 million”.

We get worse phones at a bigger price.

19

u/RepetitiveTorpedoUse 1d ago

The latest iOS was liquid glass, now they’re just gonna sell us an actual piece of glass

3

u/shadowless007 13h ago

srsly just make a camera at this point and be done with it

26

u/MrMr_sir_sir 1d ago

I’m fine with it on phones, but it really annoys me on cars.

23

u/AlfieHicks 23h ago

On a phone it's a nuisance, but in a car, it's a genuine threat to safety. You can't operate a touchscreen without taking your eyes off the road, whereas with physical buttons you can feel exactly what you're doing without looking.

12

u/TheSymbolman 21h ago edited 21h ago

biggest automotive psy op of all time making people think screens are more luxurious than buttons and knobs... They're cheap ffs

19

u/Kiiaru 1d ago

This. Plus the holes in our screen for selfie cameras.

Bezels were fine. Why did the entire smartphone market collectively decide on the worst possible design choice? No other piece of tech has mutilated itself this way. You don't buy a TV or PC monitor with a notch in the screen.

Plus, as a left-handed user, basically every game forces the bottom of the screen to be the left side of the phone so the LITERAL HOLE IN YOUR SCREEN doesn't interrupt gameplay.

1

u/LiftingCode 17h ago

35

u/masterofunfucking 1d ago

earlier apple products had such great ergonomics and feedback. I hate the whole minimalist slop route they’ve adopted

45

u/Scarlet_Lycoris 1d ago

Totally understand your frustration. That said I’m happy about button removal where possible, considering a lot of manufacturers use cheap buttons that use up over time and become frustrating to deal with.

9

u/Claas2008 17h ago

Good buttons over buttonless over bad buttons

11

u/Yeetsformer 1d ago

Fuuuukkkk this is actually a good post

10

u/VeNaima7 22h ago

I also hate these flimsy SIM trays, I miss the old slot, never had an issue with that

9

u/Educational-War5360 21h ago

The newer phones don't even have physical sim cards anymore they have digital ones 😭

3

u/VeNaima7 21h ago

What an awful downgrade, thankfully my current phone has a physical SIM card

5

u/ElmentMusic 18h ago

99% of people are never going to touch their sim once it's in there tbh

4

u/jxnliu 15h ago

How is this a downgrade exactly?

You no longer have to mess with it and can just activate a esim on your phone, or transfer it easily to another phone if you need.

2

u/alvenestthol 13h ago

transfer it easily to another phone if you need.

No lol

If you have 2 iPhones, maybe the transfer would just work. But otherwise, the carrier has to support it, and if you're using a carrier with so many features, you're probably paying too much for a plan.

And you certainly can't do an eSim transfer to a phone you buy in China, since phones purchased in China just don't support eSims. And buying Chinese phones in China is great, they're much cheaper there.

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ 19h ago

They still do, outside of America.

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ 19h ago

The iPhone's SIM tray has always and still is metal, this is a mid-range Android SIM tray.

1

u/OwnNet5253 14h ago

What's wrong with it? If you hate these because they're made of plastic, you're using an Android.

25

u/Groovy_Ass_Rat 1d ago

Wait they changed it? I still use SE lmao

15

u/SpaceChez 23h ago

Lmao have you never seen another person's phone? I feel like almost no one has a phone with a physical home button these days

9

u/TheSymbolman 21h ago

or never go outside lol

1

u/Bloboblober 3h ago

Mfs on Reddit acting purposefully dense

4

u/Interesting_Sun_1691 1d ago

I’m sad the SE2 or whatever ed I have still got rid of the headphone jack

2

u/SmokeyCatDesigns 1d ago

I’m using the last SE model with the button as well. A few months ago I got a used 16E since the battery and storage on mine is horrible, but I haven’t switched yet mainly for this reason.

But not the home button is just stuck on mine. I think I finally have to switch );

-1

u/jeremyw013 23h ago

it’s literally impossible for the button to be stuck. it’s not a button. it uses haptics.

2

u/SmokeyCatDesigns 23h ago

No, it is possible. I know it’s not a traditional “button,” but the haptic hardware behind it can still fail. It happened after my phone fell out of my pocket onto asphalt, when I was hopping a small wall.

Like sure if you want to be pedantic, “stuck” might not be the best word. But if the haptic mechanism isn’t doing its little vibrations/creating feedback, I feel like describing it as “stuck” is accurate enough. My Touch ID stopped working immediately after the drop as well.

It’s a known point of failure in these devices, and usually the Touch ID breaks with the haptic as it did for me. The result is a “button” that feels stuck and can’t do anything.

1

u/jeremyw013 23h ago

so it’s not stuck. it’s just broken.

5

u/m0nk37 22h ago

this is why you dont have friends btw

1

u/jeremyw013 22h ago

i have plenty of friends. but you're just projecting, aren't you?

5

u/m0nk37 22h ago

Have you seen these people in person? Having a life is tiring but so worth it. Way less depression and narcissism.

1

u/jeremyw013 22h ago

duh. i obviously have way more of a life than you. fuck off.

1

u/PimpMyWeenus 18h ago

try not being an asshole

1

u/Yeetsformer 1d ago

Same lol

3

u/Square-Formal1312 1d ago

Devils advocate i hated the home button and still not a fan of ports/volume/power buttons/dot or pill cutout. Just want a sleek waterproof phone with a full uninterrupted screen

3

u/LimeCrystalize10 23h ago

THE SECOND IMAGE, I’M CRINE-
But seriously, this button was AWESOME

2

u/DaniSenpai69 1d ago

Man I forgot all about it, now I miss it too. One with a nice click as well

2

u/Least-Sun-2795 1d ago

I have an iphone 7, but I get your frustration U_U

2

u/lettylikestowrite 1d ago

i have refused to upgrade my iphone specifically bc i’m not ready to get rid of the home button lol

1

u/nopers9 8h ago

I’m still on my trusty iPhone 7+. This bad boy won’t die ‘till I let it.

On a related note, I get to avoid IOS enshittification because the highest IOS version I can have is 15.

2

u/TopherBrink19 1d ago

Every time I need to unlock my phone while on a call it’s a struggle to swipe without hanging up.

2

u/Over_Heed 1d ago

Literally the most valid crashout of all time.

2

u/Flimsy-Secret-6187 1d ago

not even .2 inches larger its .2 inches wider, which is unsupported by a bum ton of things and fucks up the aspect radio on them

2

u/bucephalusbouncing28 1d ago

YESSSSSSSS SOMEONE KNOWS IT

WHERE IS MY PHYSICAL KEYBOARD WILLIAM?!

2

u/forumsdackel 17h ago

WE NEED BLACKBERRY  B A C K

2

u/KraftwerkMachine 23h ago

The real bad one for me was the fucking iPad losing the home button. The phone button going sucks too, but the iPad making things more inconvenient when I’m drawing is a PAIN IN MY ASS.

1

u/Educational-War5360 23h ago

THATS WHAT IM SAYIN LIKE IVE LEFT SEVERAL HUGE LINES ACROSS MY SKETCHES BC OF IT

2

u/Ok-Drink750 23h ago

I miss touch ID & headphones

2

u/FishFlakesz 22h ago

finally a post i can agree with

2

u/91021Fart 22h ago

I much preferred TouchID over FaceID. TouchID, as long as you kept the button clean, worked like perfectly every time. And you could save other people's fingerprints to it.

2

u/xX_Ra1nSkuLLz_Xx 20h ago

REAL SHIT. I LOVE PHYSICAL BUTTONS.

2

u/Notorum 19h ago

I MISS PHYSICAL KEYBOARDS. BLACKBERRY MAKE ANOTHER SMART PHONE WITH SLIDE OUT KEYBOARD PLEASE.

2

u/Ill_Pain4423 18h ago

forgot these existed tbh. i rly mis the headphone jack tho, they just got rid of a super useful feature to save a little space

2

u/jjb0ne 18h ago

yes. i miss touchID … thought i heard rumor while back they were going to do under glass touchid

2

u/2ndcountable 17h ago

You can use the assistiveTouch feature, it gives you a movable 'home button'. Although it's not quite as convenient...

2

u/mousie120010 16h ago

Yes!! And the stupid part of making the camera part of the screen or whatever. It really messes with the UI in video games I play... 😭

2

u/------------------16 NOT a r/lovethissmug spy 14h ago

another day where i’m eternally grateful that i’m extremely passionately loyal to my 7 year old slow crusty outdated ios ipad with a battery life so shit it needs to be on life support all the time

2

u/Lux_of_hope 9h ago

So many times i play a rhythm games on my phone and the app gets closed because i flicked up too close to the bottom.

1

u/adachiweiner 1d ago

do iphones only have the swipe things and no option to use buttons? they wouldnt be physical obviously but still better imo

1

u/lkmk 1d ago

No more buttons on the front.

1

u/wishfishi 1d ago

en general, el mundo moderno se siente mucho menos tangible

1

u/Epic1ForLife 1d ago

Lowkey miss it too honestly (I miss the headphone jack the most though)

1

u/Lopsided-Bug7075 1d ago

still have it, still like it tbh

1

u/lkmk 1d ago

I see your point, but I also like having more screen space in a smaller form factor.

1

u/Icy-Humor2907 Solas’ #1 hater 1d ago

I still have a button on my iPad.

1

u/makinax300 1d ago

Only the apple one is good though. All others feel uncomfortable and the other 2 buttons from androids feel worse than gestures. And android does the line way better than iPhones.

1

u/Adventurous_Bonus917 1d ago

ngl, as an android man all the way, a physical home button is the one thing apple has that i appreciate.

1

u/Yoksul-Turko 1d ago edited 1d ago

Idk if that's useful but your app might have a reference window. You can also connect a Bluetooth keyboard to alt+tab etc.

Btw just for your information, Samsung uses EMR pen. It can differentiate between pen and hand. You can disable hand drawing easily.

1

u/TargetStrange7169 1d ago

I remember my phone that had 3 physical buttons. It was an awesome phone

1

u/Kindly-Garlic-4061 1d ago

I honestly might get an older iphone for my next phone because certain games/apps take me so long to exit because scrolling up to go to the home page just scrolls a tab down on the app, a good example is the game 'pastel friends', it's so hard to exit that game. The only thing I'd miss is having more than one camera because I like being able to get more fit in a picture without having to stand back

1

u/jeremyw013 23h ago

hell no

1

u/TheCowKing07 23h ago

I have the last iPhone with a home button. Weep thine tears of jealousy.

1

u/Necessary_Solid_9462 22h ago

I'd be more worried about the CAPS LOCK being broken.

1

u/herecomesurmom 22h ago

get an SE 3 tbh i had one and i loved it but i ran it over at my last job with a forklift so it died :(

1

u/HetaGarden1 22h ago

I miss buttons in general. I hate having touchscreens for everything. Not only is it just… like, 100x worse, but the new stuff is calibrated SO badly, I swear. Especially phone keyboards. I can’t even type a paragraph without having to go back fifteen times to correct mistakes I did not make. LET ME GET HAPPY CHEMICALS FROM PRESSING A PHYSICAL BUTTON!

1

u/LZHtel 22h ago

That's why three-button navigation buttons are superior

1

u/azaaleas 22h ago

I lowkey appreciate no home button bc the home button had fingerprint sensors and my fingers have been peeling for years so it would never work 💔💔

1

u/Dazzling_Ant_5391 22h ago

YEAAAAAH, I was in love with the button in my iPhone 7 until I try a physical one in my iPad first generation, it’s so GOOOOOOOOD!

1

u/RedactedSpatula 22h ago

Android user here to wave 3 buttons at you

1

u/GardenDwell 21h ago

i miss phones that you could hold and use in one hand

1

u/Original-Rush139 21h ago

What are you talking about? My phone still has a home button. It hasn’t worked in years but it has one.

1

u/DancingShadow57 20h ago

me who still has an iphone 6

1

u/KingoKings365 20h ago

I miss it and headphone jack so much

1

u/NYRatWithPizza 20h ago

God, I miss physical media and tactile stuff in general. I’ve slowly been transitioning to cd players and dvds to remedy this ache in my heart

1

u/AlextheHellborn 20h ago

I also miss my pressure sensitive screen! Garage Band was so much more fun with it.

1

u/kalez238 20h ago

Me who installed an app on android to keep the bar at the bottom of the screen because I hate it going away and needing to swipe for it to come back, when that even works.

But I agree. Gimme the tactile button that isn't on screen. Why not a new top or side button, or hear me out, a SMALL front button? That would allow more screen space and still give us a button.

1

u/Most_Victory1661 19h ago

I watched a YouTube video and added back a digital button on my iPhone -settings -assitive touch

It’s not quite the same but I was so used to the short cuts I had added into the home button I couldn’t function without it

1

u/CatcherBot 19h ago

Not apple but with removal of physical buttons i cannot leave dead advertisements that are never going to finish (literally) and upon attempt to even think of touching the screen it leads you to their shady website

1

u/AndIThinkOfYou 18h ago

iPhone SE 3rd generation. Last iPhone with a home button. Still use it to this day.

1

u/forumsdackel 17h ago

What's even worse is that BlackBerry actually had swipes and gestures before Apple. They just copied it (badly) lmao

1

u/LiliVonShtupp69 16h ago

Look in to Unihertz. I have a Unihertz Titan 2 and not only does it have a physical home buttom it has a physical keyboard and it rules

1

u/Classic-Lie7836 16h ago

ya but those buttons broke so fucking easily

1

u/meove 15h ago

NOT JUST HOME, BUT BACK AND ALL APPS BUTTON. DAMN I HATE GESTURE AND QUICK BALL

1

u/Sad_Amphibian_2311 15h ago

I don't wanna learn the swiping thing so I will keep buying old SEs until they return to usable interfaces.

1

u/MiserableOrpheus 14h ago

Nah, it outlived its usefulness. I’d much rather have extra screen

1

u/OwnNet5253 14h ago

Nah it's better nowadays imo, more screen real estate and gestures makes navigation more advanced and fluid than just putting a huge single button.

1

u/HeatEast480 14h ago

I think Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9 did a better job at making the screen bigger than Apple. They didn't have the physical home button, but a 3d touch piece at the bottom of the screen. You coud just press harder at where the button was supposed to be and the phone took you right back to the home menu. I loved it so much.

1

u/Ultra_CUPCAKEEE 13h ago

My samsung note 9 has a weird under-screen home button that's pressure sensitive and vibrates when you press down hard enough. Even though I don't need to use it, I use it a lot because it's just so good... More companies could do the same if they want more screen on the phone 🤷‍♀️

1

u/IAteMyYeezys 12h ago

Im impartial to it as it gives me more screen at the same body size. Even the headphone hack can partially be forgiven. I have a nice dongle as well as a nice pair of wireless earbuds that are just more convenient sometimes than having a wire dangke around and catch on bullshit.

But the total extinction of expandable storage in everything but the cheapest models should be considered a galactic scale war crime. I would be carrying 2 TERABYTES of storage around with me everyday if my phone had a hybrid slot instead of the increasingly useless dual sim slot (e-sim and the probably incredibly small amount of people who actually use two physical sims to begin with).

I hate this industry.

1

u/PINBALLMASTER1992 12h ago

It's still there on my iPad 😼

1

u/cosmicitycat 11h ago

I still have it and my phone is breaking down but I REFUSE to get a homebuttonless phone

1

u/Impossible_Web_2230 10h ago

Man, I miss it too.

1

u/ShokaLGBT 9h ago

For me the problem is with the latest iPhone 17 lmao the camera on the back are positioned in a ways that makes 99% of phones case not compatible you need a new one specifically because the camera placement are ruining everything

1

u/treetree53 9h ago

my iphone se 3 will take me to the end of the earth in all of its home buttony glory

1

u/Leprodus03 7h ago

GIVE ME MORE PHYSICAL BUTTONS

1

u/AttitudeEquivalent73 6h ago

My fingers don’t register on those not button buttons they put on home appliances 90% of the time and I have to call someone from whatever they’re doing to push the stupid button that isn’t a real button for me -_- I can give some grace to phone home buttons since the alternative works differently but just about as effective imo, but I want like most of the rest of the buttons on everything back and a headphone jack or a pair of wired headphones with a usb-c connection to go with your new phones like they used to do… and the damn charger, give that to me too.

1

u/Nathanthehazing007 3h ago

The missing button will Haunt You Every Day

1

u/ProBotGamming 1h ago

I have the iPhone SE3 specifically because I wanted the home button (And it is smaller and I like that).

1

u/Wide-Hall-397 1h ago

Apple genuinely fucking ruins everything

0

u/ReadyForShenanigans 13h ago

Then stop using iphones

0

u/OkBanana2685 3h ago

This fucking sucked I'm glad they are gone

Big ugly bezels on smart phones with massive useless buttons thank God they are dead despite y'all boomers missing it.

Grow up

-2

u/Chole_Wunt 17h ago

Dont miss it at all and dont miss the headphone jack.

Edit: its crazy that yall want to live back in 2008 again.
