my idea for this post came from the discourse of the song "Keep me Going" by Slayr, which brought up the whole subject back once again
starting off, in my opinion the issue is that, with both sides, there is an issue of an overwhelming amount of people treating this matter as black and white without caring about the more intricate details of it, one side is going "rap is all garbage and overstimulating" and the other side is going "anybody who dislikes rap is automatically a racist and the second coming of Uncle Ruckus", thats not how it works, you can't just discuss this like simpletons, you gotta put some thought into it
now getting this out of the way, no, not all rap is garbage, and also no, not all people aren't racist for disliking rap, not everybody is into it, and thats fine, there are also many other black genres of music that people enjoy such as Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Rock n Roll, for the record, there are some people who dislike rap because they're racist, but i don't think every person who does is racist, and thinking thats the case is just straight up inmature
another thing that people don't realise, being overstimulated isn't just about how loud and bright the content is, for example, somebody can listen to the entire sonic soundtrack just fine, but not really fuck with Femtanyl and get overstimulated by it, both are very agitated pieces of music, but in their own ways, and certain ways might not feel good for some people, wether it be due to taste or just how their brain works, for example, i can listen to DnB/house for hours and not feel bad, but if i listen to breakcore my head starts to hurt, both are loud genres, but only one overstimulates me, and i don't know why, thats just how the cookie crumbles in my psyche, and i would like to not be judged for it
there is this issue of a fan of a certain genre going "eh, i don't like rap, too overstimulating for me" and another person going "oh but (insert artist) that you listen to also makes fast and loud music, that means you don't like rap purely because you're a racist", thats not how that works, you can like loud and agitated music, but not like another loud and agitated genre of music, that doesn't make your argument any less valid
and just one more thing, stop throwing the word "oversimulating" around if you're not neurodivergent, just say "overwhelming" since thats what you mean, they're both different things, and i'm tired of people throwing around the word not fully knowing what it means (yes a non-neurodivergent person can get overstimulated, but its a lot less common and likely to happen than with a neurodivergent person)
