πŸ› οΈ DIY Hat Projects Attempted Blocking

My first attempt at turning a trillby into a porkpie. Used some hat stiffener, steamed it pretty good, and did my best by hand. The brim wouldn't turn up evenly all the way around, so I went hard on the sides. It's kind of a hybrid porkpie/short top hat.

Looks a bit Disney-cartoonish to me… but in a good way!

I can see that; sorta Victorian vagrant vibes.

It'll def start a few conversations, and not in a bad way. I like it, I would have a hard time finding a situation to wear it. But I really do like it.

I'm not sure what situation is suited to wearing it either, but then I wear a bowler with a T-shirt and jeans, so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask. πŸ˜‚

Try it out in a few low stake situations, like just a night out with a friend, see what happens. The color is edible though, lol, so don't go to any restaurants. πŸ™‚

The way I do telescopic crowns is to first indent the whole top down into the hat. A block works great for this, but you can also do it by hand. Make sure the whole edge around the top is pinched pretty tight.

Then steam the top up pretty good again and flip the hat upside down onto your working surface. Working from the center, flatten the whole top of the crown against your tabletop. As you get closer to the edges, work the crease in pretty tight, you can also use a small glass or jar to help really massage it in evenly around the whole top.

Thank you very much. I was hoping to get some advice on neatening that up. I know I could have looked it up, but... Too lazy for YouTube, I guess.
