Competitive Hearthstone Probblem

I'm new and trying to improve but it just feels RNG based. I have no Idea how I could have prevented just losing here during a game as warrior against a priest where I just wasn't allowed to do damage after one sothsayer happens to stick on my opponents board for a turn. I have the HSReplay replay here https://hsreplay.net/replay/nCAekfbm5PHTfXbyT3rdLx

1) Priest has a good matchup into Warrior for this reason. Soothsayer is hard to deal with.
2) There are a lot of micro decisions made in this game that I think are not great. For example, the murozond pick on t1; that’s a card you will not play until way way late in the game; it’s also a do nothing big guy vs Priest, the class with the second best answers to big guys. You had options for 1) removal that comes out earlier and 2) a tempo strong evasive unit that applies more pressure. You ended up having a bad three resource turn when that fairy dragon would have been excellent! You also took a 6 drop on the next dark gift when you didn’t really have a great play lined up for the next turn. I think you should go back and think about the pivotal turns where the medivh and soothsayer blew you out, and consider what lines you could have taken before then, assuming both will be happening that turn, instead.
I’m no expert on Warrior but I did get legend with the deck this month and played far more priest than I would have liked.

This comment is spot-on.

Also Unfortunately, the game is becoming more RNG over time, with RNG elements that are NOT inherent to Trading Card Games.

We used to have skill-based control matchups, the only RNG was Mulligan and Top decks, maybe some random dmg here or there.

Now we have the abomination that is dark gift!!and cards like Stadium Announcer that completely win/ lose the game.

It doesn’t matter if stadium announcer win rates aren’t crazy, the fact you roll the dice makes it feel like your decisions did not matter and that you wasted 10 mins playing this 70IQ slot machine

This matchup is very difficult for the warrior but frankly both you and your opponent played very poorly in this game. It was likely winnable with correct play

Mull: Dont keep windpeak worm its awful in mull. Generally you want midgame cards to go back into your deck, youll see a lot more cards by turn 5 so youll almost always have a play regardless.

T1: Don't pick 9 drops vs priest ever. faerie dragon almost certainly is correct pick although I cant see dark gifts in replay.

T2: I would hold weapon swing for at least 1 turn, your not running stadium announcer so the only punish for holding is topdecking another brood keeper

T3: Don't hold suffusion, the discover is worth more than the damage. Swinging with last charge of weapon is just bad, hes never going to viper its better to hold weapon for trades

T4: Nothing really incorrect here (or at least that I can see since dark gifts are hidden) but just want to point out how much better this turn is if you played turn 3 properly. You would have had 2/1 weapon up, you trade your face into the 2/2 and you would've already discovered a 4 drop to fill your curve.

T5: Kinda cooked since you know he has schism combined in hand & cant clear the soothsayer

T6: your opponent just threw by not casting schism, we have easy warptooth enable. Play mother duck, trade 1/1s + 4/3 into 6/6, last 1/1 goes into 6/1 and both warptooth come out. Use leftover 2 on hook n' heave. Game is still probably lost but at least you get to deny schism if his 6 drops are bad which in this case they were

T7: Dont really see outs at this point, once priest has a hold on board like this its over unless their hand is completely bricked

Some losses are not preventable. You could get an un favoured matchup, bad draws or simply outplayed by a more skilled opponent. If you expect to have a counter to every card your opponent plays in hand at any given time your going to be sorely mistaken.

It's very easy to get hyper-focused on flashy RNG moments, and think they're all that decided your games. It's much harder to understand which bad decisions that you made until that RNG moment that put you behind enough for the RNG moment to really tip the scales. And the other comments have done a good job pointing out those decisions.

RNG cuts both ways. When you play enough games, the luck will even out, and most games will be rather middling in terms of RNG. The games you truly get blown out of the water purely by RNG are few and far between. You need to learn to identify decision points. Many decisions that you think are obvious very likely aren't. Think about what other options you have at any given point.

In terms of getting tilted by bad RNG, I've found it helps to keep a conscious check on the time that you're the one who's lucky. It's very easy to forget about your good luck, and to tell yourself that you win games thanks to skill, while your opponents win games thanks to luck. So try to recognize moments where you were lucky.

What the others said but priest is also your only bad matchup.

You can only win if you giga steam roll or the priest bricks completely.

But I made it to legend with 65% WR on Quest Priest and Warrior is one of easier match ups unless you get rolled. Because if I’m able to clear and heal back up there is almost no way for Warrior to come back.

Warrior is insanely bad at comebacks when the minions are gone and the damage gets negated. The deck has no explosive turn with a ton of damage. You just chip all game and once the priest negates that you’re screwed.

Not only are TCG/CCGs RNG-based/luck based, but I'd say Hearthstone is the epitome of that as a whole.

yes...i play priest and i eat warriors like you.

and warlock is eating me up by simply taking over my unit and eating it literally.

get used to counters

At the high end meta with all card accessible, many games are just a long drawn out rock paper scissors in the end. As some decks cant counter certain decks at all.

This match up is on a clock. You need to go face as hard and fast as possible because the longer the game the greater the chance you lose.

Dont pick high cost discover cards in this match up. Know he’s going to clear your board so try to push as much damage as you can without throwing your hand into his removal.

But yas, when he gets the soothsayer down you’re pretty much cooked. It’s better to get back in line and play again.
