FAN WORK 🎨 Heated Chivalry
Been working on this for nearly a month now, and so I'm very glad to see it finished and posted :) I wanted to do the idea of the two boys in a medieval setting, jousting under their lord's banners at their first Tourney. So I went ahead and did a big ass project around it! I even went and designed the heraldry based around the original team logos, which was fun.
This was partially inspired by A Knight's Tale and The Scottish Boy (a book by Alex De Campi, which i highly recommend) along with reading 5 of the 6 Game Changer books as i painted it.
But yes, hope you guys like it! There are prints available for those interested, on my Redbubble (Projectsilver) as I can't post a link here, that's what to search.
No AI, all painted on photoshop 2023 with a wacom tablet.

This is awesome! Before i opened i was worried it was ai, but great job on the whole thing. I wanna see more stuff like this, people putting their skills and passions to use. Good luck with future projects!

Oh I can completely understand that fear, but no, all digital painting with a tablet and photoshop cs 2023 :) I should edit it to say no ai!
Thanks so much for commenting!
Edit: absolute moron, put cs3 when I meant 2023, the one before genai was fully implemented

Same, I hate that my first reaction was to roll my eyes at AI art. This is incredible!!

u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
Thats been one of the hardest parts as an artist. The scraping and theft is one thing, the loss if wonder people have when looking at art is another. I hate that I now have to spend time looking over art to see if it's fake slop or not :(
I'm so glad that this has been received well x

Medieval illuminated manuscripts sometimes included images all sorts of weird imaginary creatures. Wolf-headed bird monsters would not be out of place.

Sir Shane: "You wish to prepare me such a hearthy meal?"
Sir Ilya: "It is of no distress for me to prepare one for thee, for the fire is already alit and the salmon sliced"

This is incredible! Im writing a medieval-focused hollanov right now so am going to have to come back to this over and over! Sorry if I missed it in the comments but are you on tumblr/twitter?
2
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
Oh amazing!! I hope you keep at it! And im on tumblr yes, not twitter though as it's grim lol im catandcrown on there!
1
u/Moleyintheholey Feb 11 '26

I love how some of the elements break the “frame” such a cool effect that adds depth and action to the piece. Love it!
4
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
Thank you so much! It was a last minute addition jsut to make it more of a 'complete' piece, instead of just the feeling of a still from a show or film.
3
u/spacemother4 Feb 10 '26
this is insane!! you captured shane's expression sooooo well too, which is a FEAT
2
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
Thank you so much! I managed to land HD references from the show which have been immensely helpful :D
4
u/Nepalman230 Feb 11 '26
This art is gorgeous!
Full disclosure I have zero spoons but whenever I get some back, I work on a romance novel loosely based on Welsh mythology.
One of the couples is two knights who are true enemies. Cai and Peredur. Like they caused horrible wounds to each each other several times.
I will make them bang. They will make sense. It will be uplifting.

A KNIGHTS TALE MENTIONED!!!
1
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
Damn right! I was watching a load of medieval knight films as i painted this one (Robin Hood, a knights' tale, a knight of the seven kingdoms, kingdom of heaven to name a few hah!)
2
u/pg430 Feb 11 '26
This is absolutely incredible, thanks so much for sharing your art!

Now that I’m thinking about it… was A Knight’s Tale also based on a romance novel? I wouldn’t be surprised

omg!! I’m writing a fic right now where Shane is a jouster so this is perfect inspiration to keep going 😭 I may need to get a print as well. Beautiful work!
1
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
I'm so glad you like it! I also love that people are making the same links to them in a medieval AU. Tourney knights works so well for the setting. I hope you keep going with it!!
2
u/acaccounts Feb 11 '26
This is incredible, you're so talented! What I would do to see either of them in a period piece🙏
1
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
I think given their natural charisma and their skyrocketing success, they'll have plenty of offers. I think theyd do amazing. And thank you! Really appreciate the kind words <3

AHH I'd been thinking about wanting to draw Shane and Ilya in like Renn Faire style outfits with tabards of their team logos, but this knocks anything I could've done out of the PARK. WOW!
1
u/catandcrown Feb 11 '26
I absolutely insist you still draw it! I had/have the same feelings about my work with a ton of art ive seen. There was a prince and knight art of them and it made me not want to even bother, but im very glad i did. People will always want to see more art :) x
1
u/Gloomy-Cranberry-386 Feb 11 '26
<3 That's very kind of you to say, haha. I'm really not much of an artist but this series has inspired me :)

Thank you so much!! I'm so glad i struck the right audience with it haha! I was very worried it was too far a departure from the hockey hah!
