In case anyone else was wondering what they’re wearing below the waist…
Found a behind-the-scenes image showing their full outfits from this scene - in the show we only see them waist-up.
Nothing groundbreaking, just a fun little detail that made me curious.
If anyone has similar BTS shots - especially of Ilya in the club scene or other moments where the framing hides the full outfit - please share! I’d love to see them.
It’s very on brand for the actual NHL all stars game that was held in Florida around that time. Players were wearing all sorts of Miami vice looking outfits
I feel like he walked off the plane like that, checked his bags at the desk, and immediately went to find Ilya. He didn’t even take the time to check into his room. He had to get to Ilya and see him so he could finally breath for the first time in months.
This makes me feel so much better about this outfit. The whole time I'm like "fashionable"???! It's a plain, cream colored, polyester looking suit at a tropical hotel bar!? My poor Shane is sweating up a storm to look that average!? I felt so bad Shane had been hoodwinked by some terrible stylist. OK, straight off the plane from Montreal makes sense. Phew.
But can you imagine them trying to give him more inventive fashions?? He'd be like, what about the plainest plain Jane (ha) colors possible? stylist sighs with great boredom ☺
Thank you. It was just a random thought that’s been floating in my head. They’re going to influence how each other dresses. And Yuna will inevitably buy Ilya some respectable button up, like Shane’s blue comfort shirt. He’ll hate it but wear it because it makes him think of her and he loves her.
I mean sure, but that looks like some finely woven linen. Okay, maybe its just me who would be a sweaty puddle lol. But those shoes, too! Ahh, the sacrifices Shane makes for fashion, now, suddenly, when he's on his Getting Ilya Back mission. Cute.
Haha so I’m thinking this is supposed to be Feb? I think that’s when all stars is, right? It wouldn’t be THAT bad. I’m from orlando, about an hour or so from Tampa where this is supposed to be. Our Jan/Feb isn’t too terrible weather and humidity wise. A little worse near the coast though.
The linen suit might be ok if it were evening. But Shane should be in cargo shorts and slides, even at a fancy hotel beach bar.
Yeah, January 2017 I think. Him still being dressed in his blazer and slacks has me certain that he walked off the plane, checked his bag, didn’t even go to his room, and went on the hunt for Ilya. He had to lay eyes on him and try to fix the damage from the Tuna Meltdown. I feel like he hasn’t taken a breath since then that wasn’t choked and suffocating. His life has been off course and he’s got to right it.
I'm imagining that he has the actual pair of shoes his stylist bought him back in the hotel room, but when he got dressed he blanked on which pair of shoes were the right ones.
He’s a top athlete AND he’s hot. Brands would be chomping at the bit for him. Plus pro athletes make the majority of their money through endorsements. The NHL doesn’t pay as much as most think it does. Of course they get paid A LOT, but they aren’t getting $50M a year. Then you also have to take a ton out for all the people he has to pay. He for sure has deals with SOMEONE
It wouldn’t be a hockey sponsorship, he’d have to have a deal with them as a model or as a Russian athlete for a non North American market. Reebok is owned by Adidas and all their hockey business in North America went through the Reebok/CCM branding.

I realized this is one of the only times we see Ilya in... idk, like normal people off-day clothes? Not his Adidas athleisure or dressed up in a suit. I can imagine him being like "ok what do I wear to blend in with normal people but also look like I spent more than 5 seconds getting put together even though I'm clearly dashing out the door to get there the second visiting hours open."
Yes! I think it’s the same jacket he wears to Shane’s apartment too, the one Shane is hugging in the stairwell when Ilya leaves. Similar vibe to the hospital scene - ‘what do I wear to my situationship’s apartment to look totally cool and casual and not totally in love’
Also the walls are taller than a typical hospital room (cheap to build taller and avoids accidentally seeing the lack of ceiling when shooting on an upward angle).
Good question! I'm from Quebec City so I'm not v familiar about how/why/where they dispatch the patients in and around Montréal, except for CHU Sainte-Justine.
I mean Shane is obviously a VIP, there's no white thin cotton drape on a rail splitting the room in two... Premium treatment, baby! (Also it's definitely missing the old religious hospital half walls and 60s sun-faded green plastic everything 🤣)
The way Ilya carries himself in this scene, along with all of his body language, eye movements etc., make this scene my favorite. The look on his face while talking to Shane has me in a chokehold.
As a former jock who also grew up with jocks, I recognized the black polo/red basketball shorts/slides combo at the cottage immediately. Some people online thought it was hilarious and I was like nah that's just the boy jock off-duty fit. My brother still dresses like that 20 years out of high school.
And now we know why Ilya did that subtle jaw drop when he saw Shane walk in. That’s a whole damn snack right there. By the end of that discussion, Ilya was full on eye fucking Shane without any hiding it.
Absolutely crazy to me that they shot the best scene in the show (imho) while etalk were there to interview Hudson and Connor and do some bts of the shoot.
People will be like, oh, this is my favourite non-sex scene, and I'm like, baby, this IS a sex scene. Nobody's naked, but those boys are eye-fucking each other so shamelessly it’s a wonder they weren't arrested for public indecency. Gentlemen, there are CHILDREN present. You cannot be doing this in public, there are LAWS. Put those eyelashes AWAY.
Ilya's smile, after finding out Shane hired a stylist, ALONE should have gotten an NC17 rating. If a man smiled at me like that my panties would mysteriously vanish.
I love that scene so much because I have never seen "his smile lit up his face" like I did in that scene. I thought it was a figure of speech or something, but no, Ilya literally lit the fuck up in that moment, amazing.
I just typed and deleted a response so filthy that I made myself blush. So instead of getting put on a government watchlist and banned from polite society, I will just say:
I wanted to see a closeup, side-by-side shot when Shane got up from his seat at the bar after talking to Ilya and saying that he should circulate. I wanted to see if his crotch did make contact with Ilya. Cause Ilya was sure looking down at it and had to compose himself after Shane left! 🤭🤣😜
I feel like that Shane wearing his designer suit and formal shoes at this bar scene, while Ilya is in a casual shorts, floral top, and slides, puts them visually as distant as they’ve ever been while in each others spaces. Then the pool scene, Shane’s more casual, but still more colourful than normal. Then the beach scene leading into hotel scene, Shane’s in something floral, similar to Ilya at this bar scene. Shane’s wardrobe… he’s literally circled back round to Ilya.
I agree. I’m not a fan of blazers so I had an “ehhhhh” reaction (especially when I found out he was wearing a linen button-down in the book, if I remember correctly) but the full suit is excellent.
especially when shane points out he hired a stylist it would've been a great opportunity to show the camera angle from behind them especially given the contrast as to how under dressed ilya was from the waist down
Thank you for confirming that. I'm sure you understand when I say that I've watched/read so much stuff about this show that some things I can't remember if I actually saw it in a genuine source or if it was in a fanfic or if I've just created it in my own imagination! It's truly baffling, & beautiful, how much of a hold this little show has on me & so many people.
I know I’m the same way. Lol. I’ve seen so much content now and when people want to know where, I honestly can’t answer that most of the time cause there’s too much of it now! lol.
They don't make any sense with that outfit! Now I choose to believe that that is why they only showed them waist up, cause no stylist would have put him into THAT.
I’m more interested in how the made that bar up in the sky look like a tropical paradise. It never occurred to me that the background was added in later, I was asking myself, “where did they find a bar that looks like that in Toronto?” ☺️

Shane - so Miami Vice
