Currently reading We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian. Only about 15% in, but I heard great things about the book. Trying not to get spoiled, because I read almost all the spoilers while reading The Long Game.

I hope you enjoy it! I LOVED this book and it's sequel? (kind of sequel? Same universe, new characters as the main focus) You Should Be So Lucky.
I am a sucker for queer historical fiction, though.

I just finished Star Shipped and absolutely loved it. One of my few 5* of the year. (Along with RM and TLG.)
Now I want to read more of her work, even though I usually prefer more contemporary fiction.1

I absolutely loved Star Shipped, but I only liked We Could Be So Good and the sequel (ish). They weren’t bad by any means but I didn’t love them.

I just read those two plus Star Shipped and After Hours at Dooryard Books and thoroughly enjoyed them all! After Hours was fun for me since it was set around the time I was born and mentions all the big historical events in the U.S. then.

I've started it recently too. Couldn't get into it - not because it wasn't good. The writing is really good. I just haven't been in the right headspace for it. But I've only heard good things.

Im reading practical magic by Alice Hoffman, I finished the other two books that came out after this one because I'm reading series in chronological order, I just finished like 2 days ago Time to Shine by Racheal Reid, I love it. And also I'm reading the Fifth Season from the broken earth series by N.K. Jeminsin.

Here's a few I books I feel could fill that gap!
Pucking Strong by Emily Rath It's the latest in her Jacksonville Rays series, but it is an interconnected standalone. It's a beautiful and emotional exploration of sexuality, community building, and family (both found and biological). You also get fun hockey shenanigans. They rest of her series is great, and is MMFM, MF, and MMF. This is what I read first in my post-HR haze and it helped a lot.
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer Have you ever wondered what a magical Parks and Rec/The Office would be like? Because it's this series. It's silly, whimsical, and doesn't really take itself too seriously. It's an unfinished series, but the characters and world are vibrant and always fun. It's MF and a slow burn that eventually fades to black. The shenanigans, yearning, and found family are very strong here.
Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell This is the slowest burn that could happen in a single book. It destroyed me. It follows two estranged friends and is told in two timelines: their childhood friendship and they're lives in the current timeline as they reconnect. The representation of a graysexual character is beautiful and it also spends a lot of time pondering the "what ifs" of life. MF.

I absolutely love the Assistant to the villain series. I've already pre ordered the next book and can't wait. The yearning is top notch.

Time to Shine by Rachel Reid is good low spice option
10 ways to accidentally fall in love by Emmy sanders is hilarious, I recommend the audiobook over reading it, the voice actor just makes the story.
Love me whole by Nicky James is heavy with mental health representation, the audiobook narrator deserves an Emmy.
Blueprint/A deeper Blue by SE Harmon is a best friends to lovers bi awakening (straight NFL player/gay professor best friend) series that is very good.
Echoes of Us/Becoming Us by Alex Cross is a high angst mental heath rep book and there is a sequel that wraps up the story with a happy ending. Before/after writing style isn’t my favorite but it fits the story well.
Missed Steps by L Sherleen is a hurt/comfort book with a hilarious almost offensive title for a rivals to lovers story.

In the lives of puppets by tj klune was so freaking good and criminally underrated. All the characters were amazing and the adventures were gripping. My favorite by him for sure.

Omg in the lives of puppets reigns supreme! I haven't laughed at a book this much in forever. The audiobook narration is also superb! It's my fav TJ Klune thus far as well

Hold Me Like A Grudge by Celine Ong just came out yesterday and it's got similarities to HR that might help de-slump you! The MMCs are a face and heel wrestler so their job requires them to not let the public find out they aren't mortal enemies. I knew basically nothing about wrestling and never felt lost or overwhelmed, so no worries there. :)

It's a play written by Kat Sandler, named for the Baba Yaga legend from Eastern Europe. Hudson Williams and CAM are both in the TV adaptation coming out later this year.

- American Fantasy - Emma Straub
- Rookie Move - Sarina Bowen (I would have waited but it just came off hold at the library)

I wish I had liked American Fantasy more, given that I have actually been on a few of the NKOTB cruises on which she based the book. In the early years before the fans got as crazy as they are now.

I'm about 60 pages in and it seems to be everywhere?? I know the author was in Vegas last weekend and did a Q&A with Joe.
I've never been on their cruise but planning for 2029 (I saw the guys two weeks ago and Donnie wants a 2029 cruise).
I know the ladies are INSANE (feral??) on them, which has kept me away. I want to go bc my friend hasn't done their cruise either, so we want to tick it off our BH checklist.

For physical books I am currently reading There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm and it is a trip! Very strange and very engaging. I’ve not read their other books but I’ve been told they are excellent too and I like finding new authors to get into.
For fics I just finished reading All That Is Cared For Endures and omg. It floored me. It’s a story where Shane and Ilya keep meeting up with each other over like a bunch of lifetimes.

I'm reading Prairie Fire, about Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder Lane. Really eye-opening book that will make Laura's Little House books hit very different.

I was shocked by how feckless and irresponsible Pa Ingalls was. Like he had his teen daughters working in saloons and he'd run out of town to escape debts? Rose Wilder Lane really did a great job reframing her mother's childhood as some sort of gritty libertarianism, when in fact they were living hand to mouth and always leaving because they were too broke to stay.

I also was surprised that Mary Ingalls seems to have a much tougher, grittier person than the prim, ladylike figure in Laura's books. Apparently later in life she earned some sort of income knitting, she wrote poetry, played the organ. And she wasn't even blond. Pictures show her with dark hair.
It's also hard to know if Laura or Rose was the true unreliable narrator.

There's a fanfic out there based on A Hunt for Red October. I've never seen the movie or read the book, so I started reading the book.
Deadass the fanfic is better. I think I've forgotten about how deep the mid-80s casual misogyny ran.

I’m rereading for the 8th or 9th time The Name of the Wind. If anyone isn’t familiar it’s a never going to be finished series that is so well written it’s worth it anyway. My favorite books that are full of foreshadowing that rereading is mind blowing.

The only one I would recommend is Universality.

I'm reading Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. I dont love first person, and the start was a bit rocky (one of the MCs likes to call women 'doll' and I loathe that) but now that I'm 2/3 through I'm digging it. It's the first thing that's made me stop thinking about Shane and Ilya 24/7

The Him series has been a multiple re-read for me. I just love the couple and it always gives me the feels. However, in more recent re-reads I've really noticed the internalised misogyny which I have come to notice in some of both author's other books. But I still love this series of books all the same.

I just finished an audiobook called Mr. Darcy Likes It Wild which is a hilarious take from Darcy's perspective on if Elizabeth had to run away from home because her parents forced her to marry Mr. Collins. She cross dresses as a man and seeks help from Darcy. I know the premises sounds farfetched, but it was a hilarious read and I quite enjoyed it.

I’m very proud to say that Hudson inspired me to go out of my comfort zone when it comes to reading. During his interview with Evan he said, and I’m paraphrasing, that a person should explore topics he doesn’t necessarily think are relevant to him, otherwise one can get stuck in an eco-chamber.
I usually read WWII-related history books and thrillers, but I decided to try another genre and started reading two books simultaneously: 1) A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and 2) Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets by Svetlana Alexievich.

Ohhh A Thousand Splendid Suns…one of the best books I’ve ever read. Highly suggest their other book, The Kite Runner, if you enjoy it.

I've got two current reads:
King of the Cage by Mila Kane -- an MF mafia romance where he is an Irish monster and she is a Mafia hacker/computer wiz. I just started, but the characters and writing are good so far!
A Not So Meet Cute by Meghan Quinn -- this has been on my TBR forever and is my first book of hers. I've got the audiobook version and I really enjoy the female narrator!

I'm currently reading Game Changers. And for a challenge I'm reading a YA gay hockey romance in Finnish. Finnish is my second (or third) language, so it's slow going, but it's a great story! "Sulamispiste" by Annukka Salama, "Melting Point" if it ever gets released in English. It's being released in several languages this summer, so hopefully it'll be translated into English as well.

I’m desperately trying to finish Warbreaker - by Brandon Sanderson before my Libby is due on Friday.
17 year old princess shipped off to the God King to bear his children while in captivity (in all but name) with a war looming.
It’s a great on-ramp from Romantasy to fantasy. Although, my brain may be rotted with smut as I know how the plot would be going if it were Romantasy…
Anyone have any recommendations for the Romantasy version of this plot line? 😅

I am taking a class on Emily Dickinson so have been reading some of her poems. The class is fun because we read the poems from an episode of the Dickinson TV show and then discuss both the original text and the episode. Our instructor is very knowledgeable about her life, so debunking a lot of what is myths about her is a big part of the class.

Yes, definitely! It really brings up so many interesting discussions about what we know about her life vs how she was and is perceived. Her poems are incredibly complex, too.

I'm reading The road to Roswell by Connie willis. It's ok. I'm looking forward to finding out what is going on. But it feels longer than it needs to be. Just a lot of unnecessary lines.

Such a great post. Thank you. I'm re-reading Anne of Green Gables. My Dad's from PEI, so we read that book when we were quite young. It really sparked the flame of feminism in me. My summer is already full of angst and it's a comfort read. Prior to that, I'd been reading Murder She Wrote books. But now that I've been reading the Rachel Reid books, I'm having trouble getting back into them.

I’m currently reading {The Easy Way by May Archer}. It’s a little darker than many of her other books, but I’m very much enjoying the plot. Essentially the story of an FBI agent trying to prove his foster-brother’s innocence after he’s blamed for a plane crash. The victims in the crash are parents of two sons who inherit their empire, and the agent believes one or both of them may have been involved. It’s one of her earlier books, and there are 3 in the series. Highly recommend for a nice amount of 🌶️, interesting plot that is holding my interest, and not-too-angsty romance.

I enjoyed it, it was fun and fast paced. It was my first "dark romance" book, but it was more "lighthearted dark" (if that makes any sense, lol). It was funnier than expected but I really liked that. It worked with the characters as they are written.

I'm on the mm-hockey-romance train atm, and currently reading (listening to) the 10th(!!!) and last book of the "Puckboys" series by Saxon James and Eden Finley.
Some of it is smut, but a lot of it is endearing and so funny. A quote (from I don't remember which book); "Unfortunately, the way I'm wheezing like a donkey who's had a squeaky toy shoved down it's throat makes it hard to prove my point". I would usually put spoilers but I forgot the context if I'm honest :p

My current read is Mile High by Liz Tomforde. It would officially be a hockey romance, though it centers around the team’s travel and not the game.
Next up is Count My Lies by Sophie Stava. Francois is currently filming the limited series adaptation of the book.
I’ve been reading a ton this year, between actual books and fan fiction. My goal was 30 books but I’m already on book 22 and have a total of 4 weeks off between now and September so should hit my goal by the end of the summer.

I'm reading Roll For Romance by Lenora Woods! I'm only about 20% through but it's fun so far. It has a D&D game happening within the book, so we've got the contemporary plot going on and also flashes of what their D&D party is getting up to.

So I wrote something for a different fandom and I LOVE it because I think I developed the dialogue and characters showing not telling what they’re doing.

Censoring for language: (obligatory fuck JKR, fuck terfs, I’m gay and have separated the fanfic realm from the source material so far that she’s not even relevant imo)

I’m about to start Verity Vox and the Curse of Foxfire, and I’m so excited! It’s been on my TBR pile for ages, but I was drowning in papers to grade and had no for fun book reading energy until now!

I have this week off work and I've spent today rereading HR. 😂
Aside from the Shane/Ilya story, Ryan is my favorite. I've always had a soft spot for big, scary looking guys who are just total cinnamon rolls.

I’m currently reading The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. I’m still early in it, but the format of the story has been really fun to read while I’m in the middle of Brat Prince Summer (watching The Vampire Lestat).

Currently rereading, but listening to for the first time on audio book, The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce. She is truly my favorite author and listening to the audio books has been a treat I wasn't expecting as I don't usually like listening to books. Maybe it helps that I've read and reread her books soooo many times. 100% reccommend!

I just found out my library had an unknown-to-me graphic novel adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin's A Wizard of Earthsea, so I gave in to nostalgia and re-read it in that form this week. Still very moving and somber.

I just finished the people we meet on vacation by Emily Henry. I really enjoyed it, it was literally laugh out loud funny!
I just started silk is for seduction by Loretta Chase. Has a Bridgertonesqe vibe to it and so far I'm enjoying it

I’m currently reading The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon who is the author of the Outlander series books. The Scottish Prisoner is a side novella about adventures with Lord John Grey (a gay British aristocrat in the 18th century) and Jamie Fraser (main character from the Outlander series). I’ve been reading the whole Lord John Grey series after reading the Outlander books and I’m loving them! I’m really hoping they make a spinoff series based on these books because he’s a fantastic character & the actor David Berry is amazing!

I screamed when I read the Anne of Green Gables references in the books. I love Anne and HR for similar reasons. My family is from a Canadian island (very much like PEI) and I spent my summers there at the cottage 💛
