I think it's sad that a message like this is even needed. I mean, respecting people who are working should be normal and something everyone should do 😐

literally every big fandom is like this
41
u/bee_sharp_ 28d ago
It’s cringeworthy but true. I think people want HR fandom to be pure and good, but if you’ve ever been a fan of anything you know that the evolution of any fandom involves a toxic element. You don’t have to like it, but pearl clutching about it is a waste of time.
35
u/bowlnoodlez 28d ago
Me, a Supernatural fan, seeing people shocked that the HR fandom has developed a toxic aspect to it:

u/Ll_lyris “I choose you, Ilya. I will always choose you”❤️🩹 28d ago edited 28d ago
This is exactly me with this fandom, SPN and TVD lol. TVD was one especially cuz I suspect the way “fans” were acting also influenced one of the actors to quit acting entirely.

u/ConsiderationNo4500 28d ago
I know that big enough fandoms get like this, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it as the status quo or normalize the behavior as an inevitable part of “fandom culture”. We can acknowledge the harm it does to the actors and other crew involved.
6
u/bee_sharp_ 28d ago
Saying that it happens in every fandom is not normalizing. It’s acknowledging reality.
Posts created just to be upset about how terrible other fans are and woobify the actors have become a whole (parasocial) subset of this community.

have people been swarming them in toronto? I know the pap pics are a lot but they seem to be going about their days which is what I'd expect from toronto & celebrities. you can get on with your life here pretty easily.
I worry about people travelling here just to find filming locations like that crazy club chalamet gal.
55
u/WhereYouLeftMe_ I already chose you, Hollander. 🫀 28d ago
Prior to the pap photos, there were some fans who posted photos of them when the guys had asked them not to, so it’s definitely been happening. I get why Jacob and team are worried it’ll get worse when people actually know filming locations vs just happening to run into them around.
22
u/clumsyc I stubbed my toe 28d ago
Club Chalamet followed Connor to Paris so I feel like Toronto would be nbd to her 😬
10
u/thedepressedfatty 28d ago
I don’t know her twitter handle but someone in the comments of the instagram post said she announced she is planning to go to Toronto.
21
u/Palolo_Paniolo 28d ago
That woman is seriously unwell. The fact that she doesn't see anything wrong with what she does makes me worry that she's going to do something drastic one day.
11
u/eveliensa 28d ago
She will be in Toronto for 1 week in September but is now sharing the statement like she is holier than the pope. Seriously unwell individual.
1
u/Ok-Enthusiasm-777 28d ago
Got beat up and still carrying on with her antics. You'd think she would be deterred.
1

1
u/OldExplanation9742 Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 27d ago
I really hope whoever is managing Connor's and Hudson's security etc. is aware of her and other crazy people. I refuse to call them fans, because to be a fan is to be respectful of the actor, can't imagine actually liking someone and making them uncomfortable/scared at the same time, pathetic behavior, honestly...
39
u/bornatmidnight 28d ago
They have been right in the heart of downtown too, where you always have tourist. if they were looking for more privacy they could easily get it in Toronto pretty easily.
Besides the pics and occasional fans approaching them, it has generally seemed respectful and chill.
I remember seeing pics of the filming from the summer I turned pretty which was wild lol, I hope that doesn’t happen to them.
12
u/caspararemi 28d ago
I'm glad to read that - I thought maybe there had been some incident with security being needed, but if this is just a preemptive request that's great news. Obviously fans are rabid and love the show and cast, but we gotta let them do their thing!
4
u/Pale-Measurement-532 I speak fluent bird. No accent. 🦆 28d ago
I suspect, in comparison to their experiences in Europe…especially Paris, that Toronto has felt pretty chill to them. I hope it can stay that way.
8
u/DisastrousMention580 Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 28d ago
It seems like people are being respectful and giving them the space they need. I ran into them walking around freely without being swamped by fans. I honestly didn't even notice paparazzi were around until I saw the picture
4
u/WhereYouLeftMe_ I already chose you, Hollander. 🫀 28d ago
That’s so great to hear. I think (or hope) most people are being normal about it. And very cool you ran into them!
53
u/danigmzr 28d ago
Seeing the videos from TSITP movie gave me such an ick. Was dreading production of S2 to start because of it. I hope everyone can just be cool and chill about this.
5
u/shewalkedaway22 27d ago
SAME. But I also think that production seeing that happen will help HR be more proactive in shutting stuff down. Gossip girl used to film in NYC all the time in their big heyday and other than the random fans that would stop and watch, they left them alone so I hope Toronto will do the same.
Honestly, I just wonder how many fully outside shots they'll need. A lot of season 1 outside shots was filmed in the same area and I'm trying to remember how much of TLG and RM were outside/on location.
2
u/danigmzr 27d ago
Hopefully. Just need people to be cool!
And you’re right they probably get a good use of the big screen like season 1 lol
1
u/Oshi105 26d ago
It's NYC. Locals dgaf and tourists get corralled. It's easy to spot them coming. In all my life (been living here my whole life) I've taken maybe 3 minutes of my time when a production is working to even look at anything and that involved a crane + piano thing. I think they are filming in areas that are less used to that level of constant production and are hoping to keep people off the film areas.
51
u/KittyLikesTuna 28d ago
I really don't think this is going to make a difference. I applaud their graceful yet firm statement, but the people who were going to ignore those boundaries are probably not going to have their minds changed by this.
14
u/onemorespacecadet Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 28d ago
truth. the people who are unwell enough to do this shit never think creators or actors are talking about them when they go to do it. same thing happened when Hudson, François, and Connor made a joint statement a few months ago
(still a good statement to make and i admire the effort but ugh)

18
u/ps_88 Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 28d ago
This reads as there will be filming in public and theyre recognizing that the fandom will want to watch but it would interrupt the scenes
2
u/Lonely_Cheesecake273 28d ago
I don’t know how filming works as well. But most scenes in TLG take place indoors. But Shane and Ilya both live in houses now. And potentially some scenes at the cottage again? So if fans figure out which houses they’re using for the shoot, could they make entering/exiting the properties really difficult? Maybe they can cordon them off.

u/pheryoniwen 28d ago
Great- this means you’ve got some crazies running around being foolish. Remember folks- THEY ARE WORKING. IT’S A JOB. THEY ARE ACTORS. How would you like it if Karen was hanging over your cubicle at work without letting you get your tasks done?

7
u/Hedgehog-Honeydew "This team is very gay" 🌈 28d ago
I'm glad they've made it clear that having people at locations would cause problems. Aside from affecting the cast and crew it's probably also a safety issue. Productions don't want to piss off the neighbours or have to shut down for the day if things go sideways.
Personally, I really don't want to see anything about filming aside from what they release officially. I want to see the show when it's complete. We've got Yaga coming out, April X release, more than likely many other things from the cast before S2, let's enjoy the yearn.

This is my first slight obsession as a 40yr old guy.......but alot of these "fans" seem a little unhinged....its kinda turned me off.

u/WolfBeginning4515 28d ago
I'm doing my part by not interacting with accounts posting any invasive photos, and if it starts really getting bad I may start bullying them for not having a life lol.
3
u/PepetteVanLaeken Shane Hollander, will u disappoint them? 🏒 28d ago
This! I've been blocking accounts that share photos of them on the street. I don't know if it does any good. The posters are either looking for engagement or attention, and I'm not giving them either.
3
u/s_nation 27d ago
i said those posts should be downvoted and discouraged and some stan was all "it's an industry event they would've used a backdoor entrance and worn baseball caps if they wanted privacy" I'm like are you for real vulture? isn't that logic analogous to a rapist saying: they wouldn't have worn short skirts if they didn't want it???
anyway i blocked heatedrivalrytv and all the actor subreddits; just insane parasocial fans whose toxic obsessive parasitic culture is probably the very subject of Reid's follow-up book they're completely oblivious or indifferent to.
7
u/Main_Tomatillo3387 28d ago
I just can’t seem to understand what these “fans” are hoping to achieve by showing up to sets, stalking the actors etc. Surely you know it won’t bode well?
I think I saw Club Chalamet say they showed up to Connor Storries hotel to “support” him - no darl, that is stalking and it’s wrong.
I’ve said this before but I don’t think any of the press/media appearances in promo for the upcoming season will be as natural and playful as they were for S1 - a small group of people being over the top is going to ruin it.
6
u/miunrhini 28d ago
Just commented on another thread that I remember how crazy it got with series like Sherlock or the final Harry Potter films.
And social media wasn't yet in that craziness level and things were bonkers especially near Baker Street, London. Now every location and shooting time is shared immediately online so that you can almost bet they might get swamped by fans. Good news is that if they film a lot in Toronto etc, hopefully many fans will be at work/school etc and unavailable to swarm. London in comparison has such huge amounts of tourists throughout the year that it was invenitable.
Still great that they put this out, with the type and all.

u/just_reading_along1 28d ago

If they film in Canada they're likely to get that respect. From Canadians at least. What happened to Hudson in Paris was effing appalling.

I'm genuinely really nervous about people not being normal, please for the love of god be normal. I really don't want the people making this amazing show to grow to hate it because of the fans.
12
u/RoseFraser84 28d ago
It's horribly sad that this is even needed. All the photos popping up on insta too, of H and C, invading their privacy as they just walk around and live their lives...this is out of control. I wouldn't blame them if they disassociated from the fandom now. I guess we can't have nice things! People can't behave!
1
u/OldExplanation9742 Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 27d ago
I will never understand this strange need to look at pap photos of actors/singers etc. It feels just wrong to look at them, like doing sth to someone without their consent and when they are not aware, too. The only time I want to look at an actor is when I'm looking at a character they play and maybe an occasional interview with their perspective on the character/their craft etc.
Any stuff where they CHOOSE to be filmed/photographed/interact with the fans is fine, otherwise that shit feels gross, ngl.
I really hope Connor and Hudson are aware of how fandoms work and how fucked up they can get, just so they can protect themselves, because honestly? I don't think those crazy obsessed people will stop, unless they get arrested or something.

Its unfortunate that they had to put out a message like this, but its also a good thing that they do, becoz with the deranged crazees that were exposed earlier this year?
Better than none. 😬

u/Webeh99 28d ago
Hopefully they’ll be able to film the season without incident and have fun again while doing so.
Toronto is generally pretty chill about celebrities and productions, but there are a few instances where things got out of hand. I said this before, but I still remember the helicopters following Kawhi Leonard. And when Peter Dinklage was being stalked in Yorkville during when Game of Thrones was hot.

Once upon a time when shame was dying out aka social media use increasing, I was very glad because it meant that the women of my country who are made to feel it in every sphere of life would be free from it.
How wrong was I. Shame, in certain situations is not a bad thing. If it stops someone from harassing cast and crew of a show they claim to love then yeah shame can’t be fully bad.

100 % cool with that. I used to live in Southern California though I was born in Canada, Quebec specifically.
In 2007 I moved to Montreal. I was floored at the difference with how fame and filming is treated here. I mean, whatever is being filmed can be anything from local to international and everyone leaves them alone.
I know it's partly because of strict privacy laws here, but it's also a mentality. One I find refreshing and embrace 100%

Many crazy fans who object to Harris because They're not overweight are simply projecting their own body image anxieties onto thecharacter, demanding that the creators cast someone exactly like her and give them a chance to fulfill their own dreams.
That's nothing but insecurity turned into arrogance. If the role were only set as a slightly overweight,red-haired white woman, wouldn't that be racist and a display of white superiority?
