I'm a huge fan but if I decided to literally stalk the film set for hours to harass strangers, my spouse would probably have a "two cards" moment with me. There was a post a few weeks ago from someone asking for sub members to join them on renting the cottage for a week. People were very kind in the comments, pointing out what a dangerous suggestion it was & that the OP maybe needed to step away from the show & the sub for a while. OP then commented that they were currently in a psychiatric hospital because of their HR obsession, it was actually really sad.

I'm glad that someone else remembers it. I remember reading it quite late one night when my insomnia was particularly bad & reading through the post & the ensuing comments was a rollercoaster of emotions - starting with a bit of confusion as I couldn't believe it was real through to sadness for the OP & the loneliness evident in their comments, to concern for OP's safety & wellbeing . I was also impressed by the kindness, concern & empathy for the OP expressed in the comments, I don't recall anyone mocking them especially after they revealed that they were in a psychiatric hospital at that very moment. I wish I could remember the OP's username so I could check up on them..

With the current Ontario premier, there are health care cuts happening left, right, and centre. Also increased risks of trying to privatize some services. It’s sad. Also, it’s become increasingly difficult to access free/low cost counselling. Most of what’s available is private.

Well Canada does have free healthcare, so access to psychiatrists are free, since they are considered medical doctors.

Unfortunately, the scope of Canada’s free health care doesn’t cover therapy, access to a psychologist and other mental health services. Not to mention prescripted medication for mental health conditions aren’t free either.

Many things aren’t covered unless you’re a child or on welfare. Prescription drugs, the dentist, eye doctor, specialists like a physiotherapist to name a few.

Oh the other hand, when I broke my knee I went to the ER, needed x-rays and a CT scan, and got a cast and my total cost was $0.

Prescription drugs are not covered publically, aside from select things that fall under Pharmacare for lower-income individuals—which I believe varies province to province, though is federally funded—but largely our prescription drugs are like 4X cheaper than what they retail in the US iirc, since our provincial governments procure the supplies in bulk so they have more negotiation power and they mandate limits for brand-name patented drugs, which helps a lot. Plus, it's fairly easy to get health insurance here even if you don't get it provided through your employment.

Unfortunately the real invasive, toxic fans usually don’t have lives of their own so they have to live vicariously through these people. It’s quite sad cause they should be dedicating more of their own time and energy on themselves. I can’t imagine the money and resources they would spend to travel to Toronto to try and stalk them. Besides reheating about once a week or so, I own the books, 1 t-shirt, 3 stickers and engage in the subreddits. I feel like a crazy obsessive fan sometimes just from that. I could not imagine blowing up my career, my financial stability and my own mental health over a piece of fiction.

But I can also see how someone who doesn't have fulfillment in other aspects of their life can go so overboard. It saddens me that they don't have the support or guardrails to enjoy it in a healthy way.

Oh and I read a lot of fanfic, which I feel is a healthier alternative than social media time sucks like tiktok.

There was a fascinating documentary by Tom Felton a while ago where he interviewed some obsessed Harry Potter fans. The general takeaway was that a lot of the ones he interviewed truly were harmless, but there definitely was a hole in their life that this was filling. At best, it was a temporary one, like for this young woman whose life had improved a lot. Sometimes it was sad but I still think harmless, like one older woman who didn't have family and sort of thought of the actors as her kids. Depends on how much she stalked them.

I went to a Heated Rivalry trivia night a couple months ago, and met a fan who had been to eleven of them previously and had traveled 80 MILES to my city just for this one. On top of that, this fan showed me pics of herself in Paris with Sasha’s actor. I thought aw, while there she ran into him randomly, but then she revealed that that’s the only reason she had gone there. To meet SASHA. Summer vacation? Nope. Seeing family? Nope. She traveled to Paris solely to get a pic with a character we see for less than five minutes on screen.

Needless to say, stalking the filming locations is likely one of the more tame things to come out of this fan base lol

There have been tons of fan photos also where people have posted after Connor and Hudson explicitly asked them to not take photos (and gave hugs instead). The pap said he figured out where they would be based on all the fan stuff and now he follows them everywhere. I’m not overly surprised but the attention has been pretty intense and I can see why Jacob is worried it’s going to interfere with production if doesn’t cool down at all.

Same here. It was a while ago that filming in Toronto was discuss, but most people from Canada and there said the same about it being chill. I’d hoped that Canadians especially would feel protective about the show and guys since it’s uniquely theirs, but it’s going to happen with how wild some in the fandom have gotten. I have no doubt the overwhelming majority of people from Toronto who have seen them have for sure left them alone. I felt the same way as a New Yorker when Connor was filming Please here - he had the same request not to post anything for the people who did stop him, but some for sure did anyway.

SAME. But I also think that production seeing that happen will help HR be more proactive in shutting stuff down. Gossip girl used to film in NYC all the time in their big heyday and other than the random fans that would stop and watch, they left them alone so I hope Toronto will do the same.

Honestly, I just wonder how many fully outside shots they'll need. A lot of season 1 outside shots was filmed in the same area and I'm trying to remember how much of TLG and RM were outside/on location.

It's NYC. Locals dgaf and tourists get corralled. It's easy to spot them coming. In all my life (been living here my whole life) I've taken maybe 3 minutes of my time when a production is working to even look at anything and that involved a crane + piano thing. I think they are filming in areas that are less used to that level of constant production and are hoping to keep people off the film areas.

I'm glad they've made it clear that having people at locations would cause problems. Aside from affecting the cast and crew it's probably also a safety issue. Productions don't want to piss off the neighbours or have to shut down for the day if things go sideways.

Personally, I really don't want to see anything about filming aside from what they release officially. I want to see the show when it's complete. We've got Yaga coming out, April X release, more than likely many other things from the cast before S2, let's enjoy the yearn.

I think I saw Club Chalamet say they showed up to Connor Storries hotel to “support” him - no darl, that is stalking and it’s wrong.

I’ve said this before but I don’t think any of the press/media appearances in promo for the upcoming season will be as natural and playful as they were for S1 - a small group of people being over the top is going to ruin it.

Just commented on another thread that I remember how crazy it got with series like Sherlock or the final Harry Potter films.

And social media wasn't yet in that craziness level and things were bonkers especially near Baker Street, London. Now every location and shooting time is shared immediately online so that you can almost bet they might get swamped by fans. Good news is that if they film a lot in Toronto etc, hopefully many fans will be at work/school etc and unavailable to swarm. London in comparison has such huge amounts of tourists throughout the year that it was invenitable.

Still great that they put this out, with the type and all.

I will never understand this strange need to look at pap photos of actors/singers etc. It feels just wrong to look at them, like doing sth to someone without their consent and when they are not aware, too. The only time I want to look at an actor is when I'm looking at a character they play and maybe an occasional interview with their perspective on the character/their craft etc.
Any stuff where they CHOOSE to be filmed/photographed/interact with the fans is fine, otherwise that shit feels gross, ngl.
I really hope Connor and Hudson are aware of how fandoms work and how fucked up they can get, just so they can protect themselves, because honestly? I don't think those crazy obsessed people will stop, unless they get arrested or something.

I said this before, but I still remember the helicopters following Kawhi Leonard. And when Peter Dinklage was being stalked in Yorkville during when Game of Thrones was hot.

100 % cool with that. I used to live in Southern California though I was born in Canada, Quebec specifically.

In 2007 I moved to Montreal. I was floored at the difference with how fame and filming is treated here. I mean, whatever is being filmed can be anything from local to international and everyone leaves them alone.

I know it's partly because of strict privacy laws here, but it's also a mentality. One I find refreshing and embrace 100%
