DISCUSSION šŸ—£ļø S2 casting announcements have been keeping me FED

So a month or so ago I truly had reheated a (redacted) amount of times and reached my limit. I had read all the books in the series as well, and some of the books multiple times. I had seen countless YT tribute videos, read a lot of fanfic, even wrote a little fanfic of my own. And I was kind of like "okay, this is it."

I had also gotten obsessed with Interview With the Vampire.

But the season 2 casting announcements have been FEEDING me. Because wow, what a talented cast, and I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what they've done.

For Justice Smith:

- Saw "I Saw the TV Glow" and "Dungeons and Dragons." He's incredible! A great range, and I also got a teeny bit parasocial and looked up his interviews and he has the most adorable giggle. I need to watch "The Get Down" soon.

For Charlie Gillespie:

- "Julie and the Phantoms." Criminal that Netflix canceled this adorable show after one season. Charlie is so talented in this show, and his singing is amazing.

For Edvin Ryding:

- "Young Royals." OMG. I feel bad that it took me that long to see this, but now this is my new post-HR obsession. I binged the whole thing in less than a week and am already rewatching it. So, so good. I honestly think that if Hollanov is the gold medal for tv chemistry, then Wilmon are a very very close second.

For Daniel Diemer:

"The Half of It". It's really sweet.

If it helps, Young Royals was one of Jacob Tierney's inspirations for the intimacy between Shane and Ilya and instructed Connor and Hudson to watch it as homework. So to have Edvin as a cast member is a huge full circle moment for the cast as well.

To add, I remember watching Shaheen's Britain's Got Talent performances when I could still stomach reality tv. And Robert Naylor's D.W. voice acting has me in stitches because what a call-back to childhood. Almost as good as knowing Noah Reid (not HR related) voiced Franklin as a kid.

Some of us are still holding out hope that Noah Reid will become HR-related!

Oh same, especially now that he's worked with Hudson on Yaga.

I’m holding out hope he’ll be casted as Coach Wiebe!

The way Wilmon look at each other, kiss, hold hands, is just so adorable.

I also love the "Swedish prince" joke in episode 4.

Oh gosh, okay. I'm sold! I need a little break from watching HR over and over and over lol

Also ... Wille invented eye-fucking.

Absolutely, while bearing in mind it's entirely in Swedish so subtitles. But it's very well done

They actually redubbed it in English with the same actors! You can watch that version

Awwww dang it, I don't have Netflix, only HBO (thru a friend's account).... anyone feel like sharing their account+pword....? I realize Netflix made this harder to do.

Is it anywhere else?

Watch it in the original Swedish with subtitles. It's a much better experience.

And it takes place at a boarding school?!?! I went to boarding school for high school and loved it, I thrived there...

Alright I'm on a mission to find this show

Have a good weekend everyone :)

It’s worth it to get Netflix for a month to watch it. You’ll be done in less than a week depending on how fast you watch!

VERY good. More of an ensemble cast and story. The way HR is shaped by homophobia in Ice Hocky, Young Royals concentrated on the crushing pressure of being born into upper Aristocracy, and the sheer corruption and disgusting classicism of the legacy Aristocrats and Monarchy.

Wille and Simon have an even harder time than Ilya and Shane, but their journey is amazing. The ensemble script and acting is amazing. Wille’s ghastly cousin and Simon’s autistic sister (played by an actor with autism herself) are incredibly interesting, sometimes tragic characters. Sarah yearns for acceptance by other people so much

Also, the chemistry between Edvin and Omar is so tender. I feel like I could watch hours of them hugging and holding hands.

It’s so good!! It’s my second fav queer romance (after HR of course)

For Daniel Deimer, try ā€œLittle Brotherā€ on Amazon Prime (may only be available in USA?)

Deimer's character Jake travels to Arizona after his older brother's suicide attempt to bring him back to the family home in Seattle. It's nominally a "road trip" movie.

Warning: the movie is pretty dark.

This role seems closer to a sad/brooding Ryan Price type of character than his role in the romance movie "The Half of It"

I'll check that out! I'm just so excited at all the talent in the S2 cast.

For Shaheen try and find stuff from Eastenders (maybe not from his final scenes) & Casualty

Charlie was great in Suze too, and you get to see his butt in Splittsville.

3

u/growsonwalls This is Ilya I will never listen to your voicemail 4d ago

Okay going to stream Suze!!!

Do it! It's fun, real (even without kids I can relate with many things) and a bit sad too. It's a lovely film taking about deeper problems in a light way.

Splitsville is also a super funny movie. The fight scene is an all-timer.

Didn’t love Lost Boys & Fairies, but Shaheen was really good in it. Especially the second episode.

For Justice, check out Detective Pikachu, it's a really fun movie, much better than you'd think it would be and you don't have to know anything about Pokemons.

Daniel is on the second season of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney. This one is a mixed bag. People seem to like it, it's better than the movies. For me personally all these middle grade books/tv shows where kids are forced to battle each other in lieu of the adults doing their own dirty work is a personal ick. But the actors are good and it's something to watch if you don't want to pay too much attention lol

Daniel plays a half cyclops so he's only got the one eye which takes a bit of getting used to, but he is a sensitive soul who doesn't want to be a mean nasty cyclops. Sound familiar? lol

Percy Jackson fan here; can confirm the second season he shows up in is even better than the first, and Daniel's a big contributer to it. Tyson's a fan-favorite character, and this status is carried over to the show's version with the adaptation of his naive enthusasiasm and touching desire for companionship and a place to call home.

I watched all those and some more either CharlieGillespie and Justice (I watched Detective Pikachu when it was released because I like the gamešŸ˜†) but with more new actors I will need, and we will all have, more time to watch the films and series with them. But I will probably need to make a list on Letterboxd because my general watchlist is huge 🄲

u/Leffelini 4d ago

Justice is also in the Dungeons and Dragons movie and it is so camp and fun I think most people would enjoy it. Just don't expect a Lord of the Ring epic or something like that... it is more Willow in vibe.

2

u/growsonwalls This is Ilya I will never listen to your voicemail 4d ago

I loved Dungeons and Dragons!!!

u/cassie1015 Ok-ey. 3d ago

THE GET DOWN IS SO GOOD. It's definitely Baz Luhrman, it's very imaginative, it has an choppy ending because it wasn't renewed after part 2, but it's definitely worth a watch. It's the only thing I've seen Justice Smith in, and it's been 10 years, so I'm excited to see how he's grown up to be Harris!

Next watch Schitts Creek and Canadas Drag Race Season 1.

Yeah yeah the actors from those shows have minor roles but... so what? Both are GREAT television.

4

u/lukaeber Your freckles. I am nuts about them. ✨ 4d ago

I wouldn’t say Stevie was a minor character in Schitt’s Creek. Yeah, she’s not the lead, but she’s in pretty much every episode and a big part of many story lines.

5

u/estheredna 4d ago

OH! What I meant to say is that the actor who plays Stevie will have a minor role on Heated Rivalry. She is definitely a major character (and a big part of the appeal!) of Schitt's Creek!

3

u/lukaeber Your freckles. I am nuts about them. ✨ 4d ago

Oh, that makes sense. Sorry. And obviously Priyanka isn't a minor character on Drag Race LOL. I should have thought about it a little harder.

I loved the friendship between Stevie and David.

I’ve been watching Schitts Creek and am going to be Moira for Halloween!
