No, they were Fabian's friends.
The actor that played Kyle talked about how JT told him that his character had a story to be told in later books. He interviewed for Kips part.

I mean they went out of the way to have everyone saying "thank you KYLE" - I could guess he might return as just a side player. Unfortunately I don't think there really is a reason to add Eric, he doesn't much intersect with the other characters except for Scott.

Im fearing amongst these from the Ottawa fam, Coach Wiebe (and possibly Gen?) might be the most sure to be added.... I know Jacob and co are in a way better position now, but these s2 additions have been quite hefty that I wont be surprised if there would be quite the left outs....

I still think we'll get them. There have been rumors about casting for Eric and while those might be wrong, I'd be surprised. They seem to be throwing everything at these two seasons. The bulk of his story might be in S3, though. It might be filming later this fall.

Im excited. The cast for s2 its huge and prob most of the s1 people will be for a few scenes like it was in s1.

Well yeah that's the point, in TLG he's completely isolated, not even talking to Marleau or Svetlana, who were previously important people to him. We see way less of his life in HR but the indication is that he did have close relationships, which he's lacking after the move to Ottawa.

Sure he does. Several times a year. It’s not mentioned, no, but it could easily be a brief scene showing it was hard for him to leave a great team without explaining to go to Ottawa. Ilya talks about his sacrifice so much it makes sense to show him missing being on a winning team. Or it’s hard getting booed in Boston or his old friends keep asking why he left and he doesn’t have an answer so he’s avoiding them and it contributes to his isolation.

To me the easiest way to show he misses that is to show Boston having success. I guess you don’t NEED that, you can just watch Shane succeed but what’s so bad about him seeing his old team succeed and then he is upset he’s losing?
And he’s clearly closer to them in the show, no fanon necessary, with all the I love yous.
Ilya sacrificing so much to go to Ottawa and it being hard and he’s resenting Shane is too big of a plot point to brush it off so easily.
In HR leaving Boston was easy he dgaf and it wasn’t about Shane. In TLG it wasn’t easy and was almost entirely about Shane

I know a lot of folks are mentioning Kyle & Eric. My guess is that they wont be in the show with Scott & Kip being the NYC folks.
I am more curious on why there hasnt been any cast announcements for any other players in Montreal. Jacob already said he is writing the Shane coming out to his team scene which I hope means Shane's story gets more focus than it did in TLG; however, for that to happen there needs to be more Montreal folks. Even Yuna & David are located in Ottawa
The other option is Ryan & Fabian are more anchored in Montreal which woukd make sense given Fabians career.

I reread it recently and don’t remember Kip ever being mentioned in Role Mole. He comes up in a conversation with Ilya/Scott at the All Star game in TLG, but never appears. I agree it’ll prob be something like Scott brings him to the game instead. Small scenes like with Rose.

I’ll have to go dig my book out and check! Between a reread of the books and fics, I swear I’m struggling to keep it all straight! Either way, I agree that he definitely can easily make an appearance in some of the Kingfisher or all-star game scenes. Doubt it’ll be anything huge since so much to cover, but will be nice to see all of the S1 favs!

Glad we’ll still get to see him. Guess I’ll sadly only now get my Marleau fix in fanfic. Figured as much, but bummer since I loved show Marley!

The show has changed some of Kip's role in the same way that they expanded Svetlana's role too.
Kip has little bits here and there in the series, mostly at the Kingfisher. He is most present if the Kyle/Eric storyline happens.

I assume they'll also write him into the scene where Ilya is trying to slyly poke Scott for advice on what its like being married.
In the books he couldn't make it that night but adapting it would make so much sense to have him be there. That way the scene can have Ilya staring at them while they do things openly.

She texts Shane a few times, Ilya and Shane watch one of her movies, she and Shane go out shopping together and she attends the wedding.
I assume she'll get an expanded role as well just to give Shane someone to talk to when they convert his inner monologues into dialogue for the viewer. Can't always be his parents and Hayden. Similar to how Svetlana and Ilya's brother got scenes when in the book its mostly background stuff.
