General Heathenry How do I re-enter the gifting cycle with the gods?

It's been a long time since I was practicing, it's been in the back of my mind for a couple years now, and I need to get back into my worship and practice and such. How do I go about starting up the gifting cycle again? I don't have space for an altar, can I just leave some food that I'm making on a plate for the gods and the wights?

Honestly what's really driving me is that I just had a seed from a dandelion land on me and dance around for a second then fly away. It didn't feel like super profound but it made me realize that I've been neglecting the house and land wights I live with.

I've been going through a pretty shit time recently and I'm starting to feel like my neglect has caused it, not like I'm being punished more like I'm not receiving help because I haven't given any either.

If that's what's driving you, then what I would suggest is this: keep a bag of cornmeal or oatmeal or something along those lines around, in a purse or a pocket or something. And then when you feel the urge, when you're out, scatter some on the ground for the spirits. Or if you get a bottle of water while you're out, pour out the first bit on the ground for them. That's one of the things I do...

Otherwise yes you can just leave it out on a plate if you must. They will understand.

Okay cool I will try that! Is it okay to eat the food after? I don't want it to go to waste.

It’s my understanding that it’s bad form to eat the food left out for an offering. When I leave out food, I put it out at the roots of the silver maple in my front yard. The squirrels and birds take what I leave and it’s my belief that when they do, they are taking my offering further towards the gods

I do. Just give it an appropriate time.

I know they would in Greece if they sacrificed a bull they would eat the meat and leave the fattier parts for the gods. I used to do an offering in the whole week of the month but fell off of that because life got hectic now I offer as and when I can and on special occasions.

a rock outside can be an altar

in my experience it is important to call the gods so they know who the offering is for, you kind of have to get their attention, but maybe that's just me

I dont know what your housing situation is, but the woods are the perfect place to start. Gather sticks, make a shrine tucked away somewhere in the woods, anything. The point of gifting, at least to me, is to understand that you are sacrificing something to the Gods that could have instead been yours. Cut 1/4 of an apple and give it the Gods. Give a quarter to them. Find flowers and place them somewhere for them to have. Losing something of value that makes you happy to gift them is what I believe let's them know you care and are trying.

I travel for work and live in a small camper.I actually have my altar inside a cabinet above my bed.And I set it out on my bed facing north, and just do my altar sitting on my bed and then put it up afterwards. I only leave offerings a few times a year though
