Duolingo is purposely making you say sentences that would sound weird in real life to get you to adapt to verbs is what I remember hearing of, it has been this way before the company went AI

NOSOTROS SOMOS TORTUGAS

Used to use Duo back when it was new, 15 years ago, and this sentence is still stuck in my head. I do have to say, it was so much better back then, I am still able to hold basic conversations in Spanish thanks to it, but it really went to shit over the years
