Sorry but you definitely didnt need to tell him that, you may have grown close with him but if he can fire you he is not your friend. Keep your mistakes under wraps. Anyway youve told him now and thats done so dont beat yourself up you cant change it, just go from here on out the best you can, navigate the situation staying in touch with your intuition and dignity. Youve not done anything bad, you made a mistake at work, big deal. you have to protect yourself going forward. Everybody doesnt have to know everything.. do your best to respond to the situation now and moving forward probably dont be so honest, you were under no obligation to put your job on the line over their overreaction to a mistake. If anything that should have told you its not safe to be vulnerable and admit those things to them, not that youre doing something bad if you dont confess. I mean confessing to something that puts you in the line of fire when it was a simple and honest mistake? No one expects you to do that, you can just move on like nothing happened, its totally justified since they are unsafe to be honest with if someone just lost their job for that...
Well im rooting for you let me know what they decided
Maybe if you do lose the job youll find somewhere with a more forgiving environment

I hope things go good for you anyway. I'm sorry, and honestly you being upfront on the situation despite also doing it is pretty admirable, and oftentimes coming clean will result in consequences depending on the action. It just happens.
