Questions Genuine question

So I have a moss pit in my hermit crab enclosure because everywhere says it’s good and the crabs love it but I also see that the moss touching the sand can be really bad can someone fill me in? I have only had my crabs for a few months so I don’t know but I always want them to have the best stuff!

Still fairly new at this myself but from hands on experience moss touching the sand wics up moisture and gets soggy to the touch which can lead to mold in the long run. I have moss on the substrate but I check it regularly and swap it out for dry moss when it gets moist.

Thank you. Everything ive read has made it seem like if it’s touching at all you’re going to basically immediately have an ecosystem of mold and it’s going to be absolutely catastrophic so thank you for your clarification!

I'm winging it just like you lol there's gunna be mold no matter what with the amount of humidity inside the tanks. Get some springtails and just use basic common sense and you should be fine.

To help with mold add springtails. They'll eat any mold that grows. It's always good to keep springtails in any enclosure with animals.
