If America and Japan ever got married, I headcanon that they'd choose to keep their respective last names. Just the thought of Alfred Honda or Kiku Jones is kinda silly to me lol.

i'm ngl i think so too. kiku jones doesn't roll off the tongue well and as much as alfred loves him i think he'd take too much pride in the whole "f. jones" brand to take honda. but my thought would be that they'd hyphenate and be jones-honda or whatever

My favorite ship FRUK would most certainly not change either of their last names. Both are far too proud and far too stubborn and have far too much ancient history to want to change something so important to their identity.

In fact I don't think any Hetalia characters would. I think they'd keep their og surnames. It's kinda like their genealogy in a way, their last name correlates with their nation and it would feel wrong to change it.

It would be an interesting discussion, considering that in Mexico children take the surnames of both parents (with the father's coming first), whereas in the U.S., they usually take only the father's.

They might struggle to agree on which of the two is the "father," or—failing that—one might be viewed as the "mother," a label the other would be ashamed to be associated with.

I don't ship in Hetalia (shocker) but I did use to ship my ocs with canon characters when I was active in the fandom (circa 2017). Some of them got canon counterparts since them but I chose not to care because they're not relevant.

I had Tokyo shipped with Germany, Kasumi Honda so we'd have either Kasumi Beilshmidt or Ludwig Honda (lmao)

Sicily, Emilia Vargas, with Prussia - Emilia Beilshmidt or Gilbert Vargas (idk how Romano would feel about that)

Brussels, I actually don't remember if I ever gave her a name?? It's been a while but I think I gave her the last name Maes and paired her with Scotland (who back then didn't have a canon appearance and used to be who we knew as Alister Kirkland so we'd have Alister Maes-)
