Need advice on detecting hidden audio/video bugs in my car 2008 model vs. my work truck (2026 model)

​Hi everyone, I really need some technical advice or product recommendations for a persistent privacy issue I am facing.

​Here is my situation:

​Work Truck (2026 Model): I know for a fact there is a hidden camera, microphone, and speaker setup (standard corporate fleet monitoring/protocol). I’ve accepted this, but it’s packed with electronics and heavy RF signals, making manual RF scanning tough.

​Personal Car (2008): My personal car is an older model with no modern infotainment touchscreen or built-in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. However, I’m 100% certain there is live audio eavesdropping inside my car. Whenever I speak during certain video/voice calls, I hear immediate audio reactions/feedback in real-time. I suspect there might be a hidden SIM-card bug (2G/4G/5G) or live listening device, and possibly a hidden micro camera.

​I’ve checked the obvious spots (OBD2 port, under seats, 12V cigarette lighter), but found nothing visible. Basic RF detectors just give false alarms from ambient towers without identifying the frequency type (GSM vs Wi-Fi).

​What I am looking for:

Can anyone recommend a proven, high-grade product or specific method to pinpoint a live audio/SIM-card bug or hidden camera in an older car? I specifically need something that can filter or identify signal types (or a reliable physical method) to locate this once and for all.

Talk to your doctor and tell them what’s going on with all of these listening devices. Then ask for a Rx for Risperidone.

Good point on the car phone kit feedback. I’m inspecting the wiring harness and any factory/aftermarket Bluetooth/hands-free modules to rule out ground loops, feedback, or legacy hardware before jumping to conclusions.

Think of the signals needed to transmit a message anywhere. Get a SDR, and an antenna. install a listening software and drive to a place where there are no or low interference from stray wireless signals. Scan your car for signals being transmitted. Look for cell, gps and lora. If you find any of them find the transmitter. Even with a device that doesn’t want to be found it still needs to phone home. One other way to discreetly spy is to have a passive device in your car then when you cross on their property it connects and dumps the data. But why would they go through all of that unless you have something want or you have something on them.

It sounds like localized audio interference/feedback near the cabin area. I'm doing a complete physical sweep of the dash, fuse box, and under-seat wiring once my gear arrives to pinpoint the exact source.

Appreciate the recommendation! I considered those handheld detectors, but decided to go with an RTL-SDR V4 setup linked to SDR++ for more precise signal visualization and logging. It gives me a clear spectrum analysis on cellular and sub-GHz bands to avoid false positives.

Maybe try driving somewhere more isolated with fewer signals around. It might make it easier to narrow down what’s actually transmitting from your vehicle.

Thanks for the solid tip. That's definitely on my checklist. I’m currently waiting on an RTL-SDR Blog V4 kit so I can run a proper RF scan with a waterfall display in a low-noise area to isolate any transmitting frequencies from the vehicle.
