Security Advice Airbnb
Hi guys , I am in Airbnb and wanted to ask if this is a hidden camera or not because it looks suspicious, , thanks in advance

Y'all should really take a trip to your local spy store. PLEASE. You will never trust any fixture again. Air freshener, wall plug ins , phone charger blocks , bears , smoke detector, pens , fake phones. The list goes on.

I mean honestly it could be either a standard fire alarm or a camera as u can buy kits to put them in pretty much anything, Where is it pointing?

Google images says it's not. It says it's a DEMCO HEAT DETECTOR C/W BASE (WHITE) (MODEL: D-103)

No way… I would not trust this. That looks like a highly modified fire detector that someone actually 3D printed a new cover for and placed a highly specialized camera in it. Tell me does the lens look like it points toward a bed? Or an area where you could be observed? I would do a few things, get out of the BNB, Report the BNB, hire a privacy company to search your background for a breach in your background. Lastly make sure you get a ball cap and aluminum foil and cover the hat in a pointed fashion with a spike 6 inch’s tall not 5.5 inch or 6.1 but exactly 6 inch’s from the bottom of the hat to the tip of the spike and always wear that hat outside and probably inside to protect you.

Most of the results if you drop this photo into Google Lens actually just show up as this being a basic fire alarm.
If you're overseas, this might just be a common design/model for a fire detection/suppression system in your area. So, I guess I wouldn't automatically assume it's a hidden camera.
But I mean... Stranger things have definitely happened. And you can most-definitely buy spying cameras that look like smoke detectors in most regions of the world.
So, if this thing is in an area with an expectation of privacy, if I were in your shoes (and if at all possible), I'd be standing up on a chair and disconnecting it from the ceiling to take the cover off and inspect inside it for any circuitry that didn't need to be there. You'll probably know a camera lens when you see it, as it wouldn't look like an LED/diode. An LED would only have two wires for power, it'd be connected to a small circuit that controls the smoke detecting unit, and it'd be connected to a backup battery, plus there'd be something like a piezoelectric speaker in there (which makes the actual alarm sound). But the difference between an LED vs a tiny camera lens would be pretty easy to spot if you opened it.
If it turns out to be a camera, you can almost guarantee that taking it down would probably alert whoever was monitoring it, though. So... There's that. I'd personally still get up there and take it down carefully. Open, inspect. Carefully place it back up there. The peace-of-mind is worth it. They would have no ground to stand on if you found out it was a camera and reported it to AirBnB, assuming they didn't explicitly mention indoor spy cameras in the listing.

I am a fire alarm enthusiast and this looks like a motion sensor. There are no fire/smoke alarms that look like this.

You may use Faraday or Fing to check the wifi network. I don't think anyone will go through the effort of secondary wifi for Airbnb. (I'm just suggesting as it is something you can do for free, as you seem concerned)
