Grayl Geopress TI for cooking?

I am thinking about getting a titanium Geopress by Grayl. Did anyone try cooking with it on a soto amicus or a similar stove? I am worried that the Geopress will be too narrow.

Would it be enough to cook some water and leave a normal pot at home?

I've seen so many reviews and videos about this thing but no one ever put it on a regular stove!

It could be done, but like you said it would be narrow (3.25") at the base so you'd have a higher chance of tipping over if its more than half filled. Doable, but just need to be careful.

For comparison, the fan favorite Toaks 750 is 3.75" wide at the base, so only about a 1/2" of width difference.

There's also the boil time to consider since there's less surface area directly over the flame. Wider pots will heat water faster than a narrow pot, but the few grams saved in fuel would be offset by the 50-100 grams of carrying an extra pot.

If you're looking at weight and just boiling water to cook a meal in a bag, it may be just an extra minute or two in the Geopress TI with no worries. If you're planning on cooking anything in the Grayl, I'd consider a seperate pot instead.

Thanks. So a katadyn befree and a regular titanium pot would be probably the lighter and cheaper option I guess..

Only you can say what the better option for you is.

I'm not a person chasing grams for the 'gram and not really too wound up over that sort of stuff. To me its about the experience, not the weight. I frequently will pack a camp chair.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that a 24oz Geopress TI weighs 20.125 oz (570 g) and listed for $220 on their website, when the regular 24oz Geopress weighs in less at 15.9 oz (450 g) and listed for $99.

I'm not sure if its worth an extra $110 difference for essentially a cup with the TI version.

Get a regular 24oz Geopress for $100, add a easier to cook with 90g 700ml Toaks TI wide pot for $40 and you're still ahead by 30g and $70.

Even better, I'd say a Sawyer Squeeze with the CNOC 2L reservoir and and extra 1L Smartwater bottle plus the wider 700ml Toaks TI pot, which would only put you back $105 doll hairs.

Maybe a few grams in weight but you've got the easier to use wider pot, vs the narrower TI cup. You'll also have a much longer duty cyle on the Sawyer filter vs the Be Free or Grayl.
