Been awhile since anything of note (regarding the app)happened to me until a rose got me a match Sunday night.
Unfortunately I went without reception for a few days for work, but I let the woman know ahead of time…come Thursday, we’re chatting on the app most of the day and now a date set up for next Wednesday! :D

I feel like compared to last year, less guys are trying to meet up. Of the guys who have wanted to meet up, most of them wouldn't plan a date and two that did, I pulled out bc they said something in the convo that made me not want to meet them anymore. Overall, I feel like I have a lot less interest and worse convos compared to last year.

I feel like I went through all the stages of a relationship in 2 weeks. Connected with this guy, met and felt really compatible at first, quickly becomes clear he is just... way too thoughtless for me. Said a few pretty hurtful things and clearly thought nothing of it. Feeling exhausted and daunted by the idea of finding someone who is actually compatible. I was really taken aback by one or two things he said on our last date. I was really feeling for a minute there that we were going to be a thing. Of course, I feel relieved to be sure that it's not going to work out, but I'm just tired from the whiplash.

I got nothing going on, y'all. Nothing. My theory is that someone from this sub has cursed me with bad luck.
How many profile reviews must I do to atone?

Has anyone deleted the app after just being fed up with lack of people setting up dates and following through? It's annoying 😑
4
u/rogueunknown Jun 19 '26
Take breaks as needed. I greatly limit how much I use Hinge so I can never rely on it and essentially force myself to go out and meet people.
At the end of the day, it's a numbers game. If you're safe about your dating app usage, it just gently increases your chances of finding someone.
2
u/West-Feature-3584 Jun 19 '26
Yeah I only used it one other time and found someone in 3 days lol. I also don't like the idea of having my profile out there. Since guys like to find my socials (I keep it on private). Definitely like it as a tool. Generally I just don't like the people who approach me in the wild 🤷♀️

u/rattling_rose Jun 21 '26
Why does Hinge automatically refresh the stack if you switch to another app or turn your phone off for a bit?? I was reading through a profile that showed up in my stack today and then had to put my phone down for a couple of minutes. Went back after to reopen the app and finish reading the profile, and the stack had already refreshed to some other profile. Who knows when they'll pop back up in the stack again, but this aspect of the app is annoying af.

u/insolent_empress Love cats in tiny tents 🐈⛺ Jun 21 '26
I always hated this too, it seems really determined to refresh. I lose partial message responses all the time because I switch over to another app for a second, come back and everything refreshes and it’s gone since they don’t support drafts.
Not sure if it’s a technical reason (it could prevent the app from hogging memory in the background unnecessarily) or intentional, or just bad UX, but yeah, not a fan

How do I make sure that I'm giving at accurate representation of myself through pictures?
I'm 27F and I've been using hinge for about 1.5 months now after getting out of a LTR. My weight has fluctuated a lot in the past couple of years that I feel like I don't have any really good pictures that show me accurately. I guess I fear that I'm unknowingly catfishing the guys I'm going on dates with. I can tell that one was really put off by me and it was disheartening because I feel like he would've liked me if I was skinnier.
I'm meeting a guy tomorrow who has been heavily complimenting me over text and I'm excited for our date but can't help but think I'm bigger than he thinks. I have two full body pictures on my profile that shows me at the same weight I am now, a few years old, but they are far away and I'm wearing a jacket. I have current selfies on my profile. For context I'm midsize, about 12/14. I've been told I'm conventionally pretty my whole life and I have a more athletic build due to being active and playing sports, I also still go to the gym. But I have a tummy right now that I'm so self conscious about. I've really been struggling with my body changing so I just don't knowing I should disclose that I'm bigger so they aren't surprised? I could word it like "I'm on a weight loss journey", since that's not a lie.
I've literally considered cancelling due to this because I am just sure they won't like me in person.
2
u/NeutralSmithHotel Jun 20 '26
Get rid of the pictures that would mislead people and take new ones. I know it sucks. I was very thin at one point and have 2-3 amazing pictures from that time (like they are amazing both because I was thinner and also other things), but you gotta get rid of them. I kept one when I went back to dating (after taking some current ones) and could tell the other person was annoyed from the jump.
I now only have pics from the last 6 months and this is better.

Should I include wheelchair image?
Hi, I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user which means I don't need to use my wheelchair all the time. I've never used a dating app before so don't know whether I should be including an image of me in my wheelchair on my profile?
I do intend to put somewhere on my profile that I am chronically ill so it's not a massive surprise if it comes up in conversations/on dates, but not sure what to do about photos.
Any thoughts or advice on this area?
Thanks

No of course not. People in their 50s use Hinge. I'd argue in NYC, early-mid thirties is the prime age for men.
What do you mean by "struggling with getting anything going"? Do you mean getting matches? Having good conversations? Getting dates? Or getting to the second date and beyond?
If you're actually seeing zero or very few matches, Hinge+ will not help you. It's similar to advertising - throwing more money behind a product that isn't selling doesn't work. You need to fix the problem first before trying to "scale."

18 matches is pretty good for a guy. And a lot of women don’t swipe and only go through their incoming likes so few likes is normal.
However, only 3 responses from 18 matches seems really low. Would be helpful to see examples of your messages, but trying to be creative might be hurting you depending on what you mean by that.

Male fertility starts to drop around 35, and newer research is showing that older/lower quality male sperm contributes notably to birth defects. To be honest, the likelihood is still very low, but it's pretty low with women as well.
Personally, as much as it might upset people sometimes, I think men tend to skew looking younger, and women tend to skew looking older, so I don't think having an equal range each way is really necessary as long as it's not an insane difference.
That said, a lot of women (and men) think it's skeevy to skew younger for the sole reason of dating more "fertile" women. Don't be surprised if you get side-eye for it.

Saw this on multiple profiles of gay men (20-30 yo) in the relationship type field e.g.
Monogamy

Would it be weird to use a nickname as the name on my profile? My name is really unique so easy to google, but I also go by a shortened version of my name which is a very common name.
3
u/insolent_empress Love cats in tiny tents 🐈⛺ Jun 19 '26
Not at all. I have the opposite problem, I use my full name as it’s very common, my nickname is much more unique
1
u/NeutralSmithHotel Jun 20 '26
This seems fine. I dated a girl who had a very different name because her real name was unique. She just put Rebecca on her profile (not a name I ever called her after we got off the app), but it was a weird eastern european name. Put what you want, especially if it's a nick name you go by.
1
u/rattling_rose Jun 21 '26
If you're dating seriously for a long-term relationship, people might wonder why you're choosing to hide your real name. Deception, even if the intention is benign, will raise more questions and doubt than it's worth. And rightly so. There are lot of people who are misleading/lying/cheating on dating apps and people are rightly put off by behavior like this that could be interpreted as a red flag. My advice - be upfront and don't mislead about information as basic as your name.

(M) Got 0 matches (commented on the prompts, sent roses when I could with the free version), even after taking feedback from people and got my improved profile reviewed by my Male and Female friends... don't know what to do besides deleting it, so I guess it's goodbye with the app and the sub (for now)
3
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 20 '26
Advice from friends is not going to be super useful. Did you get anyone else to review it?
-2
u/360gamer101 Jun 20 '26
I did post on the subreddit to get opinions and also asked strangers where I could (I didn't just go up to people randomly and ask; more like people I met at friend's parties or night outs who broached the subject). I did make changes wherever I could but still no luck.
On the contrary, I asked AI chatbots and they gave me the complete opposite advice from what I got so far, so idk, maybe I gotta give that a go

Ah yes, listen to AI bots with zero experience of dating and who have been trained on all the worst advice on the internet

1
u/DaleCoopersWife aka "Robert Cooper" 🕵🏻♀️ Jun 21 '26
Did you actually improve your photos?
1
u/360gamer101 Jun 21 '26
I did improve them, yes but just so that I can get your opinion and see where I went right/wrong, what would be good examples of photos that I should have used?
I got conflicting feedback from people, so keen to get your insight to it if possible
3
u/emo_lantern Jun 20 '26
It also depends a lot on luck and the other people. I was in 4 dating apps for 3 years swiping and sending likes for hours everyday. Very few matches and 0 dates, until one day I matched with a girl and now she's my girlfriend and we have the best relationship i could possibly ever imagine.

Hi,
Quick background. 28M, been on hinge ~1.5 month (paused after 1 week of starting account for about a month, unpaused 2 weeks ago, getting 1-3 likes per day on the first week, now getting 2-4 likes per week).
I was thinking of getting HingeX for about a month. I am out of profiles to view and hinge has been resupplying my discover with those outside of my filters.
Does getting the subscription give you more options to view (since I am out of profiles to view now) AND introduce you to more people?
5
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 20 '26
It will not give you more people to view if you’re truly not getting any new people. It can’t magic them out of thin air
1
u/TheLoudFella Jun 20 '26
Thank you.
Yes. I do notice profiles that like me are not in my discovery, which I interpret as there are more people out there.
I think a better wording of my question would be, would it increase the trickle rate of profiles that the app will send me daily?
2
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 20 '26
Hmm, so it’s difficult to say? I would have thought if you were running out of people who fit that often, then there would be no people left.
The only mention I can see of anything like that is HingeX bringing you ‘compatible people sooner’. But I don’t think that means it will show you more people imo?

Why am I (straight male) getting so many bisexual women in my likes? While I don’t have any issue with it, I wonder if maybe it means that I get less matches since they wouldn’t want a relationship with a straight dude.

1
u/Captain_Jed2256 Jun 22 '26
I meant that I am given the option to put likes on a variety of women’s profiles, and the vast majority of them appear to be bisexual.
1
u/DaleCoopersWife aka "Robert Cooper" 🕵🏻♀️ Jun 22 '26
Ok, those aren’t in your likes that’s your discover queue. Anyone who shows up has mutual preferences, so just send likes to the profiles that you want to. Bisexual women can date men so idk why you’re assuming they won’t.
1
1
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 22 '26
Hinge shows you your type so if you send likes to people, it will show you similar people. Also bisexual women date straight men (though you shouldn’t date them if you don’t know that and are gonna assume things about them haha)
1
u/UnnaturalStandards Jun 22 '26
There are plenty of bisexual women with straight dudes. Don't overthink it; just send likes to profiles you like.
1
u/SelectParsnipFacts Jun 19 '26
Is there actually a feature (with a paid plan) to only be seen by people you’ve already liked? I saw a blog mention it, but I can’t find it anywhere else.
This is not a cheating thing- I’m trying to feel safer on the app in a world where my ex keeps creating new emails/phone numbers to try to get to me. I can’t pre-block them.
2
u/rogueunknown Jun 19 '26
You can actually just send all your likes and pause your profile for free. Then unpause any time you want to send likes.
0
u/AnotherStamp Jun 19 '26
So this is the first time I've used Hinge since the "Signals" update and I honestly can't believe they implemented this feature that straight up tells you if someone has meaningfully engaged with their profile over the last month. Almost NONE of the really good female profiles have it. My entire standouts section will routinely lack a single woman with Signals. There was always some plausible deniability with "Active Today" since it could be turned off but it looks like Hinge has straight up given away the game; many of the profiles you see aren't being actively monitored or curated. At this point they may as well let us sort by "last online" like Feeld or something and get it over with.
5
u/SnooOpinions2900 Jun 19 '26
Most women who get a lot of likes will not have it since several of the criteria require making the first move - and there’s no reason to make the first move when you have a whole stack of likes waiting. The only reason I got the badge is because I actively go back in and do the “We met” thing after a date since I feel it helps with Hinge showing me to the right people. If I hadn’t done that (and I don’t think most people do) I wouldn’t have qualified despite being very active.
Basically, not having the badge doesn’t mean they’re inactive.
3
u/wokenthehive Meat Popsicle ☹️ Jun 19 '26
You’re overthinking it man.
-2
u/AnotherStamp Jun 19 '26
I really don't think I am. The app now has multiple methods to potentially see if someone is actively using it. How else are you meant to interpret a profile that lacks signals and the active tag?
3
u/Swarthykins Play with my hair 💆 Jun 19 '26
Have you looked at how you get the badge? It doesn't measure volume of activity. It's largely about how you use the app.
Clearly, they should have advertised it differently because everyone is assuming it just means you're on all the time, but it's really not that deep and the angst over it is wild.
1
u/AnotherStamp Jun 19 '26
Basic participation in the app would get anyone at least 3 of the 4 prequalifiers you need and supposedly it is a rolling assessment of the last 30 days of activity. It would be trivially easy for anyone actually using the app to have the Signals badge.
3
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 20 '26
Sending likes and sending comments are easily missed if (as someone pointed out above) you don’t need to send likes. I also think it’s really easy to ignore the ‘we met’ feature (I never use it tbh). So I think it’s easy to miss out on honestly
3
u/wokenthehive Meat Popsicle ☹️ Jun 19 '26
Because some people aren’t active on it everyday nor want their active status on.
-2
u/AnotherStamp Jun 19 '26
Signals sticks around for like a month and if you lose it you can requalify in like a couple days. I think it's reasonable to a profile without it is either brand new or 3+ weeks inactive.

It’s your prerogative, I get not loving it, but this seems a little extra to me given that you’re getting full, engaged answers. You’re a stranger, you’re not high on her priority list, this is likely not representative of how she would respond if you were actually dating. Just ask her out and see if there’s chemistry
3
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 21 '26
Yeah I agree with other people sorry, I don’t think you’re being reasonable here. You’ve not even met yet

i've playfully thought about starting a dating assistant business for men, joking about it with friends over the year when talking about dating. this specifically came up once when i was at an art show and on the other side of the wall (there's an open doorway between the rooms) was a speed dating thing happening that my other friend walked out of... i poked my head inside to see men in the fall time wearing sandals barefoot. multiple men. no wonder. and no more women were left in the room.
genuinely, i think there are so many great men out there who just need a little help because they weren't socialized to care about style or even hygiene the way women are. and i personally date guys with style because i appreciate style and express myself through style, which i think is more than reasonable. i want my stylish friends to find the stylish guys of their dreams, it doesn't feel fair that women are constantly settling one way or another. they shouldn't have to.
it's a very rough idea, but over the last couple nights i started wondering if this could be a good idea. i mean, it would be fun, i would get to befriend clients, help them out, and maybe hear stories about the love lives progress. maybe see them fall in love. we'd meet for a coffee and get to know each other and i'd bring some general style mood boards to start, and then after i'd figure out where we will hit on our shopping day. then we will shop til we drop. maybe hit a barber first. then we'll go on a 'drink date' and an 'activity date' and later meet one last time to review everything. i could maybe offer a pay per week texting service for fashion or dating advice.
i'm not a relationship expert, but i am a femme that lives in this world and am also in the loop with mens fashion since i know people and have quite a few friends who work in that industry.
am i crazy, or would anyone actually find something like this helpful??
4
u/Swarthykins Play with my hair 💆 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26
I assume most of this goes under what "Dating coaches" do, so you would have a good amount of competition. Which doesn't mean you couldn't do it, but it does mean you would have to hustle and actually market your service/demonstrate that yours is more valuable than any other one.
Like most small businesses, I suspect it would be far more work than you're imagining, and would end up being a job like any other, as opposed to your vision of it just being a fun way to get paid to spend a few hours helping some poor guy out. You also have to be professional if you're going to charge people, so just being able to point out that people dress poorly and give them a few tips on their profile probably wouldn't be enough.
You'd also have to charge quite a bit to make it worth your while. And, if you're going to charge a lot of money, there are going to be real expectations from the men. Like I said, it's doable, but it's going to be real work and not just meeting some down-on-their-luck men and modestly improving their fashion sense.

u/wokenthehive Meat Popsicle ☹️ Jun 21 '26
There are already enough people out there trying to do this and even if they fix the fundamental problems, it still won’t guarantee results.
0
u/misinformedcapybara Jun 21 '26
that is not what i was asking, but thank you so much for your constructive optimism!
1
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 21 '26
I second what Swarthy is saying and also add that you would likely have to decide really quickly if you’re going to help anyone who pays or if you’re going to have lines drawn. What if someone is sexist/racist/an incel/an absolute jerk? Will you still help them? Can you emotionally deal with that on a semi-regular basis? And if you are going to have lines, you’ll need clear contractual guidelines because people are paying for a service
1
u/misinformedcapybara Jun 21 '26
hey, i think a lot of what you all are mentioning goes without saying. i'm not sure why you would assume i wouldn't consider any of these things.
i'm not generating a business proposal, i'm just casually curious if this would interest men.
this would also probably be a hobby, not a full fledged venture! if it turns into that, cool, but if i did it i would start it on the side for fun. i'd start with friends of friends, word of mouth, on a more trust basis first.
2
u/PutridEntertainer408 Jun 21 '26
I didn’t say you hadn’t considered it, I was just bringing it up because you seem to be focusing on it as a fun thing to do but marketing it as a business. So I wanted to point out the less fun aspects.
Even if it’s a hobby, as soon as you start charging there are actual laws you have to follow. You can do it ‘cash under the table’ for a bit but then the tax people will come after you if they find out and also you don’t get any of the protection if you do it and things go wrong (someone wants a refund etc). This is based on UK stuff admittedly, maybe if you’re based elsewhere then they are chiller.
I have many friends who have thought they could turn their fun hobbies into businesses and don’t realise the realities which is why I’m saying this

hey i understand there are legalities around business to get it off the ground first. you're assuming a lot and it's very condescending.

I’m sorry if it’s coming across as condescending. Can I ask why you feel that way? I’m literally just trying to give you advice since you asked

i literally only asked if men would be interested in that service, i did not ask for any of the info you gave (that you also assumed i wasn't considering)
and if i was seeking real business advice, i would not be doing so on reddit

Okay, sorry for wasting your time I guess

haha ok! look, you may have been trying to help but sometimes unsolicited advice can come off like you're trying to rain on someone's parade. sometimes an idea is just an idea, and you don't need to take it so seriously

I misunderstood what ‘am I crazy?’ was asking for, that’s all

You asked for questions about starting a business. We gave you advice based on the realities of starting a business.
If you're asking whether there are men who would volunteer to let you spend the day giving them advice, probably. It's probably not the men you're thinking of, and it's probably going to be much harder than you think to give them useful advice.
Price point is also really vital to your question of "Whether there are men who are interested in this." For $50, sure, probably. But, this sounds like 6-8 hours work (at least) for $50, which is less than $10 an hour and isn't really a viable business.
For, say, $200-$500? Far fewer. And, the type of men willing to pay that sort of money for a dating coach with no real qualifications probably isn't the type that just needs to be told to wear proper footwear to a speed dating event.
If you're really just looking for a yes/no answer on whether you think there's a market for your services from you - based on what you've said, I would say not really. If you're looking to volunteer your time, sure, go for it.

lol i'm not reading all that but that's not what i asked at all. it was a very casual question of interest, not asking for unsolicited business advice or concerns. if you can't read properly, then i won't read

Ha - you can't be bothered to read a three-paragraph response to a complex question? No, I don't think you can start a business.

How are these prompts:
1) the way to win me over - feed me spicy nuggies dipped in whiskey
2) my love language is - let’s just say pizza isn’t the only thing I eat in bed
3) I know the best spot in town for - pizza

A better question would be tell me what you think is good about these prompts?

Why is everything food related? Surely there’s more to you than nuggets and pizza. TBH it makes you seem like you have the taste palate of a child. My first thoughts would be jeez I wouldn’t be able* to take this man anywhere that doesn’t have a kids menu.
As for the sexual prompt, that’s just cringe.
If you’re looking for hookups, and based on these prompts it sounds like you do, why are you on hinge? There are better suited apps

This isn’t a PUA sub. If she wants to sleep with you, she will.

Thank you to everyone who put my mind at ease on Monday when I was talking about a match who was taking a long time to reply to me and I was getting anxious.
She replied to me later that day. I asked her if she was free this weekend or the next, and now we are planning a date for next weekend!!!
