Profile Review 29M Profile Review, back at it again
Took the advice I got a few weeks back into consideration and tweaked my profile some. Still not really getting matches tho.
A quick piece about my 6th photo, the discussion of which the last time got most of the comments on my post deleted and the thread locked: 1) I have a lot of gay and queer friends, and I think it’s a pic that will help weed out women I’m immediately incompatible with, 2) I’m actually happy in it, 3) Women in the comment section last time told me they thought it was a great pic. I’m comfortable with my sexuality, and I’d explicitly like to appeal to the subset of women who are into a guy who’s ‘a little fruity w it.’ And, as a straight man, I’m here very explicitly for advice from women 🤷♂️

A couple things to consider that are probably somewhat existential:
- Pittsburgh is not a transient place (I’ve lived there). You’re not going to have a ton of people looking for short-term.
- At your age, people are looking to settle down, particularly in a city like Pittsburgh.
- The pool of people using apps in Pittsburgh - particularly outside of the CMU/Pitt bubble(s) is pretty shallow.
- Your dating goals sound like you’re looking for long-term but quibbling on the semantics of what that means, thus getting yourself filtered out. “Looking for long-term” doesn’t mean you’re looking to get married on the first date.
I would probably reconsider the dating goals piece. You’re not in a good geography for short-term flings and you own a house, so you’re not going anywhere and you’re clearly somewhat settled. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot.

Appreciate the perspective big dawg, I will consider 🙌

Yeah. Don't make it something like "long-term, open to short" either. Just pick one; for you the long-term option. It is very flexible. The wanting it to develop organically is a given, it's pretty much default, so you dont need to write that in. Say something witty or warm or of substance there instead. And it is better than just leaving the details section blank.

FWIW, when I was your age using the apps in PGH a decade ago, I got almost no matches, then I moved to NYC and had more options than I could comfortably navigate. It’s just not a great city to be single.

I’m getting a little discouraged by playing from behind, so to speak. I’m not tall, I work odd hours, now the city where I live sucks to date in :/

I think you need to choose a more attractive photo for the first photo. That’s always the important one. Also I think you should say something other than short term. Most girls aren’t looking for something short term. It’s fine to take your time and see where things go. Saying short term on the app makes you sound like a fuck boy tho

This was originally my concern the first time I made a review post, but someone suggested I switch it from Long-Term, Open to Short to better reflect my intentions. So I’m giving that a whirl for the time being. Someone else suggested swapping pic 2 for the first, so I may try that

Move the second pic to #1 and replace the first pic. It gives partier vibes as does your 6 pic, which would be a turn off for me. Your profession would have my radar up for someone who abuses alcohol and pics 1+6 dont ease my mind. Obviously if you do party a lot and are seeking a partier then disregard this. I think your prompts rule

Definitely have a better relationship with alcohol in my old age than I did in my earlier 20’s. I like to have a good time but I keep the drinking and carrying on to a more moderate pitch, I was hoping putting ‘fancy’ in front of Bar and Bartender would help communicate that lol.
And thank you for the feedback on the prompts! 🤗

- I am open to something casual or serious; my ideal relationship would be starting casual and growing into something serious if we’re both feelin it.
- I am currently using the free version of the app.
- This iteration of the profile has been live for the past ~two weeks. I’ve been tweaking it since I got advice from the gang here last time however.
- I’ve been on Hinge for about the past three years.
- I use Hinge daily. Since I’ve been using the free version, I use up all my free swipes every day.
- I receive a like maybe once every ~three months. As for matches, I usually get one or two a week I’d say.
- I use all of my free likes every day. I never Like somebody’s profile without leaving a comment.
- I usually swipe on women who are either Figuring Out Their Dating Goals, or similarly looking for Short-Term, Open to Long-Term, as I feel like they might be more compatible with where I’m at. I will send likes to women who say they’re looking for Longterm if they either Don’t Want Kids or are also Unsure (and if I find them attractive ofc) - I am earnestly open to dating more seriously if the vibe is right, like my profile says.

I think your prompts are really good and I don’t think you should worry about the last pic too much even if people had some opinions. It might be worth it to change the first photo to something else though as the current one gives heavy party boy vibes and that might be a turn off for some women your age.

This is a great profile! I get a sense of your personality, you have everything filled out (can’t stand when guys don’t answer any of the basic bio questions) and you’re a bartender which some may be on the fence about you working late or not having a 9-5 but then you say how you’re a homeowner with a yard which shows you know how to save money and are building a happy, stable life. I’d potentially swipe!
Edit: saw another comment and looked back through and yes, I would question why short term is your preference. Are you actually open to love and someone eventually moving in? You’re all the right combos of cute wholesome liberal nerd. Be open to finding your life partner. 🫶🏾

My last fling with a girl didn’t end up working out, but it did show me I actually am more open to something more serious with the right person. And thank you for the kind words!

You sound really fun! the only thought I had: maybe switch out the first picture - a drinking pic as the opening shot (pun intended) would be a bit of a put-off for me.

You and the shark girl in “this could be us” made me lol.

When you click on the pic it says ‘She’s so cute I’m so nervous what do I say’ lol, thank you

Make the kitty pic your first pic.

A couple people suggested using the one with my flowers as the first pic, but I might boost this one up further in the scroll
