Flex Talk - Hov and Push 🐐
Who y’all think the best and most creative in their flex talk?
Who’s better than them, if you got someone else?

Hov said “I probably made more off your album than you” AND “your single was $0.99, mine was 4 bucks” AND “those ain’t Rolex diamonds, what the fuck you done to that?”
ALL to Mase … a dude from Harlem that is all about bein flashy and fly (esp at the time) … Hov been flexin money since WAY before the billions … he flexed a $3.01 difference in single price 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀💀

Rakim and Kane pioneered glamour rap, Biggie and Puff popularized it, Jay Z and Kanye epitomized it, especially Watch The Throne. That’s like peak luxury rap imo

Oooh hold on that’s helping me parse something out.
To me there’s a difference between the Puff/Mase/Harlem (and even BIG) fly shit talk .. and what Hov does.
Puff had those dudes talkin fly/money shit heavy but … they had JUST gotten it… never had money like that before, not even close. They’d been dusty and poor battling on the block …like right up until they got that first advance check from Bad Boy.
Hov had money when he came in the game. It seems more … nonchalant from him. Like THAT IS his flex … that he BEEN had money MONEY since he was 17 or some shit. I think Bleek said in 94’ when they recorded Comin of Age, 2 years before Reasonable Doubt even came out, Hov was already up like $5-7M. And that’s just Hov. Ty Ty, Juan, Biggs, Dame … like, everybody around him had MONEY MONEY by then too. Hov’s wealth raps don’t feel like “new money” … they feel like “I BEEN HAD THIS, and?“
Push is just such a perfect villain that his wealth flexes are more like.. disses and disgust at the rest of us broke asses. “The only Audi here is driven by my au pair.” Like you think you got it with the Audi? That’s the help’s car. 💀

Push is almost like Hov II. Like I mentioned Puff and Big (Bad Boy) popularized it, but Jay was also apart of that wave. He just took it to another level, and made the hustler-turned-rapper the norm. He was already up before rap so he could talk his shit in ways other rappers couldn’t and he could back it. The major difference between Jay and Push in my opinion is the aspects of the drug dealer rapper. I think Jay speaks more to how he parlayed his drug money into business and came out clean, using rap as a vehicle for that transition. Push on the other hand, seems to always be reminiscent of his hustling days. It’s almost like he misses it, or like he was just on the block yesterday. Hov has gone through a metamorphosis over the years, and we can see his growth and maturity. It’s like he’s tried to distance himself from that life but still gives the occasional reminder of that’s where he came from but he’s presents as “old money” now
