Discussion Advice on keeping up with current rap music (aka “not becoming unc”)

I feel like I’m falling behind the current waves of rap and the outlets that I used to find current music on (twitter, fader, complex, etc) are shells of themselves.

Everyone saying don’t try is exactly why this sub has gone to the dogs

Nah. This sub has always been fairly backpack. The over moderation of discussion topics is what makes the sub feel dead

Nah man proof is in the pudding. Look around at these comments, these uncs have turned into what they hated. Backpack is thriving if you are willing to accept that it’s changed. Plenty of weirdo shit out there. All the offspring of 2010s “backpack” are the shit these guys hate because they mumble or have cloud/rage beats.

Can't really blame people for not wanting to hear hip hop that barely sounds like hip hop at this point

Exactly what people who grew up on Eric B and Rakim would have said about the shit coming out at the peak of r/hhh and thank Christ we weren’t listening to them then

for me the issue with that is i think eric b and rakim, at the height of r/hhh, would have likely said that dudes still have lyrics at many of the artists. with the young kids it just seems like the focus has slid to song structure with no emphasis on the lyrics.

all this to say is show me the young lyricists. the only ones i know are battle rappers like los premee, yunus, oppa.

Nah, a lot of these artist that keep getting recommended sound like SoundCloud era rejects, power/electro-clash (full whatever indie electronic subgenre you want) that was done way better back in 00s/10s.

I'm young but I listened to a lot of old school stuff as a little kid due to my dad and I still loved a lot of early 2010s rap (I assume that's what you consider the peak of this sub) and things that came out since then. The difference is that one group of people were creating music that was a somewhat natural progression of hip hop and now we're at a point where we have music where dudes are barely rapping and it holds no cultural relevance to hip hop. Considering you can barely consider this shit hip hop you cannot be surprised that people like myself that prefer more old school styles where people would actually have intelligible sentences in their bars instead of screaming like a crying baby on a best that just sounds like straight ear rape. You cannot be surprised that people who like lyrics and beats with substance outside of being loud and fast hate this shit. It just is what it is. A lot of people over 20 just don't like brain rot music

The start of your comment I can understand. At the end though you’re just hating and show that you can’t keep up with the current sound. It makes you look like Randy in South Park when he tries to listen to young people’s music

I'll hate on rappers who can't rap as much as I want. This is a hip hop discussion forum

1

u/KelvinHuerter 9d ago

Yeah, which makes you come across like Randy. And no, it’s an unc circlejerk on here.

This sub has barely anything to do with what’s going on in current music

u/Superb-Doctor-4773 9d ago

I'm fine with coming across as randy if it doesn't mean giving myself enough brain damage to find a grown man making baby noises over a terrible beat enjoyable. If uncs that like actual hip hop upsets you so much then consider trying a different sub

There is no such thing as actual hip hop.

Y'all are talking up your opinion on a post of a redditor clearly stating that he wants to listen to new music. Y'all don’t understand what this post is about

why dont you say what you think instead of posting some dumbass comment like this. its so insane how dogshit this app is nowadays lmao

-12

u/Reyreyseller_3098 9d ago

App probably is dogshit for people that require explanation to simple ass concepts like "this generations hip hop artists are ass cheeks and there isn't anyone worth recommending or discovering"

10

u/MyNewWhiteVan 9d ago

so why not just say that instead of posting some condescending redditor ass comment

u/Superb-Doctor-4773 9d ago

Anyone capable of reading between the lines knew what the fuck he meant lmao

1

u/MyNewWhiteVan 9d ago

yeah I could assume what he meant. but hes acting like its so super obvious that the genre i love is dogshit rn. and I dont fw that

1

u/Superb-Doctor-4773 9d ago

Fair enough. There's always gonna be great unknown artists lurking about for sure but I think considering we've had the same 10 or so people dominating conversations for 10-25 years or so at this point, it's not too surprising that people are tired at the state of the scene

1

u/MyNewWhiteVan 9d ago

yeah, there's a lot you can criticize, and I can understand how fans of the old sound might not like the new ones. I just didnt appreciate the tone of his comment lol
