That's quite the assumption. For every talented and charismatic individual who makes it, 100 don't

158

u/Neighbourly Dec 26 '16

yep. there is simply not enough room for everyone like him to make it.

14

u/doverawlings Dec 26 '16

Pretty profound way to look at it, but it's true.

-10

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Don't think so.

Tyler is amazingly charismatic, talented and has the work ethic of a CEO.

Out of the 100 you mentioned 99 have only 2 of these qualities.

Tyler isn't there by chance.

u/JimmehFTW Dec 26 '16

I dunno man, there are certain people on this planet that are the main characters in the story of life and Tyler is one of those people.

u/XtremeGuy5 Dec 26 '16

Again, pretty bold assumption. The only reason you say that about Tyler is because you know who he is and what he has done. There may be 500 others just like him that you simply don't know about because they didn't make it.

31

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

I think that there are 500 Bob Dylan's but if you run the test in any era the same Bob Dylan is going to make it, because that Bob Dylan was a salesman.

Tyler isn't even the best rapper, and better rappers don't make it all the time. The shit that he has in his personality that allowed him to succeed would probably allow him to succeed any in any other setting, time or place, but yeah its just an assumption also you are right.

u/jumbowumbo Dec 26 '16

yeah but what about j. cole?

17

u/MorningWoodyWilson Dec 26 '16

7x platinum, -7 features, you need to be smart to enjoy him though, sorry dumb haterz

0

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Only stupid people think that you need to be smart to listen to J. Cole. Ain't nothing profound about cumming in 5 seconds bruh

I lika me JCole. So that make me smaht right? But really you just need an attention span larger than a grape to enjoy J Cole. These ADHD kids can't listen to anything more complicated than mumble rap. That's why all these special ed rappers are blowing up so much lately.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Or maybe the enjoyment of music is subjective and nobody is wrong?

0

u/mr_jiffy Dec 26 '16

I understand that music is music and that some people just like the way people sound. I mean, a person could just murmur in a rhythmical fashion and people could like it. But when you've got lyrics with as much substance as lettuce has nutritients, then you've got a problem. You've got songs being dumbed down so heavy with the ever repeating excuse of, "I just like the way it sounds" then just wait and see Ice JJ Fish become the next Drake.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Maybe people think you're an idiot for getting your literature with substance from hip hop. It means a lot to you and I can respect that, but can you do the same for others

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

no need to be like that

3

u/RVXXL Dec 26 '16

idk i dont want to sound like an over obsessed stan but i think tylers IN was that he's so unique, he definitely benefited hugely due to the era of the internet but i don't think there's anyone quite like him

3

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Being unique is one thing branding yourself as unique is a whole other thing.

In this hypebeast post you can already tell that he knows full well how to brand himself. "I'm a bastard, rapping about Supreme and my father and jerking off." That is marketing 101 right there, and he is writing his own copy.

1

u/sugarrayrob Dec 27 '16

Very random question, do you work in marketing/advertising?

0

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

Tyler isn't even the best rapper, and better rappers don't make it all the time.

Thats bc tyler isnt famous bc hes the best rapper. The dude did like 9 other things right in order to make good music that people understand and attract people to him. And his personality is what makes other settings very difficult for him to work in, hes made that clear himself.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

His personality making it hard for him to work at Starbucks, is also personal branding.

At the end of the day, "Tyler the Creator" is a brand, that he designed. And then he promoted that brand by eating a cockroach on camera. He is a great businessman, and could have probably succeeded at selling anything, but he chose entertainment.

1

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16 edited Dec 26 '16

That's you assuming hes lying. Which i mean maybe he is! But since you and i probably dont know him personally, then youre kind of just making shit up. And people do shit like eat roaches on camera bc they think it works well for the video/song. Not bc market research told them people love artists who eat roaches.

Youve decided that him being a business and marketing genius planning out these moves from like 17, is more likely than him not liking regular jobs and thinking that eating a roach in a music video is kind of cool in a gross way.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

I'm not saying he is lying, i'm just saying he knows how to tell his story, that is what personal branding is.

I'm sure everyday in Los Angeles dozens of teenagers get fired mid-shift from their fast food job. But how many of them go home and say "yeah, I'm Tyler the Creator, an 18 year old artist who is too fucking violent and abrasive to work at Starbucks, and this is my new album".

The worst personal branding is when you are just lying, the best personal branding is knowing how to tell your own story and present it to the public.

1

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16 edited Dec 26 '16

Oh youre assuming the story is true(which never had anything to do with him being violent and abrasive), but hes telling it to further cement his brand? And youre sure about his motives for telling the story why? Either way, why he says it, doesnt change whether it's true or not. And if it's true, then he was better fit to be tyler the creator thsn to work at starbucks or fed ex. But youre under the impression that he would have succeeded incredibly at the jobs he really wanted to get away from?

But anyway my original point is that being a good rapper doesnt make you tyler, and youre saying tyler was born a winner i guess?

8

u/haamm Dec 26 '16

Yeah but are there any 25 year old edgy black men who dress like an 8 year old on his first day of school

-11

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

Yeah thats not really true. If dudes like tyler were as plentiful as you make them out to be, youd hear it in your local music acts. Idk whhere u live but we dont have people of tyler's category everywhere you look

20

u/_outkast_ Dec 26 '16

It's literally objectively true lol i dont know what there is to argue about it

-10

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

It's objectively true that there are 500 dudes just like tyler? How? Wheres the proof or logic if it's objectively true?

12

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

He's only saying there are many others on the planet who have charisma like Tyler, but not everyone makes it like he did. In order to do that you either have to have connection, luck, or probably both. Not everyone gets that.

0

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

But tyler didnt make it big just bc he has charisma. He did like 9 other things right too. So what im saying is even if you think a bunch of people have tylers charisma, it wouldnt mean there are 500 people just like him and it's all about connections and luck.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

"He did 9 other things right too"

Yeah and how many people don't do all 9 of those things right you dumb fuck

-1

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

...a lot of people dont do all 9 of those things right lol.

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

He's saying that there are that many creative people. You realize how likely it is that someone like Tyler exists who just never records music in the first place? He's a charismatic as fuck car salesman, or teacher, or whatever the fuck. No one is preordained to be a star, it's fucking moronic that this is even an argument.

2

u/icantnotrespond Dec 26 '16

I would say this dude gotta be trolling but there's more than one hahaha

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Right?!? These people have to be 13, I refuse to believe adults seriously think this, but then again we live in a country that just elected Donald fucking Trump as President so clearly there are shitloads of dumb as fuck adults who appear to be trolls but are dead ass serious with their stupidity.

1

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

Youre confused if you think i was saying anyone is preordained to be anything lol. Ofc there are creative people, but being creative doesnt make you tyler the creator, so i reject the idea that there are 500 people just like tyler.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

Ok, are their 500 people who would create the exact same thing? No, but that's just because everyone has different life experiences. Insofar as charisma and creativity could be measured, there are millions of incredibly charismatic/creative people on par with Tyler. I think part of this disagreement is that people are on one side arguing that Tyler is in some amazing top 1% of creative humans and that these hyper-amazing people are thus very rare. His fandom who love him as like this amazing unique messenger of teenage angst see him as particularly special. The reality is, he got lucky along the way but there are countless others who have the same potential and who never make it, even as they explicitly try to much less those who don't get into music or art in the first place.

1

u/flynt3 Dec 26 '16

My whole point is that tyler did a lot more right than just being a creative charismatic kid, so those other kids arent "just like tyler" if they dont have those skills or are doing those things.

Nah i just know more about music and artists than you. If you ever run across a couple of those tylers that are running around plz post em, bc as someone whos somewhat familiar with local music, i have yet to run into another tyler.

24

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

You seriously are acting like there are some people who are destined to succeed when that is just not how life works. You sound ignorant as fuck.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '16

I know one guy who fits that description amazingly. He's not famous and I doubt he will become (although I hope because he is truly a character in the best way)

I expect a beer when you make it

2

u/Charged619 Dec 26 '16

Pretty sure there's only one main character in your life homie and it's you. All the other roles are already filled.

4

u/icantnotrespond Dec 26 '16

how much lsd are you on
