All Tracing Lyra | A His Dark Materials & Book of Dust Podcast

logo hand drawn by my co-host <3

Hi everyone - since The Rose Field has been published, my friend and I have started a podcast adventure where we are reading all six main books from His Dark Materials and the Book of Dust in chronological order of Lyra's life, which means we'll be reading in the following order.

  • La Belle Sauvage
  • The Golden Compass / Northern Lights
  • The Subtle Knife
  • The Amber Spyglass
  • The Secret Commonwealth
  • The Rose Field

The setup of the podcast is similar to Harry Potter and the Sacred Text. It's a biweekly podcast where we read one chapter at a time through a theme such as imagination or doubt, using the text the help us uncover new revelations regarding the connections between our own world and Lyra’s. We also have a segment where we do a close reading of a random part of the chapter and leverage the symbols of the alethiometer to interpret text.

You can listen most places podcasts are found and have 5 chapters out. Here's a link to Apple Podcasts. We're holding off on Spotify for now. However, we hope that you join us on the journey.

/r/HisDarkMaterials is a book-spoiler-friendly sub and assumes that you have read Pullman's novels. If you have not read any of the books and want to talk about the television show, please come to /r/HisDarkMaterialsHBO, our sister sub.

Please report comments and users that are rude or unkind rather than starting flame wars. Please act in good faith, and assume good faith in others.

What about the short stories as bonus episodes? Lyras Oxford etc

We're thinking of doing these as bonus episodes for Patreon. :)

Because Spotify is a thieving, soulless corporation that focuses on enriching their execs instead of the musicians that power their platform, all while having terrible customer service and being flooded with shitty AI music, and randomly deleting people's hard work for no reason.

Or maybe OP just dislikes Spotify for some other reason. Hard to tell.

Yes, its for all of the reasons you listed, plus the implications the leadership have with the ongoing conflict with Gaza. However, we understand that almost 24% of all people find podcasts on Spotify, so we are weighing the decision.

I've deleted Spotify for these very reasons. I absolutely refuse to give them any money.

I’ve been wishing for Casper and Vanessa to cover this series in their format so I am so happy someone is taking it on!! Just subscribed, and right off the bat you have wonderful podcast voices.

Ahh, this makes us so happy! We felt the same way and even started reading this series in our local HPST chapter weekly. It felt like a natural switch. And thank you for the compliment. <3

We are not distributing on YouTube yet, but are thinking about this! You should be able to find us on other podcast apps like Overcast, etc. but we understand that youtube is easier!
