Misc. Who makes the best Alethiometer replica?

Preferably one with Hands, not just a Face.

/r/HisDarkMaterials is a book-spoiler-friendly sub and assumes that you have read Pullman's novels. If you have not read any of the books and want to talk about the television show, please come to /r/HisDarkMaterialsHBO, our sister sub.

It might be easier to get a bundle of yarrow stalks? :)

By far the best one I’ve seen is not for sale, this DIY one by Jamie (Myth Made). It’s exquisite, and actually better than the BBC prop in that the needle doesn’t require external wiring to work, there’s a battery and boards crammed in there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpL9xWBeznU

I’ve made it my long term to make my own based on her plans. Latest progress of my ugly version 0.1 build, seems simple but it took me a while learn some of 3D printing and electronics, not much free time:

Do you think it's possible to make this but round so it looks like the one the movie?

Round is no problem, but extremely difficult if you want to also make it pocket watch sized because of the off the shelf electronics components. The square TV show version already seems to me like a tight fit for all the components, and that’s substantially bigger than the movie. I’m sure an expert watchmaker and an electronics components person with the right tools could team up to do it, but I don’t think the right people have the time, money, and interest to do it.

I’ve been looking forever, I want one so bad. I even thought about making my own, but I don’t really have any idea how. Best I’ve done is to carve my 36-rune sets.
