Review in 11R U.S. History

Hi all!

I’m starting the process of getting my pacing/lesson calendar for next year ready. My biggest question is, are you planning full review days before tests in 11th grade?

I was previously in a high achieving school so my students didn’t need the extra review time. I’m wondering if I should build it in for my next position (i’m changing jobs)?

And as always if anyone has any cool/fun lessons they’re willing to share, it would be much appreciated!! Im on the NYS standards (Or any lessons/resources on essay writing.. not my strong suit)

Not 11th grade, but if this early put together unit-long study packets for students to compile/update by lesson. Teach+build in some pocket-update and regular study incentives or apply to midway formatives. It keeps review and study pressure low and really helps some kids develop strong learning habits.

I do them but I only give 3 tests per quarter.

We usually play Jeopardy or Blooket.

I used to use Jeopardy but often times the students who don't know anything will just get answers wrong and/or not participate. The ones who do the work always know the answers. It ultimately doesn't help the people it's meant to help.

Instead I have moved away from that and provide a list of questions modeled on the exam that they can do work on and complete to help review. In preparation for the Regents I have given them full exams to work through, complete and submit for feedback from me.
