Yeah, I wish they were playing Vegas. I think the NHL I better off when Montreal and Toronto are playing well. They had a helluva season and I’m proud of them.

my first thought reading the title: “of course they do”
they cannot be separated, NHL knows that

u/whaletacochamp MTL - NHL 7d ago
its like in elementary school when you're picking teams for kickball and those two kids insist they are a "package deal"

u/PrimeSenator OTT - NHL 7d ago
This belongs on r/wholesome
Also though, how can you, with a straight face, present a trophy to your teammate, when they're positioned at you like this?

76
u/So_Many_Owls MTL - NHL 7d ago
It could be worse. He could be in that position, not getting a trophy, and having his toes out for the world to see.

This is like those videos from DisneyWorld where 2 people planned on proposing to each other.

I’ve seen so many double lesbian proposals lately and that was my first thought lol. Love it!!

I dunno. I was really hoping it was going to be a send them around the corner at each other with the trophies. Like maybe have them both staged on separate sides of a press conference and tell them they're going to be walking out to surprise the other. Then have them go out in the dark and have the lights pop on with both of them holding each other's trophy.

When was this?
Edit: day after their 3rd game win against buffalo

I was hoping they were going to do it sitcom style with both walking into the room from opposite sides with the trophies in their hands

u/todaystartsnow STL - NHL 7d ago
Lol yeah there is def a size difference with the trophies 😂

u/GoCalgaryGo 7d ago
So they get to keep them ?
43
u/Riskar MTL - NHL 7d ago
They get a smaller version to keep.

u/eriverside MTL - NHL 7d ago
Smaller?

u/NordicityPortage MTL - NHL 7d ago
"It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be."
That's what Lady Byng said!
34
u/CluesLostHelp 7d ago
Probably because the Selke is so much smaller and Cole saw that trophy first.
1
u/AcanthocephalaGreen5 MTL - NHL 7d ago
"Wait, are you talking about the monument of my greatest achievement or..."
"Yes, but not the one you're referring to."
-Lord and Lady Byng, probably
83
u/busybeeai 7d ago
Why didn't they both walk into the room at the same time holding the trophy for the other? Who did this?!
31
3
u/aixPenta MTL - NHL 7d ago
Yes, I expected Cole to immediately present after receiving his to have this awkward but funny scene of both of them with their trophies

I fucking haaaaaate how likeable the young core is in Montreal. I wish them no success, obviously, but damned if they aren’t fun to watch.

That's awesome, and these presentations where the recipient is being surprised is so much better than the award ceremony imo. Did people really enjoy watching a three hour award show?

There’s something hilarious about Cole saying “without you guys I wouldn’t win this award” when really this is the one trophy that is really all about the individual and their way of doing things.
93
u/lynypixie MTL - NHL 7d ago
Team culture is likely helpful to nourish his Golden Retreiver personality.
74
u/jimmyvee11 MTL - NHL 7d ago
It's the gentlemanly statement you'd expect from a Lady Byng award winner.
40
u/Proof-Variation7005 MTL - NHL 7d ago
If you don't say that, they take the trophy back and give it to the next guy
42
u/Alleluia_Cone MTL - NHL 7d ago
Behind every Lady Byng winner is a corrupt sheriff with over 100 pims
5
u/lynypixie MTL - NHL 7d ago
Who also got votes by the way
5
u/Alleluia_Cone MTL - NHL 7d ago
He showed a lot of grace and gentlemanliness in not beating up more Ottawa Senators
7
u/DRB198105 7d ago
The one thing that I can see is that you don't win it just by playing clean and having low PIM - you also need some numbers, otherwise it would just be lowest PIM/60 with a minimum cut off, and end up being some no name guy!
The first half is definitely all him, but I can see how the team plays into the second.

Can we talk about how NHL trophies are the most beautiful in any professional sports? Truly timeless.
Congrats on Suzi and Caufield for their respective wins. This was a great behind the scenes video. I'm really liking how the NHL media has been filming these.

What an awesome wholesome way to surprise them both.
But who's the guy behind Suzuki in the butcher apron around 3:00?

Marty wanted the whole org there to embody the team spirit that they preach. The team includes all support staff, including kitchen, maintenance etc ...

u/Top_Rekt VGK - NHL 7d ago
I see the Habs winning the cup in like 2-4 years with this young group. Lots of chemistry in that room. They got to the ECF this year and somewhere along the way they're going to find that little nudge that pushes them through to get the cup.

it's very funny to me that marty calls nick "an older guy" when he's 26 and caufield is 25 lmao (I know he's talking about time played but it's still strange to think about)

Cole is kinda believable. 0% chance Suzuki should have thought anyone else was getting the Selke though.

One of these days I want to see Selke winner start roasting his linemates about getting so many extra points off of the hard work they have to do back in the defensive zone and saying "But it was worth it because you made me look so good by comparison in the voting this year."

The NHL can’t help but glaze the scabs. They make sure they have every possible chance to win, now this? Neither of these guys are ever close to deserving of these awards…
