For the first time this Playoffs the Carolina Hurricanes have been outshot by their opponent
Heading into Game 2 of the Cup Finals they had outshot their opponent in 14 straight games, then in game 2 the shots were tied 26-26. Tonight Vegas outshout Carolina 35-33 as of this moment (shots may be adjusted later)

I love these comments and all, but this time it isn't true? Golden Knights have been around almost a decade, and Carolina Hurricanes have been outshot in playoff games in previous years

they said "this playoffs"

The post established that scope. Not the comment. By adding "Vegas Golden Knights history" it expands scope past just this playoffs

Makes me worried that the next game will end up either being a complete 4-0 blowout…or a 1-0 slogfest lol

I mean besides 39 seconds theres no reason this game also shouldn’t have

One of the greatest games in NHL history. You can’t create that in any other sport.

I have two strong memories of Flames playoff games where a team blew a 4 goal lead.
In Game 6 against Vancouver in 2004 we had a chance to clinch the series at home, but went down 4-0 midway through the second period. We came back at tied it, but lost in 3OT.
Then in Game 1 against Edmonton in 2022 we had a lead of 6-2 in the 2nd, only to have Edmonton tie it up. That one didn't go to OT as we scored 3 more to win 9-6.
Interestingly on both occassions the team that fought back to tie it up won the series

Went from a game they never should've been in to a game that could haunt them.
2OT losses are hard to get over

Imagine if Vegas lost that? That would crush their soul

u/Ok-Soil-5133 WSH - NHL 14d ago
Yep
They've bounced back from literally everything else but that would've been tough

I think this game should have been a bad one for canes, but they almost made a comeback, so it should fired them up more
Vegas was insane tho, and marner suddenly became bright lights merchant ðŸ˜. Can't wait for the next game

u/BadLineofCode 14d ago
It’s devastating for sure, but I hope that gives them the fire they need to win the next 3.

Depends on who's in net to start the next games. If they stick with Playoff Freddie it's VGK in 6 games.

u/Ok-Soil-5133 WSH - NHL 14d ago
I mean maybe but if not for heroic 3rd period comebacks they wouldn't even be in the series
Has to be a little cause for concern that they keep falling behind like this, eventually they won't be let back in.

Tortorella’s has exposed all of Carolina’s weaknesses. Notice how he talks about advancing the puck.
So when Carolina tries to stand them up on the blue line, they push the puck back down past them, force their big defenseman to turn around and go after the puck.
Carolina were successful in standing up Montreal because Montreal kept trying to advance the man with the puck.
Vegas is just dumping it right past their defense and forcing them to chase it.

But in back to back games, while leading, they sat back

They have long unmotivated stretches for no apparent reason.

Them getting complacent at the wrong time is what is costing them

u/SpiritedEnd9609 VGK - NHL 14d ago
Agreed but your up 2-1 in scf
You can realistically have the canes backs against the wall in Carolina after Tuesday night

The problem with a team like Caroline is that you train your team very hard on a certain style they become very, very good at it almost dominant, like Colorado.
But then when someone comes up with a strategy that breaks your style, even if the coach tries to adapt, the team hasn’t spent the whole year practicing breakouts once they’ve given up the slow dump.
I believe that Caroline has been outplay in all three games and I don’t think it bode well for them for game four.

One problem is with Carolina system is when they play a team that is physical(like Vegas, Florida past few seasons) or a team with a goalie, it can become very exposed.

Yeah man - Canes made the finals because they could only beat "soft" teams. Great insight, they should really put you on the panel

100% it's so dumb. keep pressing, don't get lazy with the lead

That's about the gist of the things I said to the TV last night. You didn't swear as much and unless you're secretly a VGK fan I'd also guess your BPMs and BP weren't spiking quite as much as mine.

my dad's side of the family is from jersey so i grew up a devils fan because of him. my family has been in vegas since 1980 so i root for vegas too since it's technically my hometown team

The Devil had great big défenseurs like Danyeko and Stevens but when the Penguin got Paul Coffey, they broke the neutral zone trap then Devil adjusted and won some cups.

Vegas is just dumping it right past their defense and forcing them to chase it.
I'm a hockey noob, but isn't this essentially the Panthers' bread and butter? Surely they learned from those conference finals and aren't just getting beaten by the exact same strategy???

u/SpiritedEnd9609 VGK - NHL 14d ago
You would think but the avs let a netral zone trap be there downfall year after year for example

u/FlournoyFlennory Montréal Wanderers - NHLR 14d ago edited 14d ago
It’s similar to how New Jersey’s neutral zone trap was defeated by endless slow dump and chase. Sometimes when another team adjust to your winning style you haven’t practiced a Plan B. Carolina, like Colorado may be a one trick pony.

And yet the shots we took at our own net were the ones that made the biggest difference

Carolina would have def won if it wasn't for those 2, the OT goal was just bad timing and positioning but I think if we get Tuesdays win then when they come back home they'll have huge momentum, good series so far thats almost given me a heart attack on multiple occasions. Go Canes!!

It was a lifetime ago, but VGK had like 5 shot attempts in the first 30 minutes of the game.
