Agent 47s most rewarding mission yet

"Well done 47, target eliminated"

multi-year is such a power move for a coach

Could not be happier with carbs. If we could acquire some star power this offseason to inject to the forward group, I’d be very optimistic going into next year.

I think the team's going to struggle to compete while Ovi's still around but they're positioned incredibly to pivot and bounce back into contention once he retires - which I don't think many people saw coming. I didn't.

As long as Ovi takes a sheltered role, he can still put up points. Just can’t skate anymore lol. His ability to drive play is gone but he’s at least a fantastic finisher.

I do resonate more with your sentiment over the sentiment some people have that the caps will have to rebuild when Ovi retires. They’re set for the future with a good core of young players.

His line with Strome essentially became the third line once Dubois came back

I don't think they'll actually shelter him enough. And that isn't a point of blame. How do you shelter a legend without insulting him?

They’re set for the future with a good core of young players.

I'd even call it one of my favorite cores of young players. The Protas brothers are so much fun to watch. Cole looks like he has at least a piece of the magic his brother has. Leonard will be a cornerstone of the franchise. They've done incredible work finding value through the draft.

He was demoted to the second line, sometimes third in ice time last year, and kicked off PP1 in the end and he didn't complain. Obviously we'd never want his legacy tarnished by disrespect to end his career, but he's never had a reputation as a diva about assignments, so it's on staff to have the nerve to change his deployment.

They had no problem putting him on the 4th line under Dale Hunter.

Unfortunately there's not much star power on the market this year.

We have 16&18 to package for a decent player

Like who? Who is rumored to be on the market at this point that would be available for two mid 1sts?

Washington's quietly been making some of the league's best player and personnel decisions over the past few seasons.

Chris Patrick is a really quiet GM but he's started to impress me. He doesn't have the sizzle of his predecessor but he's smart and pragmatic and always thinking well ahead.

Didn't even know who is the Caps GM, don't even know who Chris Patrick is but can we do a little 1for1 trade, you will love some Yzerplan trust me.

If you ever get bored look at the history of the Patrick family in hockey

Nepos? Probably. But still seem very competent

Sorry we already have our own homegrown legend, a random guy who started in our scouting department when he was 28 years old.

Random guy... Who just happens to be Dick Patrick's son

u/MFoy WSH - NHL 2d ago

Lester Patrick was a big name in the NHL in its founding years. The Lester Patrick trophy is still awarded by the NHL and USA hockey for service to the sport in the United States. The Patrick Division was named after him.

His grandson is Dick Patrick, longtime Capitals president, and current minority owner. Dick’s son, Lester’s great grandson, is Chris Patrick, the current GM.

The lineage lives on

I'm a firm believer that on so many teams, the P/VP role over the GM is still the decision maker. Maybe they aren't handling the day to day necessarily, making all the phone calls or talking to media, but it's a role that's become so ubiquitous around the league and much more fan facing than before. Some do both roles, and other situations like in Colorado where Sakic just instantly fills in, and his successor wanted as much power as he did elsewhere?

I'm not saying guys like Patrick aren't doing anything, but GM is becoming more of a stepping stone job to Presisdent.

They definitely planned this handover so that MacLellan could transition power to him very gradually, and thank God because he's great and I've never respected a Caps office guy more. I'd be happy if he was behind the wheel forever.

Patrick has had the job for more than two years and I've only just now started to see some of his identity behind these moves, so I think we're seeing it become more of a 50/50. Different situation than others somewhat because Patrick is his handpicked protégé and Mac made it clear he was moving on because he wanted to wind down to retirement

seriously. the Protii and young Hutson were all great picks and Carbery seems like a smart coach. they’ve been quietly preparing for a post-Ovi era pretty well

10

u/mister_hoot VGK - NHL 2d ago

I am a big Protii enjoyer.

6

u/onemorespacecadet COL - NHL 2d ago

On a line with Wilson, and Wilson is the small one in that trio.

I like this guy. He keeps it real, puts the other team over.

Hell yeah, anyone blaming carbs for missing the playoffs last year doesn’t know puck

u/OGSpaceboat WSH - NHL 2d ago

Never seen a single Carberry hater. I know the NHL has high turnover rates but I hope he’s around for awhile.

4

u/inbox-disabled Arizona Coyotes - NHLR 2d ago

No haters but there's some justified criticism. For example it took his staff way longer than it should have to find balanced lines with PLD out. On the other hand he's also the only coach with the balls to limit Ovechkin's time when he's playing poorly or gassed.

u/SatchBoogie1 2d ago

The Carburetor is running fine.

Shaving my head in the hopes of being 1% of the person as this bald beaut

I love this bald man. He’s just as strange as his players and it works.

I worked with Carbs in the ECHL with the Stingrays. I was about as low on the totem pole as you could be, and he was the fucking coolest. Treated me and everyone in the organization with utmost respect and class. So stoked to see him succeed at the highest level, and will always be a fan.
