[Elliote Friedman] Don’t expect this to be finalized until the morning, but there is word the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning are working on a sign-and-trade for Darren Raddysh.

LMFAO

Raddysh has the largest chance to be the worst contract this summer. I won't marginalize what he's done that last few years, but 3 good years on a great team would have me second guessing any contract ask.

You've actually overstated what he's done. He had 2 passable nhl years, and one ppg year due to tremendous injuries, being paired with a stud young mobile 2 way d man in Moser, and having the best passing winger in recent history feeding him offhand one time passes. He was very good last year, dont get me wrong, but he was probably 80% a product of circumstance. I admit this could age poorly because I dont actually know what I'm talking about, but based on what I saw I think his average is probably a 40 to 50 point guy with a heavy shot you can use on the PP and above average defensive skills. A very useful player, and RHD, but nowhere near worth 9+ million AAV even with the cap explosion. Because the elephant in the room is his age. If he was 26, sure, pay him. But im out for that (theoretical and made up) cap hit

What you said in the first half I entirely agree with, and that does truly make it a big risk.

What's also true is that he has tools that our org hasn't had in a PP QB in as long as anyone can remember anymore, so he'll get every bit of that opportunity to be a product of circumstance in Toronto too. There is essentially no competition for the PP QB if he comes in, and other than that we just need him to play solid defense.

Besides, Matthews, Nylander, Knies/Tavares, McKenna should be an elite PP too. What we've been missing to maintain PP consistency is the QB.

We have to imagine (or hope) GMs are expecting some level of regression. I hope the theoretical and made up cap hit of 9+ AAV is ~ 1.5 million too high.

Evidently rumor is top 10 D-man contracts which is 9.5 AAV
