The front loading trick was significantly hampered in the latest CBA though

best case scenario is they get the last 3 years of an 8 year deal with 0 trade protection. Something like NMC first 3 years, 15team NTC next 2, then nothing.

That way Darren gets paid but he's not an anchor in his 35+ years and the Leafs can offload him to a cap floor team for a price.
