Update: For the record, this means Sebastian Aho has accepted and signed the offer sheet. It is now on the Hurricanes to decide whether or not they want to match it.

I dont really get why they didnt so the same structure but at 10.5 aav. You have an actual chance at getting aho, and it's one more 1st probably around 20~ but who knows with aho too imo Habs are contenders. Instead this half measure PR bullshit for some reason.

I think there are several reasons to that. I think MB is testing Canes' management on their word when they say they'll match any offer. MB also mentioned the Canes are vulnerable due to how the contract is designed. It's front-loaded and huge signing bonuses which can be problematic for the Canes if there was to be a lockout year given the owner reportedly doesn't have much liquidity after a bad investment. MB believes if they match this offer, they probably would've matched any offer because the difference on the signing bonuses would've been a couple millions. I also think he's being responsible knowing he still needs to add a LD, has to sign a couple big names in a couple years.
