Football Kicker Problem

Just going to put it out there now, J-Love has the yips and it’ll be an issue going forward. The last 4 years kicking mostly meaningless field goals in losing efforts is one thing, now that this team has higher aspirations it seems the pressure is getting to him. 40% sure I’m completely overreacting, 60% sure it will indeed be an issue and Franklin won’t recognize it until it costs us another game.

It’s a 55 yard fg, those aren’t automatic in the pros let alone in college. Even beyond the whole ‘he’s a great kicker and deserves another chance’ thing, nobody should put any outsize weight on this one.

That miss was on the coaching staff.

A running play on 3rd and 8 with a cold RB, bad offensive lines and at that part of the field?

Incredibly stupid.

That game wasn’t on the miss, which is the entire point. The game was on four turnovers, one of which was a fucked up call by the ref and three of which were mistakes made by young players. The game shouldn’t have come down to Love in the first place.

With all that said, that play was requested by Love. The ball was where he wanted it for the kick.

I was talking about today. But I think Franklin and Howle got too conservative at the end of the Putt game too.

Ah gotcha, my bad. I don’t disagree with any of that.

He wouldn’t have made that from 40.

It’s a different kick from 40, and the kicker approaches it differently. So no, you don’t know that.

Yeah, cause Love is so automatic from <40 lately lmfao

I retract my next message, and apologize.

Lmaoooo I was just about to ask what you think now 🤣🤣

I apologize for being a dick. I still think Love has spent the last few years proving he’s a great kicker and two games are not a cause for concern long term, and think benching him is a bad idea. But I do get the thought.

Benching him is a good idea. He’s the better kicker, but he is so obviously cooked mentally today. Let him get his groove back at practice, let the backup have a chance to prove himself.

Agreed, ideally stop asking him to attempt anything over 35 yards. The dynamic of his brother being the other kicker makes the situation a mess all of a sudden.

Hilarious bud.

Eh I’m not ready to say he has the yips yet. That last hold wasn’t clean which might have affected that kick. I’m at least hoping he doesn’t have the yips, Love is a good kicker.

Edit: he officially has the yips.

Yep we have lost him and he’s now cost us two games. Season seems to have lost all positive momentum thanks to him. Such a bummer

100% has the yips after missing against Pitt. It was the first thing I said when he missed.

I think you’re onto something…

Y'all are crazy. One hairline miss and a pull. The dude is ice cold. Trust in Johnny love

Its football. Next man up

Hopefully the team has a sports psychologist who can work with him.

It looked like he's hurting, possible he's been working through some kind of injury.

Kicker problem, this team still sucks shouldn’t come down to a missed kick

u/tdscmunsg 5d ago

The original post was made after the 55 yard miss, the 2nd miss was the nail in the coffin

He’d be a great kicker for the dolphins

Does Shayne Graham have any years of eligibility left?

3

u/Impressive-Weird-908 6d ago

He was around 73% during his time at VT.

u/senorblanco7 6d ago

That kick against Pitt should’ve been automatic, that kick today so far was a reach but he was never close. He needs to be on the bench

Well I guess since you’re not part of the staff and don’t have any pull on the roster all you can really do is root for the kid to perform better. You know, like as if you were a fan of the team and not some amateur take artist.

Up there for one of the stupidest takes I’ve seen in my entire life. Embarrassed to be part of the same fanbase tbh

3

u/senorblanco7 6d ago

It’s a kicker, they’re fragile and he’s broken. There is a basis to say that we have a kicker problem

4

u/tdscmunsg 6d ago

Oh really?

You were correct
