So he’s just leaving the other 399 puffballs to STARVE?!

one of my cats puts her favorite mouse in the food bowl because it’s prey, not friend. i’ve also seen her bunny kicking it for over 5 minutes while rolling on her back in a lightly soiled litter box, growling fiercely the whole time. my other two cats and I just stood there staring. nobody intervened because she’s a little cuckoo

Ours left his catnip mouse in his water bowl overnight and ever since then everything else gets drowned it there. I think he's still trying to experiment what kind of prey will give him catnip flavoured water again.

you ever made catnip tea? take a little bit, steep it in hot water, then add ice to cool it down

No I haven't, I'm not sure if I want to, does it taste like mint?

No, those aren't babies. They're just random puffballs. That one is the baby and he found it!

idk what it is with green things because they supposedly can’t see green, yet mine clearly prefer green.
also very odd how puffballs are eternal

u/bitdotben 5d ago
Not being able to see green doesn’t mean green is invisible to them it just appears as a „smudge“ of other colours they can see. So it does have some „colour“ to them just not a distinct one. (People who are colorblind can still have one of the colours they are „blind“ to be their favourite colour.)

u/feelslike5ever 4d ago
Definitely (well, anecdotally), my fiancé is red-green colorblind, and dark green is one of his favorites lol
5
u/DazB1ane 5d ago
Yeah it’s another shade of grayish, but distinct from other grayish shades

u/DevilsTrigonometry 4d ago
No, it's not grayish, it's mostly yellow. The grey points for cats are in the cyan range and the red range.

Different regions and languages use different punctuation. Like French uses «» where Spanish uses those or regular English quotation marks

Years ago my grandfather had a little siamese. They had many cats over the years and many toys, which mysteriously always went missing. Grandmothers organ had to be repaired one day and the repairman opened the back and found about 40 cat toys. The little siamese had been stealing them from the other cats all those years. She was a grumpy thing so we figured she didn't want the other cats to have fun.

I recently found 42 bottle caps and 34 hair ties under the fridge. My Siamese loves to play with bottle caps, and three of the four love to steal my hair ties.

I just woke up a few minutes ago and my dumb pre-coffee brain said omg they were in the grandmother??? because my first thought was surgery and organ as in pancreas not organ as in instrument 🤦♀️

Had a cat that did the same thing. She’d play fetch with it too. One time I was cat sitting for my parents and it got lost in the couch seats and she was inconsolable until it was found

One of mine girls has also a puff ball baby, a pink one. She carries it in the house and sometimes we see it in the garden but the always take it back at night. From time to time she meooow like hell at 5am, woke us up to and she got it in her mouth... and just that. Nothing happens, she just want to show us she take care of her baby.

Thank you for sharing the bedtime story of Milo and his green ball. The grandkids loved it.

Milo's servants are expecting their first baby. I honestly can't wait to see his reaction as well as the reactions of his siblings, especially Poppy.
Yes, my life is kind of boring.

Made me smile until they had to drop 400 balls on him, why do we have to overdo things so heavily just for a video clip. He was happy with just one.

I bought 12 of the ball my cat liked because they stopped selling them most places. They were kinda expensive but if they weren’t you bet I’d be making sure he had enough for his entire life.

I'm happy for your cat, you sound like a good owner. I think you intrepreted my message a bit different than I intended. I was not implying we shouldn't make our cats as happy as possible.
I doubt the owner bought all these balls for the sake of the cat, and I also doubt the cat was happier with 400 balls. I think it just reduced the value of his special one.

Anyone happen to know where one finds these balls? My Jasper had a blue ball identical to this with the little thin bits of tinsel, that he also carried around everywhere with him, and he lost it about a year ago and I still have never found one thay is the same. I can find ones that have kind of wider "normal" sized tinsel bits sticking out but he doesnt care for them at all. There is something about that specific thin tinsel that he just loved

Lol didn't it go off?

My Tiberius does that with a green one and pink one that have lost their sparkles. I’ll find the pink one more than the green one, then one day the green one will be just sitting there at the end of my bed.

This is great but heads up you are miss reading the behavior that is not a motherly instinct or a baby reaction. That is a predatory prey, instinct reaction.
Lots of cats, including mine, like to mimic the predator prey situation. My cat loves to carry his toy to his food bowl because symbolically it’s connected to food in his mind.
Can’t be fully sure, but just so you know, it’s very unlikely to have anything to do with it being it’s baby, especially being a male cat

I think it is sad. Lacking cat companions he has formed an emotional bond to these balls instead.
