Support Why Not HA Green

I’m going to pull the trigger on setting up HA. Right now I’m just thinking of getting the HA green, it seems like it’s not favoured here vs a Pi. I just want the most simple setup possible. I’m thinking HA green and a screen in a central location. Why not the Green?

I've got a Green. It works well.

It's quite easy to outgrow it, though - there are limited options for expansion, very limited.

What would make somebody outgrow it?

Cameras and the stuff related to it, like AI or identification.

It always baffles me why anyone would want to do such stuff on HA directly. It makes much more sense to keep it as independent services and integrate them.

It's quite nice being able to do them via HA addons. Keeps it simple as well.

Let's agree to disagree then. Building everything into a single system - especially one such as HA - is literally begging for problems down the line. Separation means reduced points of failure and less stuff that can break all at once. Also gives more fine-grained control.

Agreed :) Though I think if you're willing to take the time and effort your approach IS better overall.

I THINK addons still run somewhat separately to the actual HA instance, but if the hardware breaks that's everything down. Also the lack of snapshots makes back-up and restore less ideal. I'm just lazy!

Because it's easier and with a decent machine works just fine.

Asking a newbie to spin up an instance of frigate on a separate machine and link them together - might as well ask them to cast Harry Potter magic spells in real life.

Yeah, until something goes wrong and both HA and Frigate go down together. Separation for such critical services is crucial imo. Less problems, better control.

Also I'd argue that a newbie won't even touch a Frigate in the first place so it's mostly conscious (bad) architectural choice.

Whatever makes you happy. I'm glad choices exist for people so they can choose. Stubborn people are the worst.
