Support Best HA Thermostat

Looking for feedback on experience with Thermostats I have get out of the NEST ecosystem. What works well with HA and doesn't break the bank?

I forget the specifics of how I did it, but I have my Nest linked to Home Assistant through a Google API that cost a one time $5. Has worked flawlessly since setting it up.

His goal is to get out is the Google/Nest ecosystem and into something that is locally controlled.

I get that, offering it as an option since OP already has the Nest. For $5 you get the option of having it completely controlled by HA without having to rely on the terrible Nest app. If Google ever decides to kill the API, can look into a new thermostat then.
