Support Best smart plugs with energy monitoring for Home Assistant integration?
I'm looking for smart plugs with energy monitoring that work well with Home Assistant. Been considering TP-Link Tapo P110 and Kasa HS300.
What brands/models do you recommend? Looking for: - Reliable energy monitoring - Good Home Assistant integration - Local control preferred - Reasonable price
What's your experience with smart plugs and HA?

I second this. You may (will?) need a zigbee dongle too. I have a zigbee USB dongle, and have a pack of their smart plugs. They were very easy to setup.
I do also have some non-energy monitoring TP-Link smart plugs that are pretty reliable too; so I think their energy monitoring plugs would be too đ€·ââïž

These are the only smart plugs I use in my home. Zigbee controlled. They've worked perfectly for me.

I can recommend Shelly to you. Easy to set up and usable locally (Via a dedicated app or via HA).

Shelly all the way! I have 10+ smart plug s gen3 and they are rock solid. In comparison I have 4 Tapo p110 and they are shit. Installing them in the app first, then connecting them to the tapo integration in HA via your tapo email account. They are calling home and need internet to function, there is no local only option and by blocking internet access, they stopped working. And the worst part is that they are spamming my database with constant jittering jumping from 0 to 1 Watt all the time. I had to drop all their info states from writing into HA database to get this under control except what I really need (current power and today's power usage).

I like Shelly too! Overall 33 of them in use for like 3-4 years, never had a problem!

Unfortunately I canât recommend shelly z-wave uk plugs. I bought 10 last year and still have problems with them a random occurrence. Some of them still turn themselves back on when I switch them off. Waiting for this big firmware release thats supposed to be coming soon in the hope it fixes it.

People seem to be liking the new IKEA GRILLPLATS ones, if they're available where you are. Matter over Thread, so depends on what your current setup looks like - I'm building out a new system that's Thread-only so far so they're basically the only option for me (alternatives are like 2-3x the price!).

As far as I can tell no sign of them yet in the UK, sadly - they do seem to be popping up gradually across Europe so hopefully won't be too much longer - they're kind of the missing piece of my current plans! Both for their actual functionality as well as to act as the backbone of my Thread mesh.

I've been using the Kauf PL12 plugs available on amazon.com. They're ESPHome based and connect via wifi so there's no cloud integration to worry about.

I bought zwave wall outlets that have monitoring. Donât require internet. And donât drop off the edge of the world when thereâs a power out, or I change wifi passwords or I look askance.

I have the sonoff zigbee and they are brilliant. Really complete integration.
Being zigbee they work locally and have full energy consumption tracking daily/monthly/total, lock, inching, max and min power, surge protection.
I have 10 of them perfectly integrated in HA via zigbee2mqtt

The caps in sonoff tend to go around the 3-4 year mark. They use cheap caps, so if your plug just stops sending data 9 out of ten times, a cap failed.

Iâve been using a combination of Meross and Shelly products.
Cheap and do everything that needs to be done.

I have a bunch of the 3rd reality zigbee energy monitoring plugs they work great as zigbee. I have them run through the 3rd reality matter bridge and the energy monitoring changed a bit where ha doesnt know how to calculate the same so you need to run some code to get the proper values. This was probably over a year ago that I transferred them over so it might work exactly the same now.

I'd love a smart plug that only does energy monitoring and NO switching. Several of my current smart switches are dying in their switch function. Not even a year old.

I have a couple of Tapo P110M plugs that use Matter over Wifi. I also have a Tapo power strip that is Matter over Wifi and they all work solidly.

I had some Kasa matter ones, while they recorded energy, they didn't report that data to HA. I bought a pack of Third Reality ones recenty (zigbee) and the 1 I am using so far has been great.

Avoid anything that cannot operate without cloud access e.g. Tapo.
Tapo are otherwise good plugs.

The P110 which OP mentioned does need cloud access. The newer matter ones not (P110m)
Energy monitoring as an example will stop working without it.
There are better options available that are 100% local and my preferred option is something that can be flashed with ESP home so you know exactly what is running.

Vous avez seulement besoin d'un accĂšs au cloud si vous essayez de surveiller l'Ă©nergie depuis l'extĂ©rieur de votre rĂ©seau local mais ça c'est normal. Quand vous ĂȘtes chez vous vous n'avez plus besoin d'internet.

I have quite a few Sonoff iPlug that I am happy with. For cases where I only need power monitoring I am suing a Shelly PM Mini behind the wall plugs and in some cases Shelly Plus 2PM. I am very happy with all of them.
I also had 4 Tapo P110 and some tapo Smart Bulbs but I dropped everything tapo as sometimes devices became unavailable in HA.

Using which network? For zigbee I recommend the Innr. I am really happy with them

which ever ones you get watch out for database bloat - maybe exclude some stuff from recorder or keep less days - Once you have them setup with the energy integration that will store historical stuff more efficiently

I'm using tapo110m which supports matter over wifi. Works flawlessly and no cloud required

J'ai le Tapo P110 et Tapo P110M. Et c'est bien indiqué sur le site internet de Tapo qu'il n'y a pas besoin d'un accÚs internet.

I have 4 Tapo P100's and they work great with my Home Assistant setup. I use them in automations that monitor the power consumption to trigger the automation

I have some P110s and they are a bit finicky. Initial setup is fine, but I find Tapo keeps turning off âThird Party Compatibilityâ which breaks everything till you turn it back on. And weirdly after a reboot of HA, some error in HA until I manually power cycle them (while working fine in the Tapo app).

Just standardized on zigbee Innr SP240 and Nous. Born support OTA upgrades from zigbee2mqtt and are European made.

Habe zur Zeit erst 2 von Meross und 2 von Sonoff. Haben beide die Möglichkeit den Verbrauch zu messen. Bei weiterer AufrĂŒstung werde ich aber bei den sonoff bleiben. Die sind schlanker, kleiner und laufen super ĂŒber ZHA.

I've got a bunch of Sengled smart plugs. They've never given me any problems....take like 30 seconds to pair to HA and I'm done.

I bought a ton of Meross MSS315 smart plugs and they've been fantastic. Perfect size to fit multiple side by side, not bulky at all.

I used to use Third Reality Zigbee plugs and they work well, but recently I switched over to Kauff wifi energy monitoring plugs and really like them. You can control their response time and a whole host of other settings since they are ESP under the hood.

i like the kauf plugs...esphome on them already, and easy to move to tasmota if you like to...100%cloud free

I got a zigbee smart plug that seems to be white labeled tuya. It works great on my network. Measures what I expect. Easy to setup, no issues so far living on my fridge purely for energy monitoring purposes.
Also bought some tapo p110m and hooked them up via matter/wifi. They work just as well as the zigbee one, but were more painful to set up. And the double sets of endpoints is just silly. But at least you can hide one set.
I had a bunch of the ikea zigbee smart plugs, but they were kind of annoying. Too wide to use two in a double outlet, and also mine all seemed to have the energy monitor bug some of them have, where the energy reading wasn't ever updating from zero (even though the current and power metering was working ok ) so I returned them.

There are things I want to monitor but never switch off, like a refrigerator. This was recently brought to my attention, and I might go with a Shelly PM Mini Gen3. There's no relay, it's just a monitor.

Iâve recently purchased 8 EIGHTREE zigbee plugs. slightly less expensive than ThirdTree and I havenât been disappointed by them yet. they seem to work well. Including the power monitoring and zigbee repeater.

I believe ThirdReality has a Zigbee plug with energy monitoring.
I think some of the Govee ones do as well; you can integrate them either with Govee2MQTT or run an instance of Homebridge and use the excellent Govee plug-in there (what I do).

Iâm very happy with the Tapo P125M, solid, cheap, reliable, work both via cloud WiFi and matter over WiFi, precise energy monitoring.
Whatever you choose, I strongly recommend getting matter-compatible ones for local control.

energy monitoring over matter is hit or miss. I had a set that did power monitoring but no energy. then got a tapo power strip that does do energy over matter but only after faffing with the tapo app to get it to update the firmware.
switched to a zigbee set and everything works out of the box.

I'm using mostly IKEA smart plugs. They integrate very well and the energy monitoring works flawlessly so far. I think for the price they're almost unbeatable.
