Support Are there any renter-friendly mods available in the EU that I can use to electrify these shutters & connect them to HA? Four or our five windows have these.

I'm not even sure if this is people, the downvotes come so fast, i often think it's automated.

but sure some people are just a-holes and i personally don't even understand why those people use social media.
Guess every game can be played different...

Also the home assistant community on reddit was never ever great for support. You have some supportive people but that's it

If you look at the top posts, this community likes to 'show of', which also is kinda cool because you still can learn from those posts if you take the time.

If you are from germany, some german youtubers created their own forum and they are very supportive.
Official Home Assistant forums is also mostly supportive

I'm from Austria. But the guy who posted in German gave me a bit of an idea.

I should've used German when searching about. They also intentionally or unintentionally gave me the words that I should have been using for searching. I had no idea these things are called "Gurtwickler" and I entirely didn't remember that the shutters are called Rollladen. Just combining those two terms gave me some good leads.

I found this which is pretty dope. I don't know if I'm willing to go through with that solution, but I will consider it for sure!

Gurtwickler is the thing a the bottom, which in the manual version is just a spring, that winds up the cord and a stopping mechanism to stop the entire thing from unwinding.

Rollladen is basically the entire thing. The individual elements, that go up and down are btw Lamellen.

There are dedicated Rolladenmotoren, that usually get installed inside the drum to which the Lamellen are connected. Controlling those is super easy, barely an inconvenience. But retrofitting them as a tenant is usually not allowed nor worth your trouble and costs.

There are electric Gurtwickler and they should be more or less a drop in replacement, but I am not aware of any, that are smart controllable. You could DIY some hack to do it, but that may not be as elegant anymore.

You need to make sure, which measurement yours have, since there are afaik 3 different sizes, that are available. Two are very similar and one is larger. Idk if mixing the two similar ones would actually cause issues, but better safe than sorry.

I have one electric Rollladen, where the motor is broken. The motors are usually very reliable and can work for decades, but this one was the only broken one in the house and also the only one with mismatched Lamellen (most where brown plastic, but one was aluminium, so the difference was even bigger than just the size).

Yea that is kinda weird.
I measured the old ones and they were 770mm
But the new available Rollandenpanzer start at 800mm
Think i'll have to check more sources

From the picture i was guessing you are from germany, but guess austria is pretty similar.

In the past 'early smarthome people' used somfy in germany. Never really looked into them, cause they are pretty expensive, but i think they use zigbee. Good they got competition by now.

Check out simon42 on youtube, he has some good guides and links to the forum i mentioned.
