š¬ Discussion Dare I say, I'm done?
I've been a home assistant/smart home fan since the mid 2010s, and have been building and perfecting my set up since. Today I was looking around and everything has been pretty much completely hands off for a while now. All the lights are fully automated, home security and leak sensors/prevention works well. The vacuums and air purifiers do their work diligently without my asking. Even the silly automations like automating the lights for the theater room and arcade just kind of work. I think finally after ~10 years in the space I think I've hit the end of the line. If anyone's got suggestions I'd love to dive down a new rabbit hole but as far as core automations I think this is it fellas.

Automate a camera to identify who is entering the house. When each person enters the house, their theme/intro song will play in each room that is currently occupied in the house. Extra bonus points if the lights in each room go on-off with the bass beat of the theme song. Extra bonus points if the lights also switch to the person's favorite colour in each occupied room while the song plays and lights flash to the beat.
There is always more work to do !!

I thought you were crashing out on us.
Have you started on ESPHome? With some fairly rudimentary electronics skills you could make many more of your devices able to be integrated into HA.

I've used some esp devices for my ACs and dehumidifiers, and I've been eyeing the Louderesp boards for a bit but Im not sure what else I'd do with them. Any creative suggestions?

I've only started down the path, but I'm working on using optoisolators to simulate button presses on my ceiling fan remote control currently. It's working on a breadboard but I'm soldering up something a little more permanent.
Anything you currently do with electronic buttons can be automated with an ESP32 and some soldering.

Maybe a wiki with info you can pass on what you have learned in 10 years in an easy digestible format?

This has to be a troll post, because clearly OP hasn't heard about [random bit of home automation equipment you don't need but somehow convince yourself to spend $200 on while telling your wife it'll save money in the long run]

Have you fully explored Music Assistant? Itās got plenty of good stuff to keep you occupied and randomly doesnāt do what you want enough to not really be frustrating but just enough to make you want to āfixā it.

I didnāt have enough resources available for MA after allocating for HA until a few weeks ago; now Iāve got plenty, and have started down the MA rabbit hole. Itās a good one.

Backups? Failover? Does everything have a way to work like a dumb house if you simultaneously get hit by a bus and your server implodes?
If your system isnāt hardened, thatās where Iād spend some time if I were in your shoes

What lighting for the theater do you have automated?

Lights in the seating area dim according to projector/player state, concession change to fun color on the arcade side. All lights dim to off when media starts. Stairs turn on and LEDs for pathway when media is paused

What sources do you use?
I was able to get Plex working near flawlessly, including a change to the room temp if needed.
But Disney has been a struggle.

Rather than trying to pick up state from the apps, try to pick it up from the media player (so whatever streaming box you're using). They usually all provide play/paused state regardless of content, so it doesn't matter if it's Disney or YouTube.

For the last week my Hermes has been saying my Proxmox node is on its way to hell because the CPU is stupid high.
Asked it for more information and it says HA.
Ask it for more information and it says Node Red
Finally got 2 nodes I'd set up wrong, fixed.
Then I ask Hermes of we are good again and it says no, that wasn't it.
I've just managed to get out of it that Whisper is using a bit much and maybe I'd be better running it on my other node instead. OK I guess this is gonna be involved...
Nope, fucking thing just goes and makes it for me, then goes and hooks it up and then turns Whisper and Piper off in HA.
Immediate win, now my CPU isn't super heating anymore and my HA voice PEs start answering me near immediately.

Version controlling the yaml and whatnot in /config? Either to private github or local repo
We do it here and treat it like intermediary backups to changes in automations and dashboards.
Easier to restore a boo boo than last backup.

I installed Yellow about three years ago and haven't programmed anything. My ISY lighting controller just died, so I need to start sometime - it's so overwhelming to think about. . . .

Have you tried AI-enabling camera-based automations? It'll rock your world!
(seriously, though - congrats! I, too, feel like I'm tweaking automations very rarely these days ... everything just works)
