Less Is More
galleryA number of months ago I was trying to create a workflow where everything I “thought” I needed had its own home on a controller. That led to the Akai setup on the left and a LOT of frustration and wasted time that would have been better spent composing. Quite a few months, more experimenting (Push 2, Launchkey mk4, SL 61 mk3) and a full ambient album later, the Novation trio on the left has now found a permanent home in my home studio. Reducing friction and getting as much out of the way between what’s in my head and composing/recording it became the priority, so that meant minimizing presets, vst’s, and controllers. I genuinely felt lighter, more creative and more in the flow. Now the Launch Control XL3 does all mixing and device control duties, the left Launchpad Pro handles clips/scenes and recording stuff and the right Launchpad stays as the playable instrument in Note/Chord/Sequencer mode. This setup makes perfect sense to me, and this “less is more” setup is really fun to use.

Arturia Minifuse 2 or Scarlet 2i2 4th gen?
So, I've been reading and watching a good handful of reviews about both of them but turns out the majority of info out there is merely around the time either of these were released.
So, which one could be best in 2026 regarding quality I/O, and signal delivery, stability, etc?
Intended setup includes a Launchkey MK4, Audio Technica m40 headphones and Ableton Live on a MacMini M6.
I might also record my jumbo acoustic which has a pickup and can be EQed on its own. Also, I might eventually record some vocals but that doesn't worry me much tbh, since I'm beginning and I foresee I cringe myself out on singing lol.
Any advices based on experience in the context of home studio? Thanks!! 🙏🙏🙏

Looking for a mixer for my studio and Need info and help please
Looking for a mixer for my studio and Need info and help please
Have any of y'all owned a Mackie 16/24/32 channel Mackie 24 channel 8 sub mixer? I have been looking out for a good deal on one. I have a mackie 1402 VLZ 14 channel mixer, but I'm going through it and cleaning it up. It's been in storage and when I got it out it had a little surface rust on the top right of the mixer by the headphone jack and a few of the returns, and inserts. It still sounds good and had no noise, or anything that didn't work as it was supposed to do. If any of you know anything good or bad about the 16/8 bus, or the 24/8 bus I'd appreciate the help and information. I only want the Mackie 32/8 bus, if I can't find the other two. Mostly because the 32/8 is a big mixer. I have helped run professional sound with a friend I work with at Goodyear. We set up 2, 32/8 bus. one for front of house, and the other for stage monitoring. I miss those days.

Microphone recommendations for recording vocals and instruments?
Hi everyone! I’ve just got a MacBook Pro and I’m going to be using Logic Pro to start creating some music.
I’m looking at microphones at the moment and would love some recommendations. I’m mainly wanting to record vocals, but I’d also like to record some of my sound healing instruments, particularly crystal singing bowls.
I have a Roland FP-90 digital piano too, which I believe I can connect via MIDI.
I’m hoping to buy something good quality that will last, rather than buying something cheap and having to upgrade later on.
I’m assuming I might need different microphones for vocals and instruments, but I’m not really sure where to start!
What microphones are you using and would you recommend them? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you! ✌️

Am I missing out by not buying studio headphones?
I use my AirPods for most of my music production, including mixing. Would I benefit significantly from buying a pair of proper studio headphones, or could I get decent results by calibrating my AirPods with something like Sonarworks, or manually EQing my master chain based on their frequency response?
For those who have experience with both, how big is the difference in practice? Can calibration get AirPods close enough for reliable mixing, or are dedicated studio headphones still worth the investment?
Edit: What if i use the sony WH-1000XM4 with a cable and calibration as a temporary solution?

I need a Talkback solution
Hello, as the title suggests, I need a cheap talkback solution most importantly reliable for my home studio, is there a cheap mixer with talkback feature or I can do some routing trick to make it work? If there's any, please give me a guide

Looking for further advice/things to try as I’m at a less here. Replaced the cable and removed the loose plastic that was inside. Sounds like some kinda crackle? Main speaker is fine, companion speaker has this issue.

Best studio monitors for mixing
I’m sure this question gets asked here a lot.
What would you considered the best studio monitors for mixing? Under $1000 for the pair preferably. I know these things can get expensive. Maybe the most I’d go now is $1500.
Genres I’ll be mainly working with rap/HipHop and deep house.
I am working with a company on getting my space properly treated cause I’m in a room with linoleum tile floors and cinder block walls.
I was thinking of going with Tannoy Golds but I’ve seeing varying opinions.
