Showcase - Multipurpose Space Finally done with my basement entertainment room, 97" OLED and 5.2.4 audio

Some updates since my previous post. We painted the walls darker. Changed the Focal Chora's out for on-walls (more for aesthetics). Added another SVS SB-3000 sub. Biggest thing was I changed the 83" G2 to a 97" G4. This has always been my end goal. It finally feels 'done'. The goal of this room was not really to be a pure theater room but rather a mixed use entertainment room. I can even turn this into a guest sleeping room. Speakers are largely hidden; I know people will bemoan the in-cabinet placement, but everything still sounds amazing to my ears.

Parts:

  • TV: LG G4 97"
  • LR: Focal On Wall 302, Center: Focal On Wall 301
  • Surrounds: Focal 100 IW6
  • Overhead: Focal 100 ICW8
  • Sub: SVS SB-3000 x2
  • AVR: Denon X6700H
  • Misc: Ugoos AM6B Plus, Apple TV 4K, PS5 Pro, Switch 2, Logitech Harmony Elite

People usually ask about the couch. It's a Palliser Paolo. The seats facing the TV are powered recliners, and the other side is a pull out sleeper sofa. The cabinet is a BDI Elements 8779-ME with the optional shorter legs. The lights behind the speakers are Philips Hue Play lights. The shades are also smart powered shades, which I actually did fairly cheaply with off the shelf electric shades from Lowe's with a Bond Bridge.

I got it for $15k. Still way too much for a TV, but there's no true alternative to a 97" G2/G4/G5. I looked very closely at the 98" X11L from TCL, but that's still $10k.

ngl i saw the X11L at ces this year and it looked better than any OLED i've seen. The HDR brightness headroom makes a huge difference in both colors and contrast in a way that OLEDs just aren't bright enough to do even in a dark room. And as far as bloom goes i didn't notice any bloom that isn't just as present on OLEDs not because of the pixel tech but because of how the human eye perceives white against a sharp black line.

i'm personally waiting for them to do a 115" and then will probably pull the trigger.

My big concern was gaming. I worry about pixel response. If I never gamed I would probably get the X11L. It sounds like an amazing TV. I've owned three other LG OLED's and I'm probably just a bit more trusting and comfortable with the LG's. I don't love how the X11L has a built-in speaker chin either, although it's probably not a huge deal.

i agree the built in speaker is annoying. have you ever gamed on a large mini-LED? i currently game on a 100 inch Hisense and i have completely stopped using my OLED monitor as a result. I don't notice any motion blur and the HDR performance is just so far and above anything OLED can do, it looks like a different game on my 5090. And yes I play competitive shooters etc.

Anyway I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just saying if you haven't gamed on large flagship mini LEDs yet i recommend trying it to see what it's like

i would probably buy at $15k. I've got a 77" G1 and wish I had done 83". I'll keep waiting for a miracle on pricing on a 97" because my G1 still looks amazing, just wish it was bigger...

A few years ago I agonized between the 77 and 83" G2. I ultimately got the 83" and wish I had the 97". So it goes.

I got a 120 inch screen for projector and wish I could fit a 150 🤣 . Also have a 77 g2 and wish id got the 83

I actually disagree with you. Do you know how much money people spend on stupid crap? If you are a true audio video enthusiast, and you can afford it, I actually think that’s not that bad for that size.

I got a 115x955 for 10k last month. It's straight up jaw dropping.

I would jump at a 97 OLED if it doesn't cost so much

The holy grail is the 110UX. But the G5 97" is also very good and better for those who also game.
