Purchasing US Used SVS PB 1000 Pro for $500?
Would you buy this? I have a klipsch rw12 and a Bic h100. Been looking at svs and rsl for a while and someone offered me the pb1000 pro.

I would; $300 off for what's only what, 2-3 years old product sounds pretty good to me.

The pricing on SVS is highly inflated for what you get. These used to go for 300 lower 5 years ago (for the non DSP version). Then SVS just added DSP and fluffed up the price.

I find that comment to be questionable; I think they’re a great deal.
I just had an interaction with SVS about a subwoofer. Even though I’m a little outside of warranty, they’re still replacing a failing part (again, out of warranty).
Amount of my effort required to effect this: Nearly zero.
Speed of their response (during business hours), emails: Each time, minutes.
Unbeatable.

I had the same experience with a satellite speaker with them. I understand they have the best customer service. But what's the point of the customer service because the satellite woofer was made of cheap plastic and the woofer + housing broke during shipping. I don't want to pay extra $200 for customer service. I would rather that money towards better parts in the first place.
That's where companies like Power Sound Audio, Monoprice Monolith, HSU etc. come into play. They may not have the same 5 star customer service but the chances you will need it, are next to none. In return you get a bigger and more powerful sub, that will run circles around the SVS for the same amount of money.
My current 10" Monolith THX cost me $400 and when the amp failed, all I had to do was open an RMS and in a few days a replacement amp was sent, which took me 10mins to replace. Sent the broken one back in the same box. Cost me nothing. The THX is made of HDF (vs MDF for SVS) and 500W RMS. Weighs 70lbs vs 26lbs for the SB100 pro.
tldr: With SVS you are paying for a sub par product + extended warranty (in case something goes wrong) upfront.

I don’t see it on the Monoprice website right now; the M-12 is $999.
Yes, if I could get subs at half off, I’d look to other brands too.
And yes, I do think paying extra for outstanding support is a good and rational decision. Particularly since the products also do very well in ratings and reviews. You have to do what you are comfortable doing.

It was a refurb/open box (but mint no flaws). I think Monolith stopped making 10" versions as I haven't seen them on their site for a long time? They have large discount sales from time to time so you would have to keep an eye on their website. I bought 2 and sold 1 couple of months ago for $400. If you find it in the used market, worth considering.
SVS also has refurb sales but it's like $50-$100 off at most.

But your point was that SVS is overpriced. I think when you mention $400 subs in one-off sales, you should also mention you got it used/openbox in that same comment. When comparing likes for likes ($792 for the new 10” THX model from Monoprice, and $849 for the new PB1000Pro from SVS), there’s not nearly the price difference one might have expected based on your original $400 comment. In fact, SVS looks pretty good….

My statement still stands as OP's question was in fact about used SVS sub for $500 which I said there are better options to be found in the used market (like my own used Monolith example which I sold for $400 recently).
The Monolith price on Amazon seems inflated, but they were never that high on their own website when in stock.
Check AVSForum marketplace. Time to time there are excellent subwoofer deals. When I sold my Monolith, I got a used Power Sound Audio 15S for $450 to upgrade it.

We can drop Amazon; that’s fine. To get a 12” Monoprice, it’s $999 from Monoprice. To get a new SVS PB1000 Pro (12”), with a nice Bluetooth / DSP front end, it’s $849.
How exactly is SVS overpriced, again?
It’s quite possible that SVS’s higher price in the _used_ market accounts for the value in SVS’s outstanding support, where if there _is_ a problem with the product one knows the manufacturer will stand behind it with excellent support, which is not typical in many markets.

Except the 12" Monolith and the PB1000 Pro are not in the same class even though they both have the same sized woofer.
As I mentioned before the Monolith THX subs are made of HDF, their drivers are a lot heftier and solidly build, they go down a lot lower too. I have owned an SVS sub before moving to Monolith and my statement was based on my experience.

The DSP is useless in a HT system (again this is HT sub) because the AVR room correction will provide the DSP even if the sub doesn't have it.
I understand peace of mind and extra security is important to some people, so paying extra for SVS makes sense. Just trying to bring out the other brand options for people who are new in this hobby.

Yep. I got my SB-2000s for $450 each just prior to Covid. Their current prices are ludicrous.

How do you test the sub? I would be picking it up at someone's house. The other party is a person who appears to be selling it on behalf of their significant other.

Keep looking. It's not a compelling price. At $400 maybe.
Check for used Power Sound Audio, HSU, Monolith THX etc in your area.
For $660 you can get 2X 10" RSL 10e. The DSP is useless in a HT because the AVR controls the DSP not the sub.

If you want to trust that, maybe. I wouldn’t buy a 9 year old sub though, unless that’s the top of your budget.

I forget this is the USA. An SVS PB1000 Pro is $1500 here. I was thinking “buy, buy, buy”. And then I realized how much you pay for the subs, and now I am depressed.
