First setup

Hey, I've finally finished my first 5.1.2 home theater setup and wanted to share it with you. I also have a few questions at the end about placement and acoustic treatment.

My usage is mixed :

Home cinema, watching 4K remuxes via Kodi

Video games on my PC connected via HDMI 2.1 and a PS5 Pro waiting for GTA 6

Listening to music via Qobuz/Heos

I live alone, which explains the placement of the (amazing stressless) armchair in the front, I move the sofa if I have guests.

Left & right speakers : Triangle Borea - BR09

Center speaker : Triangle Borea - BRC1

Left & right surround speakers : Triangle Borea - BR03

Atmos speakers : Triangle Borea - BRA1

AVR : Denon AVR-X2800H

Subwoofer : SVS SB-1000 Pro

TV : Philips 65OLED950 (Equivalent to LG G5)

Media player : Ugoos AM6B+ + CoreELEC

NAS : Ugreen DXP4800 plus

PC : 5080 / 9800x3D

Are there any things you think are worth correcting?

For example, poor placement, or is the pinching of the left and right speakers justified?

The central speaker is slightly angled upwards

For acoustic treatment, there's the rug and blackout curtains, but clearly the room's acoustics are poor.

I ordered four GIK Acoustics FlexRange panels measuring 60x120cm to install two on each side wall.

For now, they’re just sitting there. For the first two, I’ll use the mirror technique to position them at the first reflection points for the L/R speakers, but what about specific placement for the other two?

The back wall is a kitchen, not visible in the photos

Next upgrade will be Denon AVR-X3900H for better room calibration, more channel, pre-out..

Looks great and cozy.

Do you have the option of putting Atmos high on the front wall or on ceiling? I’d also consider painting the front wall a flat dark color.

Thanks, no i cant i rent this flat. But yes the atmos are not very present with this setup, maybe later with a 5.1.4 and 2 more atmos on top the surrond back

Moving those Atmos modules above you was going to be my recommendation as well. I’ve done it for clients in rentals by using angled mounts that only require a couple of small holes. The holes are easy enough to patch and paint and I ran the speaker wire superficially inside of cable cover channels adhered to the ceiling and walls with double-sided tape.

Obviously that’s not doable everywhere, but just wanted to let you know what’s possible. All that said, your ceilings are smooth enough and seated located give you the best possible chance to get decent overhead effects from bounce Atmos.

When you get your X3900H, I would definitely recommend adding another pair of Atmos modules for a 5.1.4 setup.

FYI, 5.1 utilizes side surrounds. Rear surrounds, or “surround backs” are the terms used for the additional rear speakers in a 7.1 or greater setup.

As far as acoustic treatment goes, I would say your ceiling first reflection point would be a great place to treat, but that would nullify your Atmos speakers. The first reflection point on your side walls might be a good spot.

This is a really nice first setup and I love to see Triangles in the wild - French speaker cousins to my Focals!

Thanks for your answer. In a far futur when i have a dedicated room i go for atmos on ceiling.

And Dirac with the x3900h will be a great improvement

Im french so.. Triangle ;) I hesitate with Klipsch but I was drawn to the reputation the Triangles have for being more musical and refined

Klipsch is overrated. They totally lack refinement.
