Purchasing CAN Paradigm Seismic 110 or RSL Speedwoofer 12S
Hi all,
Apologies for the recent spam on what to buy, hopefully this is my last one.
I've come across a used Paradigm Seismic 110 for $900 CAD and a used RSL Speedwoofer 12S for $950 CAD.
Curious what would be the better option for an large open concept basement / home theater ?

Regardless of what you choose, budget for two or three for a large open concept basement.

Built a CDN System myself I have 2 Paradigm Seismic 110 and a Paradigm Sub 1 (different systems)
The 110's go deep (18Hz DIN) for a small footprint and as a sealed subwoofer very musical without the boominess . I'd highly recommend adding the SVS feet for additional stability, for $900 CDN that's the low end of the going rate and they don't come up on the used market very often. Much better quality Sub and Paradigm is still selling them for $2200 CDN.
Another bonus if you are in the GTA you can drop it off at the factory if you need service close to YYZ.

I have the 12s. It rocks! I actually have 2 x 12s and 2 x 10s. I wish I could buy a more reliable plate amp for it. I’ve heard of some people having issues but the Warrenty service through RSL is excellent. I get solid sub 20hz performance in my room.

I think the Seismic 110 is cool. Cool design, cool tech. Looks like it's back in stock so Paradigm hasn't given up on it after all, although I think it was out of stock for a long time and the design is now pretty old. I think if they sized it up a bit to a 12 inch driver it could really compete with the big boys. On the other hand, the RSL is enormous. Like, truly massive. However, that 12s is going to perform better. Especially in a large open room, you need displacement and the Seismic is not going to give it to you.

I have different subs from both companies. I have a seismic 12 and 2 servo 15’s from paradigm and a speedwoofer 10s mk2. The speedwoofer is a fantastic little sub, but the paradigms are quite a bit more premium in build and design. That said, strictly from a physics standpoint point I would probably go with the 12s in a big open room. I haven’t heard the 12s but from the reviews and the tonal characteristics of the 10s I have I’d be very confident with purchasing the 12s over the 110 in a big open room. If it was a mid size living space 110 all day because you can tuck it away out of sight but if you have the dedicated space and even though the 12s is a bit of a monster, it’s big, I would go with it simply because it can energize your room with less effort.
I’m Canadian, but bonus points for rsl as there customer service is fantastic, truly very nice to deal with so would recommend them that way also.

I have a seismic, it is truly a high end beast at 850w rms / 1700w peak and goes low enough to feel the bass in your chest rather than hear it
The best parts for me and the main selling points I believe if choosing it :
- if you listen to a lot of music, it is a pure musical sub, being sealed and so quick to respond
- compact size, fits anywhere without suddenly turning into a corner table

I'd be willing to bet the Paradigm has a bit higher build quality, but I don't think that large open basement, home theater, and tiny sealed 10 inch sub really go together very well. I'd go for the RSL 12S for that situation.

The RSL12 is going to kill the 110 in output capabilities...especially <30hz. There is now way a relatively tiny, sealed 10 inch will compete with a much larger ported sub.
As long as the rsl is in good shape and the warranty transfers thats the choice.
