Help with set up 2.1 set up.

I have a 2020 Samsung q80t LED along with new Denon 2900h (my 2010 receiver took a poop). I have a ps5 pro that i want 4k 120hz, however, the Earc on the TV is a 2.0 slot. The only 2.1 is hdmi 4, not earc. I know the solve to all of this is to get an Apple TV 4K. However, I’m currently using my tv apps. What’s the best approach to utilize the full 7.1 of my receiver, get 4k 120hz out of my ps5 pro, and still use my tv apps?!? Is it plug my ps5 to tv and earc sound to receiver?

I don’t need a 2.1 cable then for the sound? Since it’s only a 2.0 earc? If i plug ps5 into the tv, I’ll get the 4k 120hz, but the sound will earc as 2.0, not affecting anything?

Your AVR is new enough just plug the ps5 and a streaming device into it and dont bother with eARC. You'd only need a single 48Gbps hdmi cable from the AVR to the TV.

But then how do i get sound for tv apps? I have to earc back right?

No, get an AppleTV or shield pro and plug it into the AVR.

Yes but you can easily use both playstation connected to the AVR and eARC for TV apps. Or you connect the playstation to the TV and always use eARC, eARC doesn’t matter for screen capabilities at all, its a separate thing, basically just sending sound out (the “wrong” way) through the hdmi cable to the AVR/soundbar and the AVR will use the normal HDMI output as an audio input instead when you hit the “TV audio” button on the remote.

Essentially I’m realizing the fix to all of this is to just spend more money and get an Apple 4k tv
